We Have Center, Front Row Seats To Makaha Surf Break, In A Private Setting.
Our home is directly in front of the Makaha Surf break. Sit on the lanai and watch the expert local surfers slide down waves. Go out and get into it. On low tides, you can walk access the reef to Makaha State Park. Makaha is a world class surf break in the winter, home to the Buffalo Big Board Surfing Classic Contest February 13, 14, 15, 20 & 21. Come get a front row seat. Or watch the surfers carrying torches, paddle out to enjoy the first wave of the new year on Jan 28, 2017, celebrating the Chinese New Year. Fireworks are also a great New Year's tradition in Hawaii. The Chinese brought them to the islands many years ago. They can be enjoyed on many places around the island.
It is also famous for snorkeling and diving in the summer. Avoid the tour boats and swim out from the beach yourself.
Our home is private and serene. There is a lock box on the front door for guests who arrive early or late in the day. It also allows freedom to spend more time in the ocean without having to worry about carrying or losing the key.
The town of Makaha is rustic and one of the only true local settings left on the island.
The Westside of Oahu provides miles of undisturbed coast line and beaches. Our family likes to drive North to Yokohama Bay to ride boogie boards down the large sloping sand hills into the water. There you can also hike to Ka'ena State Park. It is a natural preserve where you can usually find Monk Seals.
Our house is 10 miles away from Ko'olina that has excellent cuisine, 4 swimming lagoons with nets for keeping out wildlife if you'd prefer. Next door is Kapolei that is has all the amenities you could desire. Wet and Wild Water Park, Costco, Target, great restaurants, movie theater and library to name to a few.
You'll love the local flavor in Makaha. It's rustic and unique

My family has grown up visiting Makaha every year for 15 years. We're at home here. We finally decided to buy a house. Now we want to share it with you. The photos were taken by us over the years. Mostly we spend time in the water. Keith is a surfer and makes surfboards. I make jewelry from the resin that drips off the fiberglass in random piles all over the yard and sell it on Etsy - Upcycled Surf Gems
Judy purchased this House in 2015
Why Judy chose Mākaha
We live near Sunset Cliffs on Point Loma, which is pretty much the end of the road in San Diego, CA. Makaha has that same feeling, end of the road, spacious. Though both places are filling more and more with visitors, you can still find solitude and quiet. This house is amazing because it has unobstructed panoramas. It incredible that we could own such a place with a view. We have to share it.
What makes this House unique
Our family has many years of experience visiting other people's vacation rentals in Makaha. We spend our time in San Diego on and around the beach. We know what a family needs and would like to share our boogie boards, fins, chairs, googles, extra beach towels, with you. If you can draw yourself away from the lanai, you are welcome to borrow our things.

This very comfortable home is situated right on the ocean next to the white sands of Makaha Beach. We loved watching the surfers and the sunsets with our cocktails on the front lanai. The house was well equiped with most everything you need for the beach: snorkel gear, water socks, umbrella, beach chairs and towels. The kitchen was also well stocked with condiments and spices. The air conditioners worked very well although we did not use them much as we preferred the fans. My favorite aspect of this home is that we could walk to Makaha Beach and lay in the sand while watching the surfers. West Oahu has beautiful beaches, with clear water and is probably the sunniest side of the island. I definetly would love to stay here again.
Our time in Hawaii was awesome. We enjoyed all there is to do on Oahu, the beach, Pearl Harbor, Luau
The home was great. It had everything we needed. The ocean views from the patio were the best. We were very pleased with home and it’s location.
Great house for relaxing and beautiful Ossian
Location, ,hospitality, cleanness, it was perfect vacation we had !!!!!! We enjoyed a lot Thank you so much !!!!!!! We will be back again !!!!!
Our 10-day stay at this absolutely perfect home was one of the best vacations our family has experienced! The kitchen is totally stocked with everything you need. The home was spotlessly clean when we arrived and so comfortably furnished. Being raised in Makaha, Lia and I became instant friends as she grew up there as well - we even knew some of the same people even though there is a 15 year difference in our ages. Lia was extremely helpful, efficient, and a joy to chat with. The view from the lanai is exactly what I grew up with and really was a blessing for all of us - falling asleep to the soothing sound of the waves again was such a treat! Our reason for being in Makaha was to place my sister's ashes in her beloved Pacific ocean about a block away in front of the house we grew up in. That rather sad task was made so much easier for all of us because of the peace and comfort of this lovely home. Thank you Judy and Lia! ~ Marylee Harris
Surf Hale Paradise
Our family of seven ranging in age from 21 to 81 could not have had a better vacation than the one we had in Judy’s home at Surf Hale Makaha. The property is beautiful, the home is comfortable and convenient, the environment is breathtaking and the property manager Li’a is a wonderful person who is a great help. We were tempted to spend the entire vacation at the house but there are many must see attractions on Oahu so careful planning is worth the effort. Pearl Harbor, North Shores, Paradise Cove, Dole Plantation, and Manoa Falls Trail are some of the best places we have ever visited. Last but certainly, not least, you will never find a nicer person than Judy to work with before, during and after your vacation.
Beautiful home with an amazing view but a few disappointing factors.
Pros: The ocean is the first thing you see when you wake up in the morning and the last thing you see at night. The home is located away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu/Waikiki. The people of Waianae are very welcoming and friendly. Lia is very nice and helpful.
Cons: The reason for us choosing this home is because it was advertised as having a private stairway to the beach with a gate to close to keep our 5yr old from going to the water on his own but still allowing our two oldest to explore the reef in front of the house while still in view. However this is not the case. When trying to use the stairwell we were told that the condos next door actually own the stairwell and they have blocked it off from the use of this home. We had to walk down the driveway, and down the street to the beach. This doesn't seem like too much but when you are taking 3 kids to the beach by yourself, with 3 chairs, 3 boogie boards, 3 sets of snorkel gear, sand toys, and water to keep hydrated, on hot pavement, it is a little annoying. The worst part was EVERY time we did venture to the beach, we had to walk the children through day camps of locals blairing offensive music and smoking marijuana. It's hard to come up with something on the spot when the children asked what the smell was and where are the skunks.
Also, the home has off street parking which is a nice feature but it is a HUGE pain to try to get in and out, and park a large SUV. The home directly in front of this one, most of the time had 4-6 vehicles in the driveway to navigate around and into the designated parking spot. Thankfully our rental car had a back up camera because many times we had to back out of the parking spot, out of the driveway and directly onto the highway. We had to use one of us as a spotter at one point because the neighbors left 3 inches between our driving path and their car. We also had a couple near misses backing out onto the highway because a minivan was always parked on the street blocking the view of the Hwy.
We had random people walking through the home's backyard, 5 ft from us to jump off the retaining wall and get to the water. Invasive.
Sadly we spent our last morning in Hawaii watching gardeners mow the lawn and trim the weeds at 8:30am, from inside with all the doors & windows shut (highly allergic to cut grass) instead of enjoying our last bit of paradise eating breakfast on the lanai. That should've been scheduled for after we left at 11am. Disappointing.
