House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)
Are you coming for vacation? Or are you going to be here for work? Either way this house is ideal. It is located in a prime Santa Monica location just six blocks from the beach.
The home is a short distance to both the Third Street Promenade and Main Street where you will find amazing shops, restaurants, and weekend farmer’s markets not to mention some over-the-top people watching. For more people watching and sidewalk entertainment Venice Boardwalk and the Santa Monica Pier are also close by. Being close to the beach, you will be able to enjoy great surfing, biking, sailing, and incredible sunsets. If you are here for work, there is a major freeway a short distance away. From there you will be able to get to downtown Los Angeles in just 25 minutes (traffic permitting of course).
The house is a charming, 1920’s, California Bungalow with a sun porch that looks out on the fenced in front yard. But if you do not want to merely look out on the yard, you can enjoy dinner at the outside dining table. Or you can get some work done with the help of the wireless Internet access. When you enter the house you will walk through the sun porch into a relaxing living room. Not only is it a great place to relax, watch TV or read a book but it also has a convertible sofa for additional sleeping. Each bedroom has a queen-size bed and plenty of closet space. The kitchen has all of the necessities including a microwave, dishwasher, and plenty of dinnerware. And for eating inside there is a cozy dining room just off the kitchen. For added convenience a brand new washer and dryer were just installed. And (VERY exciting) we have just remodeled the 2nd bathroom and spruced up the kitchen with new floors and paint! So now there are TWO full baths.
There are two off street parking spaces.
This house is on the same property as VRBO# 88630. The houses are totally separate so you can be as connected or independent as you like. It's a perfect arrangement if you have a big group coming for a wedding or graduation. The two houses combined can accommodate 8-10 people.
**Please be aware that this is a NON SMOKING property. Smoking is not allowed in the house or on the property at any time. I take this very seriously.

Wonderful Home Away From Home
We spent ten days at this charming bungalow in Santa Monica. The property is well located, really well equipped, two bedrooms (queen size beds) and two bathrooms, true to the pictures. Deirdre was very accommodating when our flight was delayed resulting in us arriving closer to midnight, which was so appreciated. Starbucks around the corner, Gelsons and Whole Foods very close by and for those who are avid walkers, the beach is not that far. There is a window air conditioner which cooled the house down at night when the days had been very hot and humidity high (thank-you for that). Lovely new washer and dryer a definite plus. We had a rental car and the property includes off street parking. The owner was very responsive and lovely to deal with. All and all a great place to stay. Would not hesitate to stay here if we returned to the area. Wifi was excellent, TV works great, and it was nice to have a home to come back to after a day away sightseeing etc.. Beds were comfortable.
Really enjoyed driving up the coast to Santa Barbara and had dinner at a lovely restaurant overlooking the ocean in Malibu (Geoffrey's). Not far from the property was a good restaurant (casual) called Brick and Mortar. For those not familiar with the LA area brace yourself for the traffic. Have never seen anything like it, but in the end we drove everywhere. Allow ++ time to drop a rental car off at the airport.
Clean, Great Location, All the Comforts of Home
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. The house was clean and well equipped. The location is great and close to everything. The owner met us at the property on our arrival and explained everything we needed to know. Additionally, she was very helpful with local info and helped us with recommendations throughout our stay. I would recommend this property and would stay here again.
Perfect Family Getaway
We came down from San Francisco to LA to visit family for a few days. We had our 11-year old son with us.
The house is almost 100 years old and has tons of charm (claw foot tub in one bathroom). The details in each room were charming and thoughtful with each room painted in different colors with comfortable furniture. The house, kitchen and bathrooms were clean. The house had everything we needed - blankets, laundry, lots of towels, fast wifi, dishes, pots, pans, hair dryer and coffee maker (most important!).
The house is private but still close to the beach and restaurants. We walked to the beach playgrounds and the Santa Monica Pier every day, which was fun for our child. We were able to park easily due to the parking spot. There were great restaurants on Main Street (a block away). Dog Town Coffee is a must. We even ventured a little further away to get sandwiches at Bay Cities (per a friend's recommendation).
Important to us - the house and neighborhood were quiet at night and we were able to get good sleep. .
The location really worked for us. We went to a hip Venice Beach restaurant one night and drove twice a day to our relatives in Pacific Palisades (13 minutes!).
The owner introduced herself to us and was helpful with restaurant recommendations and ideas for us to do with our kid - thank you for that.
