Beautiful mountain and lake views from this secluded cabin! Serenity Hill Cabin sits high upon a 1.92 acre lot, offering breathtaking views of English Mountain and the main channel of Douglas Lake.
The cabin is tastefully decorated with a plethora of Thomas Kincaid prints adorning the walls. The large game room in the loft has air hockey, foosball, electronic darts and a commercial grade arcade game with 40+ games...including Ms. Pacman and Galaga. The large wrap-around deck has lake and/or mountain views from three sides.
The Master bedroom has a plush, king-size bed, along with a 32" flat-screen HDTV...and a Jacuzzi! Plus, there's a 4-person hot tub on the deck right outside the bedroom door...which also has a great view of the lake.
The loft bedroom also has a king-size bed and a 42" flat screen plasma TV. It ALSO has a great view of the lake.
The living and dining areas have full-view glass doors. On nice days, you may find yourself having a hard time concentrating on the 37" HDTV in the living room, with it's Blu-Ray video player and video library. But on cloudy, rainy days, the video library and/or game room comes in pretty handy! (Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, the game room has a 32" HDTV and also PlayStation 3 with 2 controllers and a few games, although you may want to bring some of your favorites!)
The kitchen has all the cookware and utensils you will need to cook gourmet meals, and 12 Pfaltzgraff place settings. It has a side by side refrigerator/freezer and microwave above the electric stove/oven. There is also an automatic dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, blender, crock pot...well, pretty much everything you will need. There is also a full size front-loading washer and dryer just around the corner of the kitchen if you don't want to bring a ton of clothes.
Now, you won't find granite counter tops and expensive furniture (although it is good quality). You also won't find expensive antiques or anything you have to worry about breaking your pocket book in case something gets broken. (We haven't kept more than $1000 total of damage deposit in over 12 years of operation. Look at our listing number - 79360. We've been renting this cabin LONG before HomeAway bought VRBO...(back when VRBO actually meant Vacation Rental BY Owner!) But that's not what you're looking for, is it? Wouldn't you rather have a cabin you can live in comfortably while enjoying the peace, quiet and beautiful views? That's really what a vacation is all about, isn't it? I suppose if the cabin was clustered in a group of other cabins 10 feet apart from each other with no views to speak of, you might want top-of-the-line everything. But given a choice, I would take the beautiful views and relaxing, comfortable living any time! (But maybe that's just me...I don't know ;-)
Now, we DID have to compromise when we decided to build on this site. We could have built the cabin closer to the water. That would have made for easier lake access. (FYI, getting to the dock from the cabin is like a walk in the park...but getting back up to the cabin is a workout! It's about an 80-yard hike with an increase in elevation of 100 feet. There are a couple of evenly spaced benches along the way to rest your legs and catch your breath if you need to. And since we are in full disclosure mode here - we do have well water and it does smell like sulfur from time to time. We have spent a lot of money over the years to come up with a solution, and even though we shock - and test - the well twice a year, and have a water softener designed to handle sulfur and a whole house filtration system, we still experience a sulfur smell from time to time when the faucets are first opened. So even though the water has always tested safe to drink, you may want to bring some bottled water with you.)
We have plenty of seating inside and outside with a table on the screened-in porch, along with a Weber gas grill and plenty of propane. There are also a couple of porch swings, one on the screened-in porch and another on the south deck, where you can see both the mountains and the lake.
There are two marinas within 5 miles of the cabin where you can launch your boat or rent a boat or pontoon. (There is plenty of room at the cabin for your trailer and a tow vehicle or two.) There are also other marinas on the lake where you can rent ski boats, canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, paddle boats, tubes, etc. We'll provide you with links and phone numbers to these places in a separate email, along with information on cabin access, local churches, restaurants, attractions, etc.
If you're looking for action, take the back road into the heart of Sevierville (20 miles), the back door into Dollywood (28 miles) or the scenic route to light #3 in Gatlinburg (38 miles). Or, jump on I-40 (5 miles) and you can be in Asheville in a little over an hour.
You might just want to stay at the cabin and relax...a lot of our guests do. Even if they do get out, they like to make it back in time to watch the sunset over the lake. That's also a good time to spot some white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, a red fox or two, and maybe even a bald eagle. If that's what you want to do, make sure you stop at Super Wal-Mart or Food Lion on the way in (10 miles) and grab some stuff for the gas grill.
No matter what you like to do, Serenity Hill Cabin has a lot more to offer than just a comfortable stay, terrific views, and exciting things to see and do. It also offers peace and serenity. Isn’t that really what a vacation is all about?
LAKE LEVEL POLICY: Douglas Lake is a Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) regulated reservoir. Water levels in the reservoir fluctuate an average of 41' over the course of a year. The TVA tries to maintain a summer pool of 990' - 994' above sea level from June 1st - August 31st, although that may not always be possible - especially during periods of severe drought. The dock at Serenity Hill Cabin is fixed at 985'. (Dock is usually floating from the 1st week of May until about the 3rd week of August.) Therefore, docking a boat at the cabin dock is not an option when the water level falls below 985'. Serenity Hill Cabin will not be held liable for any damage to any vessel, nor will Serenity Hill Cabin be held liable for docking fees or expenses incurred under these conditions.

