About Ralph and Chris Coleman
Ralph and Chris were Mental Health Therapists for 35 years. Mountain Meadows Inn is a second career, in a related service-industry. We are now able to experience guests enjoying their vacations, in-between the life-challenges, that we all experience!!
Ralph and Chris Coleman purchased this Chateau / Country House in 2014
Why Ralph and Chris Coleman chose Ashford
Our son, a Realtor, suggested this Inn. He thought it would be an excellent second career (semi-retirement career)!! We have really enjoyed this whole process, of renovation, with our son, daughter-n-law and grandsons assistance. They have excellent ideas and provide us with lots of enjoyable time together. We also feel honored to be the "Owner/Caretakers" of this Inn and Chalet, for guests to enjoy throughout time. We are the third set of owners, to have an Inn here, since 1980...
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
This is an Historic Inn in this area, with a newer Chalet. The Suites all have their own private areas and bathrooms. Each Suite is spacious and yet comfortable/cozy. Our renovations have tried to retain the best of the older, with some of the best of the newer in supplies and colors. There are 10.7 acres. there are many areas for guests to enjoy...a huge park-like area, a wrap-around extensive porch, several Firepits for campfires, the Hottub, under the stars... There are also huge Red Cedars, W. HemlocKs and Douglas Firs. There are numerous wildflowers in the early summer. There is a stream, that runs through the property most of the year, as well as, a Cedar Grove, with a bench and area for meditation or relaxing... Come and enjoy!!

We had a very pleasant stay
We stayed in all 3 suites of the main building so basically had all of it for ourselves. There was coffee waiting for us every morning and the beds were made every day. The hot tub was a blast. On the last day there was a sweet surprise for us on the kitchen counter.
Peter and Guests-
We have so enjoyed our conversations with you, from the beginning. You seem like highly delightful people. We are so pleased, that you enjoyed the Inn, Park-like area and Mt. Rainier (so magical).
We also thank you, so much, for taking such excellent care of the Inn...
We hope you return someday.
Best wishes always, Ralph and Chris Coleman
Beautiful, historic Inn set in wooded area just 6 miles from entrance to Mt Rainer National Park!
We are in a party of 8, with two families. The Inn was a great place to “make camp” each evening after a long day of exploring the park. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The Blue Pearl suite had sleeping for all four pre-teen age kids and each adult couple had a private room in and bath. The property was lovely with a nice fire pit and hot tub. Housekeeping service provided fresh towels daIly. The owners were very sweet — they provided fixings for s’mores and a locally made berry pie. Highly recommend this wonderful propriety for location and comfort!
We're a family of 5 with three kids (10, 7.5, 7.5). My parents and sister traveled with us as well. Booking the whole Inn is definitely the way to go. Chris had items for s'mores and fruit set out for us upon arrival and the coffee was already prepped for the next day. After a long day of travel, this was so welcome!
We didn't stay long enough to relax on the front porch or out by the fire, but both areas were very inviting.
Being located only about 15 minutes from the national park southwest entrance allowed us to get into the park early and go back in the early evening to avoid midday crowds. I highly recommend arriving in Paradise before 8am during the busy summer season. We practically had the whole trail to Panorama Point and Pebble Creek to ourselves on the way up but passed so many groups heading to Camp Muir on the way down. Parking is also a zoo after about 10:30-11am.
Comet Falls was another fabulous trail not to be missed. We went after an early dinner at the Copper Creek Inn (also wonderful) and again had the whole trail to ourselves.
If we're ever able to get back to the area, I wouldn't hesitate to book this property again.
We are so pleased, that you seemed to enjoy yourselves, the Inn and the area. Mt. Rainier is truly magical.
Your information about going into the Park early in the morning, in the summer (and especially on weekends), is so accurate and excellent advice...also, the trails and sights you visited sound amazing.
We admire your family, greatly, for having the goal of seeing all 50 States, by the time your children graduate. What a gift to them...