We had a car with us. But, we needed to take Ubers a couple of times, and there were many drivers available to us close by. So, that was a nice unexpected perk.
We will be renting this house again!
Convienent Location - Walkable Neighborhood
We stayed in this two bed-room cottage during Christmas time while visiting our adult children who live in the area. We found it suitable for making family memories: game night at the big dining room table, family dinners, reading in the bright sitting room, and a nice-sized kitchen where three or four adults could work on dinner prep together. We appreciated the two bedrooms and two full-shower bathrooms which allowed us to quickly prep for a night out or daytime museum visit.
The residential neighborhood is walkable and felt safe. We walked to the beach, Shutters Hotel, the local Starbucks , and Walgreens. We rented bikes for the day and rode The Strand. We were close to Santa Monica restaurants and the Third Street Promenade for Christmas shopping. We used Uber for all our outings. The only issue we had with the cottage was the loss of WiFi and TV service, but our host tried her best to remedy the situation. If you want to be in the heart of Santa Monica- this cottage would be a good option for you.
Charming and comfortable house!
This house is so comfortable and well decorated. It is unusual to have a vacation rental with so much charm. It is incredibly well decorated and appealing. The sunroom is delightful. The location is incredible - a 10 minute walk to the beach and the beautiful winter sunsets. The owner did everything she could to make sure we were comfortable. I love this spot and highly recommend it.
Benefits: good location - easy walk to: the beach, Main Street (for great coffee at Dogtown), Santa Monica and Venice. The house was clean upon our arrival. The kitchen is a good size, well equipped with all appliances in good working order and a good size kitchen table. A SMART TV - good reception etc. Off-street parking.
Drawbacks - unfortunately we thought these outweighed the benefits. The house is very small, very old and in need of repair and refurbishment. One bedroom has the MOST uncomfortable bed - like sleeping on a marshmallow - and the room is so small you can barely walk around to the other side of the bed. Lighting is so dim we needed a flashlight in the evening. The other bedroom had a makeshift closet behind a curtain which was falling down. The shelving was falling apart. Everything was old and worn out - the towels, sheets, blankets. Erratic hot water in the (very old) shower. We have stayed in several other rented places and the furnishings and state of this house was the most disappointing.
We never met the owner and correspondence with her was erratic. A week after requesting a plumber to fix the flushing mechanism in the second bathroom - there was no plumber. The week we stayed did cross over Thanksgiving but we were told the plumber would be there on Monday and by the time we left the following Sunday there was still no plumber (or perhaps he came but did not fix the problem - no communication so we would not know). We never found the book to explain about the house (e.g. when to take out the garbage etc. ).
We have tried to give a balanced view - there are some positives but more negatives in our opinion.
I was very surprised and disappointed to receive this review. The truth is the house is very old… almost 100 years to be exact. But that’s part of the charm in renting a California Bungalow. They also tend to be smaller but that’s why I put the square footage (1,000 sf) on the listing. At no time have I ever been misleading about its size.
The bedrooms are exactly as they appear in the pictures. There is not room to dance around but they are roomy enough to move comfortably. Re dimness: each bedroom has a ceiling light and a lamp on each side of the bed. I checked and all were in working order. The bed in this room does have a memory foam topper. It is softer than a traditional mattress but it gets many compliments. I guess it’s just a matter of personal taste.
The closet in the second bedroom is not “make shift”. It's a large closet with plenty of room to hang clothes and shelves for storage. There is a curtain instead of a door but we chose that because we like the look. I’m not sure where the “falling apart” shelving was. I checked in every room (including the kitchen and living room) and found all shelves to be sturdy. New towels, blankets and sheets are purchased often. We donate all used linens to the local homeless shelter on a regular basis.
The only reason I can figure that the hot water was “erratic” would be if multiple people were taking showers at the same time and/ or the dishwasher or washing machine were on as well.
I did not meet Fran and her family while they were here. I was unable to meet them during their stay due to their late arrival time and my being sick with the flu. I sent instructions how to get in. (This is actually quite common.) I did get a text from Fran on Friday or Saturday that one of the toilets was not working. The first appointment I could get for the plumber was Monday morning and informed her of that. It’s a plumber I use frequently and told them to call me if there was no one there to let them in. I never got a call from the plumber and no other correspondence from Fran that it hadn’t been fixed. I assumed that everything was taken care of. That was my mistake. I should have followed up.
There is a booklet but it is not critical to your stay. I gave instructions about garbage in the move-in email.