About Greg Goodwin
Hi, We're Greg & Belinda. We live in northern Indiana, about 10 miles from the southern tip of Lake Michigan. We've lived here all our lives, but yearn for the day when we can retire to our lakefront cabin in the Smokies. In the meantime, we'll be renting it out to nice folks like you, so that you can enjoy it, too! (You’ve only got a few years left to enjoy it, so you might want to book soon!…and often! ;-) We searched many years for the perfect place to call home, and it was quite an experience! We are empty-nesters at the moment (ya never know when one might come back home!), and spend almost all of our vacation time working at the cabin. It's a labor of love, so we don't mind at all. We do it to ensure our guests have a wonderful time during THEIR vacations. (It’s funny, because every time we shop, we find ourselves saying, “That would look GREAT in the cabin.” So we buy stuff for the cabin and our home in Indiana gets the cabin hand-me-downs. But that’s OK, because it’s all good quality stuff.) Anyway, now that you kind of know who we are and what we live for, we hope you’ll visit the cabin and see what we’re so excited about. The views alone are worth the trip!
Greg Goodwin purchased this Cabin in 2002

Enjoyed the time.
Very well maintained property. Very quiet. Owner should let those renting property about all the turns to get to cabin. The outside grill did not work. Overall very nice and enjoyed the time.
Oh no! I wish you would have told me, Patrick! I talked to you on the phone and you texted a couple of times, but you never mentioned the grill not working. That Weber gas grill is less than 6 months old! Since your departure, we've have 2 other families spend 15 nights at the cabin and nobody has mentioned the grill not working. Hmm?...(maybe they haven't tried using it? ;-) I'll have my housekeeper check it out after current guests leave this Thursday. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
And yes, you are right. There are many twists and turns through the woods and around coves the last 2 miles to the cabin. (Our motorcycle guests say it's like the Tail of the Dragon...only shorter ;-) You do have to drive a little slower (30 mph) and it takes about 6 minutes to go that last 2 miles. And don't let your spouse or children bury their heads in their smart phones during this stretch if they are prone to car sickness! Lol.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Patrick. I think I mention the last 2 miles of the drive on our personal website somewhere, but I'm not sure. (Links are not allowed here, so people here never actually see our website until they have already booked.) In any case, it allows me to mention the drive here on VRBO. So thank you for allowing me to make this "public service announcement"! Lol.
Thanks again for your business, Patrick! You were great guests and we would love to have you back! (And I promise I will fix the grill in a timely fashion next time if you tell me that it's broke ;-)
This cabin was very clean and accommodating. It was a wonderful place to relax & enjoy our vacation.
We had a wonderful experience at this cabin and plan on returning in the future. It had some welcoming snacks and cold water from the refrigerator upon arrival, anything you could possibly need in the kitchen, an amazing (and spotless) jacuzzi in the master bedroom which also had a step in shower, a loft area with fun games...lots of movies and books to choose from too, another bedroom equivalent to a master bedroom with a bathtub/shower, and a wrap around porch with breathtaking views. The dock is perfect for fishing, swimming, or docking a boat. We were there off season, so the water was down...but our family thoroughly enjoyed exploring the rocks and shoreline, fishing, and driving our remote control cars down the hill and over the exposed lake bottom. We look forward to taking our boat during the summer season sometime.
The landscaping was beautiful and decorative, with plenty of places to sit a relax. The decorations both in and out of the cabin were simple, thoughtful, inspirational, and fun.
Our family of four had more than enough room... and truly can't wait to go back.
Thank you so much for the kind words! We are so glad you had a good time and look forward to you bringing your boat and the family enjoying the dock (which is currently floating by the way ;-) with all the leaves on the trees and everything being in full bloom!
Thanks again Ron & Jamie!
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is inviting, comfortable, and clean. I can’t say enough about the gorgeous views of the lake. We’ve stayed in several cabins, but this home is special. We hope to have the opportunity to stay there again in the future!
Thanks so much for the kind comment, Jean! You and your husband were excellent guests and we'd love to have you back ANY time!
Just what the doctor ordered!
Picturesque, quiet, and with all the comforts of home - and more. This charming log cabin with a private dock on the lake was a wonderful setting for a two couple vacation. Our son brought his sailing dinghy which was perfect for the lake with it's consistent breezes, and we brought a small inflatable to putter around only a small portion of the numerous and glorious coves. Needless to say, the time flew, but fortunately the memories are here to stay!
The most amazing property!
My husband and I spent several days in this cabin. Location is perfect...stunning views, peaceful and quiet, yet close enough to PF/Gatlinburg. The property is spotless clean, stocked with all the basics, and then some. Kitchen is very well stocked for cooking. We enjoyed our meals on the screened in porch, which was sooo nice! I've stayed in many cabins in the area and this one is my favorite! The owners pay such specific attention to detail to ensure you have a relaxing and convenient stay. So thoughtful.
We take a road trip with friends every year and found your cabin in our search for this year's trip. Your cabin is just beautiful, as are the views. We had a great time. The kitchen is well stocked with supplies. The instructions are easy and helpful. :) Had lots of fun with the games and hiking around the area. Will have to make a trip in warmer weather to try out the hot tub, but we did enjoy steaks on the grill. It is just the right distance from many attractions to make it easy to choose what to do yet not be caught up in the traffic of the heavy tourist area. We hope to come back again. (We especially enjoy reading the info and your website--your sense of humor is fabulous!)