Best wishes to you and your family...
My friends and I had a spectacular weekend at the inn. It was spacious, clean, and a great value. We loved the eclectic decor and amazing book collection. Ralph and Chris went the extra mile with lots of thoughtful touches including s'mores fixings and to-go coffee cups. They were also extremely responsive to our messages and inquiries. We loved the space and only wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you Ralph and Chris for providing this wonderful space for our mountain getaway!
We had such an amazing time! The place is absolutely beautiful. There was quite a bit of snow and a ton of land to go build snowmen and even sled! Ralph and Chris were so nice and even brought us stuff for s'mores! There is even a place to go shooting that is a walkable distance from the Inn. Overall, we had a ridiculously awesome time and I hope they'll have us again next year!!!!!
Mackenzie and her Guests were absolutely wonderful. It was so enjoyable seeing them truly enjoy the Inn and the outdoors area. We had some snow on the ground and they went sledding, in the backyard (even making a fun jump)...they also seemed to enjoy the campfire area and the Hottub. They helped with an amazing trail to the campfire area, that others have since enjoyed as well. They left the Inn in excellent condition. We so hope that the do return in the future. They are welcome anytime...
My friends and I had a great stay here! All the rooms have their own bathrooms which was super helpful. The owners do an excellent job with leaving snacks, coffee and notes everywhere to make things easy. It’s cozy and the perfect place for a summer or winter getaway. The only issue we had was that the hot tub jets didn’t work - there was warm water but there was an issue with the electrical connection. We reached out to the owners at the time and they fixed it later that night. If you plan to stay here, make sure to ask the owners about how to use the hot tub (it’s not in the manual). Otherwise we had a blast!
We so appreciated Priyanka and her Guests’ stay at the Inn. We are so pleased, that they seemed to have an excellent time. With the Hottub, it seems positive that Priyanka and her guests had been able to enjoy it over the several days. On their last night, they fortunately had been able to enjoy the Hottub, but the water went below the top of the jets (lowering about 4”), so the Hottub automatically shuts-off for safety. (We just hadn’t had this occur over the four years, so it wasn’t included in our manual, until now)...Due to the colder, winter temperatures, it did take several hours to have the Hottub resume all processes. Since it was our guests’ last night, we just couldn’t risk the Hottub going off again that night (due to the cold weather), for future guests as well. We wish Priyanka and her Guests the best always...
We are located in a park-like setting. The Historic Inn dates to 1910 and was the Superintendent's Home, for the largest Mill, west of the Mississippi, at that time. We have recently restored the original Douglas Fir floors and have renovated the Inn and the Chalet, right next door. Guests often enjoy the setting. We offer complimentary wood for campfires and there is a Hottub under the stars, for private-scheduling.
Then, as noted above, we are only 1/3 of a mile from the mountain Village of Ashford, where the Whittaker family is a famous climbing family. They have several shops here. People from all-over-the-world come to this area, so it makes it lively with many different languages spoken, cultures shared and cross-information exchanged about all the hikes and sights in the area.
We are also only 6 miles, from the Nisqually entrance to the Park, which is the main entrance. Then, once inside the Park, in 6 miles is Longmire, with a Museum, Information Center, numerous hikes, a gift shop/store, and a restaurant, year-around. Then, in 12 more miles is Paradise and the saying is "on a sunny and/or nice day, always go to Paradise first and work your way back". Paradise just has many hikes as well. Guests love the Skyline Hike. It is only 4.5 miles long, but gains and losses altitude several times, so it is recommended to have some spare time for rest stops. Then, there are the Reflection Lakes, by Paradise, which have an easier hike around them. When it is not windy and fairly clear, a person can see a great reflection of Mt. Rainier in the Lake. It is the most photographed area in the Park. There are also several waterfalls, between Longmire and Paradise, the Christine Falls, the Narada Falls and the Comet Falls.
Please come and join us and we know you will have an excellent time in the area and at the Inn or Chalet!!
