Very secluded getaway

  • 5 of 5

We loved our time at "The Blackberry". This was the most secluded spot we've ever stayed. The view is indeed beautiful. The cabin is comfortable - very homelike. The drive is steep but the biggest challenge to us was the drive in along the hairpin turn road that led to the drive! We even got to see snow while we were there. We were a little nervous driving out, but the snow plow and salt truck had treated the road. We hope to return for some peace and quiet again soon!

A wild ride for a perfect view!!!

  • 5 of 5

We came up for a horse show at fence :) and your cabin brought us luck! While there we zip lined at the gorge ate at Newmans hiked little bradley falls ate at saluda grade and the purple onion! We made an awesome lasgna one nighty, the kitched performed well! The house was well stocked! The view was great for coffee in the morning and we left the horse show with a champion ribbon!

The drive way was intense one section of the road could be scraped and it would be smooth sailing!

Bring your own sheets/not for young children

  • 1 of 5

We rented the cabin four months in advance to enjoy our grandchildren the scenery and "trails". It had rained lightly on the day of our arrival. There were 17 switchbacks before even getting to the driveway -our Toyota Hylander hardly made it up the steep driveway- we were warned in previous reviews and we're prepared for that .It was an adventure and we were excited to have our family and children together to enjoy the mountains, picking apples and The Apple Festival . When we entered cabin we found that every photo on the website was not current. The entire length of the kitchen floor a 2 foot wide section was buckled ( we were told the day before we arrived about the buckling and that it was only " in front of the pantry" not the whole width of the kitchen. . Something was not right Every piece of furniture is different than the photos on the website- they were old and stained ( I have photos ). There were only three twin beds upstairs as opposed to the advertisement of having a queen (which the parents were going to sleep in) with the bunks for the grands... Then we found that the sheets on the beds had hair and dried skin still on them ! It was disgusting. When we called the owner and finally found he does not live nearby, he was very rude and told us to call his manager who finally called back and who said she too does not live nearby and told us she had never even been to the cabin. She told us to look for sheets in the closet (which we had already done,) they were the wrong size and they looked like they were 20 years old, stained and bleached . I have photos of everything I'm speaking of . We were then told that the housekeeper was going to deliver clean sheets The next day we cut our activity short to come back to meet her -she never showed up. We did not receive clean sheets. We did not even receive an apology. If you have young children you cannot let them play outside near the cabin by themselves. About 10 feet from the front porch is the cliff and about 30 feet behind the cabin is a cliff. The "trails", are about 75 feet long. It rained one evening and the house leaked in the kitchen and in the bathroom. As stated on the website there is no trash pick up so you have to drive around looking for a dumpster somewhere. Other renters we noticed had burned all their trash in the fire pit.If a couple of adults wanted to enjoy the porch this place - would be fine -with clean your clean sheets of course!

Very beautiful place

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place. The views are priceless. If you like somewhere, that you can just check out, and be away from everybody, this is the place for you. I will be going back soon.

We would not stay here again.

This property is in desperate need of repair. There is visible water damage around all of the exterior walls from the roof on down. The floor is buckled about 3 inches in the center such that you will stub your toe several times when walking through the he kitchen. When entering the home, there is a strong mildew smell through the house that could indicate dangerous mold. The power was out when we arrived from a recent storm (which is not something the owner had control over) but from patially melted ice in the sink, it was clear that the property managers knew about the power outage yet did not notify us ahead of time so that we could prepare. When we called the owner, he was less than helpful and even gave us a bit of an attitude. There are a lot of other properties to chose from in this area.

The view is breathtaking!

This place is a refuge for the weary. My husband and I just relaxed. Such enjoyable weather to get outside and walk through the woods. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
