About this property
Red-tail Round House@22 West Cabins 18miles from Walden, 80 miles from Steamboat
We are adjacent to Routt National Forest and the Zirkel Wilderness. Many species of wildlife call this home, moose, deer, elk, pronghorn, wolf, coyote, fox, raccoon, bobcat and many species of bird share this land so please keep your furry companions close.
The location is ideal for getting off the grid, enjoying nature and hiking, biking, xc ski or snowshoe on our Elk Run Trail. 4wd preferred travel in winter.Parking is approximately 200 feet below the cabin. The Red-tail is on a moraine at 9000 feet along the Park Range along the Rocky Mountains.Food can be warmed on the wood burning stove. Dutch oven, Blackstone grill & French Press provided. Solar powers the lights. Water is supplied. Compost potty attached. The Red-tail is a cozy, warm retreat. The space is a little over 200 round feet. Lots of windows! Watch the snow fall and the stars through the dome in the ceiling. The ceiling is a reciprocating roof. You will feel on top of the world with gorgeous views of the Medicine Bows to the east, the Park Range to the west and Rabbit Ears to the south. The wood burning stove will keep you warm and toasty, but does require stoking through cold nights. The shower house is a short walk away. The cabin can accommodate three if desired.Elk Run is a great trail onsite for hiking or xc skiing and snowshoe adventures as well as our Narnia Trail. The Routt National Forest and Mount Zirkel Wilderness is a short hike or ride. There are over 60 trails and 70 lakes in the Zirkel Wilderness. You will be within 200 feet of the cabin from where you park. Snowshoes and a sled come in handy as the snow gets deep. In the summer check out our trail dubbed "Narnia" which takes you to where two waterfalls merge on the Roaring Ditch which runs about the end of May until about the first week of July. The trail is marked with Monarch Butterflies. We offer sledding, skiing and snowshoeing in the winter on snowmobile packed trails. Buffalo Pass is a short distance away for those who love to ride their sleds in deep powder and in late summer ride over the Pass into Steamboat Springs.Deb, Eli and Pat are always available as the wildlife rehabilitation facility is near. If you need advise about a trail or fishing or about the wildlife just let us know. You step out of your door and you are "there". You will love the remoteness and the views. Wildlife abound. Moose, elk, deer, pronghorn, bear, fox, marmot, raccoon, squirrel and many species of bird from the hummingbirds of summer to the rosy finches of winter.Check for wildlife before letting your dog outside. We are 5th and 6th generation to this land. We are wildlife rehabilitators for the northern mountain region. 22 West enables us to support ourselves and care for injured and orphaned wildlife.
Why they chose this property
We built this cabin ourselves over a period of 7 months. Lots of heart and soul went into it's creation.
