Why Betsy Barrymore Stoll chose Cabo Pulmo
Cabo pulmo is one of baja’s best kept beach vacation secrets. And baja paradise’s villa & casa del mar and el nido are the “pearl in the oyster” of the gem known as cabo pulmo. Now that you’ve found us, we hope you’ll join us for the best beach vacation you’ve ever had and experience a wonderful holiday “off the beaten track” that we know you won’t soon forget. Our motto is, “if we don’t provide it, then you don’t really need it!” we have been baja converts since the late-60’s. Villa & casa del mar and el nido are the culmination of our many years of visiting baja, first by car camping and tenting, then by truck camper and small rv, camping by private aircraft and sleeping under the wing of the airplane, then to the old-style palapa beach “house” that used to be the way it was in cabo pulmo, and finally to a large fifth-wheel rv after our palapa house burned down in 1991. Building villa & casa del mar in 1994 and 1995 and el nido in 2000 are the realization of our years-long dream of having real homes at the beach in baja california sur, mexico. To off-set the expense of building and outfitting our little piece of paradise, we decided to offer villa & casa del mar and el nido for luxury guest vacation rentals. Betsy, who is a retired whitewater river outfitter, used her years of taking guests into the wilderness to equip our homes with all the best toys. We have tried to think of every amenity we and our guests might want and have provided them all. While the houses are built from local materials, most everything else has been purchased in the usa, imported to Mexico and shipped or carted down the baja peninsula. In addition to the large items that were shipped by commercial truck, we have made dozens of 4,000 mile round-trip driving trips with a loaded trailer from idaho and southern California to outfit villa & casa del mar, and el nido. Villa & casa del mar and el nido are wonderful & fully turn-key homes.

Loved Casa Del Mar and area
We visited Cabo Pulmo the end of February and stayed at Casa Del Mar. We absolutely loved the area. It was very off the track and quiet. There were lovely restaurants walking distance away. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. At Casa Del Mar you could pay extra for air conditioning but it was cooler in the evenings so never needed it. The VRBO was very clean and had all the amenities that we needed. We knew that there was snorkeling gear there but was weary about standard so brought our own. That was unnecessary. The quality of the gear was excellent. We did all of our grocery shopping before we got there. There were a little staples you could buy there. The beach at the place was a little rocky, but you just needed to walk a short while for beautiful sand. If you like quiet and solitude on the beach then this is perfect for you. There was plenty of free snorkeling around the area. The only thing I would do differently next time is to rent an SUV. The roads at the end of the drive are a little rough. But the little car we had managed them. I will definitely be back.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review about CASA DEL MAR @ BAJA PARADISE and Cabo Pulmo. We love hearing about your stay and we know that future guests appreciate knowing about your experience. Our full time staff works hard to keep our villas in top condition and constantly update and replace our complimentary beach and ocean equipment. Indeed, Cabo Pulmo is a very special place and snorkeling and scuba diving is outstanding, with the only living coral reefs in Western North America in Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park. We look forward to your next visit to BAJA PARADISE and Cabo Pulmo.
A Perfect Place in a Fascinating Area
Casa del Mar was just right for our needs. It was clean, cozy and well located just steps from the beach and from good restaurants.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay with us in CASA DEL MAR. We're delighted you enjoyed CASA DEL MAR and Cabo Pulmo. And thanks for choosing one of our three BAJA PARADISE villas for your beach holiday!
Lovely except the diesel noise and smell
Lovely place, small bed (double seems small these days), main living room and front patio are inches from the main boat launch area with continuous stream of diesel tractors pulling boats in/out of the sea, noisy/stinky. Beach in front is boat trailer parking area. Cold north wind. Still we loved our visit. Hiking is magical!
Tom, Thanks so much for posting a review for CASA DEL MAR. We're delighted you enjoyed Cabo Pulmo. CASA DEL MAR is a one-bedroom home with a queen bed in its private bedroom, plus a queen-size futon sofa in the living room. The beach assess roadway on the south side of CASA DEL MAR is owned by the scuba outfitter using the roadway, so we have no control on how frequently they launch dive boats, nor whether they decide to park a boat trailer on the side of the roadway. I wish you had not experienced the diesel tractor for their launches. They usually launch boats with a truck which is unobtrusive. Thank you for choosing BAJA PARADISE for your 3-day beach holiday. Betsy
Casa del Mar
We had a very relaxing time in Cabo Pulmo. We enjoyed Casa del Mar very much. We had just about everything we needed. The only thing we didn't really like was the tractor fumes that blew in when the boats were being launched in the morning and when they returned in the afternoon. This is not the problem of Casa del Mar, but the groups launching the boats (who were very adept at this procedure compared to the other dive groups down the beach). Housekeeping only came 3 of the 7 days. I think they were intimidated if we were in the casita. We didn't need the air conditioning because the fans overhead were sufficient. We drove (15 minutes) to Los Arbolitos beach 3 times during our 7 days because it was so gorgeous. We hiked to Mermaid beach once from there also. Loved that we could walk to get our meals or cook in our casita. All in all, a great stay. Might go for El Nido next time or even Villa del Mar.
A Great Stay!
We were a little disappointed with the outside terrace at Casa del Mar which didn’t get much sun at this time of year. Betsy very kindly upgraded us to El Nido which is a lovely property, spacious, comfortable and well equipped. There is lots of outside space and the upstairs terrace has wonderful 360 degree views and gets the sun all day. Good for bird watching too!
You are just a few steps to the beach one way and a few steps to restaurants and local shops the other. If you are planning to cook for yourself, make sure you bring your fresh produce with you, although you can find all the basics such as bread, tortillas, canned goods and even wine, water, sodas and beer at the local shop.
Cabo Pulmo is a great location and an excellent base for tours. We went on a fantastic whale watching and snorkelling trip with Memo’s Tours and saw lots of humpback whales. All the roads around Cabo Pulmo are tracks- we managed OK with a saloon, but those of you planning more extensive trips might want to consider a 4x4. We would strongly recommend Betsy’s properties for a comfortable and relaxing stay.
Steps to the sea
We enjoyed our 2 night stay so much, we stayed for a 3rd night. While the accommodations are somewhat rustic, it was clean and the bed was super comfortable. 2 Hammocks on the porch provided the ultimate relaxation! The kitchen was well equipped and we cooked breakfast and lunch and found 3 different restaurants, all within a short 5 min. walk, to provide great food and drink at reasonable prices. We will be back!!
