About the property

We Have Center, Front Row Seats To Makaha Surf Break, In A Private Setting.

Our home is directly in front of the Makaha Surf break. Sit on the lanai and watch the expert local surfers slide down waves. Go out and get into it. On low tides, you can walk access the reef to Makaha State Park. Makaha is a world class surf break in the winter, home to the Buffalo Big Board Surfing Classic Contest February 13, 14, 15, 20 & 21. Come get a front row seat. Or watch the surfers carrying torches, paddle out to enjoy the first wave of the new year on Jan 28, 2017, celebrating the Chinese New Year. Fireworks are also a great New Year's tradition in Hawaii. The Chinese brought them to the islands many years ago. They can be enjoyed on many places around the island.

It is also famous for snorkeling and diving in the summer. Avoid the tour boats and swim out from the beach yourself.

Our home is private and serene. There is a lock box on the front door for guests who arrive early or late in the day. It also allows freedom to spend more time in the ocean without having to worry about carrying or losing the key.

The town of Makaha is rustic and one of the only true local settings left on the island.

The Westside of Oahu provides miles of undisturbed coast line and beaches. Our family likes to drive North to Yokohama Bay to ride boogie boards down the large sloping sand hills into the water. There you can also hike to Ka'ena State Park. It is a natural preserve where you can usually find Monk Seals.

Our house is 10 miles away from Ko'olina that has excellent cuisine, 4 swimming lagoons with nets for keeping out wildlife if you'd prefer. Next door is Kapolei that is has all the amenities you could desire. Wet and Wild Water Park, Costco, Target, great restaurants, movie theater and library to name to a few.

You'll love the local flavor in Makaha. It's rustic and uniqueo

About Judy

My family has grown up visiting Makaha every year for 15 years. We're at home here. We finally decided to buy a house. Now we want to share it with you. The photos were taken by us over the years. Mostly we spend time in the water. Keith is a surfer and makes surfboards. I make jewelry from the resin that drips off the fiberglass in random piles all over the yard and sell it on Etsy - Upcycled Surf Gems

Judy purchased this house in 2015

Why Judy chose Mākaha

We live near Sunset Cliffs on Point Loma, which is pretty much the end of the road in San Diego, CA. Makaha has that same feeling, end of the road, spacious. Though both places are filling more and more with visitors, you can still find solitude and quiet.

This house is amazing because it has unobstructed panoramas. It incredible that we could own such a place with a view. We have to share it.

What makes this house unique

Our family has many years of experience visiting other people's vacation rentals in Makaha. We spend our time in San Diego on and around the beach. We know what a family needs and would like to share our boogie boards, fins, chairs, googles, extra beach towels, with you. If you can draw yourself away from the lanai, you are welcome to borrow our things.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We loved having Luis and his team stay at our house. He took care of it as if it were his own. He let me know what was going on. I appreciate the care. He treated the house like family, the Hawaiian way. Thank you. We'd love to have you anytime.

An ocean retreat

  • 4 of 5

Location is the best word for this house situated right at the waters edge away from the crowds of tourists. Bliss to wake up each morning and watch the locals surfing the giant waves - then watch the setting sun every night while you're still relaxing on the patio- a great way to enjoy a holiday.

Snorkelling with the turtles a few metres off shore and then further up the road with the dolphins just adds to the beauty of this rather isolated spot. The house has first class kitchen equipment, well outfitted with linen and comfortable beds.

If you want to be a tourist- then stay somewhere else, as travelling through 30 local traffic lights is not a pleasant drive to reach the freeway leading to the sights of Oahu- it takes most of the day to explore further afield.

This place is for enjoying the love of the ocean

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind words. You fell in love with it as well. It's an amazing place to settle into. Hope you had an opportunity to see the whale spouts off the lanai as well! Aloha

Great stay, great view, good price

  • 4 of 5

One thing I’d start with regarding this part of Oahu, we traveled all over the island over the course of two weeks, at least to practically every beach area and by far this was the best overall beach for fewest crowds and deep, nice beaches.

The house is nice, Li’a stays on the upper level and you have the whole lower level, including walkout patio overlooking the ocean. Sun rises to your left and sets to your right every day. The property is not the Ritz, but a nice normal home. Kitchen was well equipped even with non perishables. Large quantity of towels for bath and beach on hand.

I rate all properties based on a global scale so my 4 Star would be anyone else’s 5 Star probably.

In short, wed stay here again in a heartbeat for the price. It’s the perfect balance of location, nice facilities, and cost.

Thanks again to Judy and Li’a

Excellent location, beautiful home, perfect trip!

  • 5 of 5

What a gorgeous spot! And the view is nothing short of amazing. Clean home with all the necessities provided. Nice grill out back and a great kitchen. Remarkable snorkeling right in front of the home with one of the best beaches we’ve seen right down the way, (3 minute walk). Lia, on site management upstairs, was very friendly and took care of us. Would highly recommend and we can’t wait to return! Thanks for the wonderful trip!

Beautiful oceanfront home!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved staying in this beautiful house! For us, it immediately felt like home away from home. We loved the magnificent oceanview and watching the local surfers catch some waves right in front of the house. The house is nicely decorated, very clean and very well equipped. As we were travelling with young children, we were even provided with a high chair, a Pack&Play and some toys! Always a big plus ;)

A great place to unwind, away from the busy tourist areas (but not too far to go and visit them!) and relax while enjoying the sound of the waves. A little piece of paradise!

Would definitely recommend, the pictures don't do justice to this lovely property.

Makaha Gem

  • 5 of 5

This very comfortable home is situated right on the ocean next to the white sands of Makaha Beach. We loved watching the surfers and the sunsets with our cocktails on the front lanai. The house was well equiped with most everything you need for the beach: snorkel gear, water socks, umbrella, beach chairs and towels. The kitchen was also well stocked with condiments and spices. The air conditioners worked very well although we did not use them much as we preferred the fans. My favorite aspect of this home is that we could walk to Makaha Beach and lay in the sand while watching the surfers. West Oahu has beautiful beaches, with clear water and is probably the sunniest side of the island. I definetly would love to stay here again.
