Beautiful mountain and lake views from this secluded cabin! Serenity Hill Cabin sits high upon a 1.92 acre lot, offering breathtaking views of English Mountain and the main channel of Douglas Lake.
The cabin is tastefully decorated with a plethora of Thomas Kincaid prints adorning the walls. The large game room in the loft has air hockey, foosball, electronic darts and a commercial grade arcade game with 40+ games...including Ms. Pacman and Galaga. The large wrap-around deck has lake and/or mountain views from three sides.
The Master bedroom has a plush, king-size bed, along with a 32" flat-screen HDTV...and a Jacuzzi! Plus, there's a 4-person hot tub on the deck right outside the bedroom door...which also has a great view of the lake.
The loft bedroom also has a king-size bed and a 42" flat screen plasma TV. It ALSO has a great view of the lake.
The living and dining areas have full-view glass doors. On nice days, you may find yourself having a hard time concentrating on the 37" HDTV in the living room, with it's Blu-Ray video player and video library. But on cloudy, rainy days, the video library and/or game room comes in pretty handy! (Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, the game room has a 32" HDTV and also PlayStation 3 with 2 controllers and a few games, although you may want to bring some of your favorites!)
The kitchen has all the cookware and utensils you will need to cook gourmet meals, and 12 Pfaltzgraff place settings. It has a side by side refrigerator/freezer and microwave above the electric stove/oven. There is also an automatic dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, blender, crock pot...well, pretty much everything you will need. There is also a full size front-loading washer and dryer just around the corner of the kitchen if you don't want to bring a ton of clothes.
Now, you won't find granite counter tops and expensive furniture (although it is good quality). You also won't find expensive antiques or anything you have to worry about breaking your pocket book in case something gets broken. (We haven't kept more than $1000 total of damage deposit in over 12 years of operation. Look at our listing number - 79360. We've been renting this cabin LONG before HomeAway bought VRBO...(back when VRBO actually meant Vacation Rental BY Owner!) But that's not what you're looking for, is it? Wouldn't you rather have a cabin you can live in comfortably while enjoying the peace, quiet and beautiful views? That's really what a vacation is all about, isn't it? I suppose if the cabin was clustered in a group of other cabins 10 feet apart from each other with no views to speak of, you might want top-of-the-line everything. But given a choice, I would take the beautiful views and relaxing, comfortable living any time! (But maybe that's just me...I don't know ;-)
Now, we DID have to compromise when we decided to build on this site. We could have built the cabin closer to the water. That would have made for easier lake access. (FYI, getting to the dock from the cabin is like a walk in the park...but getting back up to the cabin is a workout! It's about an 80-yard hike with an increase in elevation of 100 feet. There are a couple of evenly spaced benches along the way to rest your legs and catch your breath if you need to. And since we are in full disclosure mode here - we do have well water and it does smell like sulfur from time to time. We have spent a lot of money over the years to come up with a solution, and even though we shock - and test - the well twice a year, and have a water softener designed to handle sulfur and a whole house filtration system, we still experience a sulfur smell from time to time when the faucets are first opened. So even though the water has always tested safe to drink, you may want to bring some bottled water with you.)
We have plenty of seating inside and outside with a table on the screened-in porch, along with a Weber gas grill and plenty of propane. There are also a couple of porch swings, one on the screened-in porch and another on the south deck, where you can see both the mountains and the lake.
There are two marinas within 5 miles of the cabin where you can launch your boat or rent a boat or pontoon. (There is plenty of room at the cabin for your trailer and a tow vehicle or two.) There are also other marinas on the lake where you can rent ski boats, canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, paddle boats, tubes, etc. We'll provide you with links and phone numbers to these places in a separate email, along with information on cabin access, local churches, restaurants, attractions, etc.
If you're looking for action, take the back road into the heart of Sevierville (20 miles), the back door into Dollywood (28 miles) or the scenic route to light #3 in Gatlinburg (38 miles). Or, jump on I-40 (5 miles) and you can be in Asheville in a little over an hour.
You might just want to stay at the cabin and relax...a lot of our guests do. Even if they do get out, they like to make it back in time to watch the sunset over the lake. That's also a good time to spot some white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, a red fox or two, and maybe even a bald eagle. If that's what you want to do, make sure you stop at Super Wal-Mart or Food Lion on the way in (10 miles) and grab some stuff for the gas grill.
No matter what you like to do, Serenity Hill Cabin has a lot more to offer than just a comfortable stay, terrific views, and exciting things to see and do. It also offers peace and serenity. Isn’t that really what a vacation is all about?
LAKE LEVEL POLICY: Douglas Lake is a Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) regulated reservoir. Water levels in the reservoir fluctuate an average of 41' over the course of a year. The TVA tries to maintain a summer pool of 990' - 994' above sea level from June 1st - August 31st, although that may not always be possible - especially during periods of severe drought. The dock at Serenity Hill Cabin is fixed at 985'. (Dock is usually floating from the 1st week of May until about the 3rd week of August.) Therefore, docking a boat at the cabin dock is not an option when the water level falls below 985'. Serenity Hill Cabin will not be held liable for any damage to any vessel, nor will Serenity Hill Cabin be held liable for docking fees or expenses incurred under these conditions.
