A real treat
This holiday was intended to be a special treat for an upcoming “special” birthday, and it didn’t disappoint.
It is located in a beautiful area of Derbyshire with a good choice of walks right from the doorstep as well as further afield.
The property itself is very comfortable and surprisingly spacious. Of course the icing on the cake is the wonderful private swimming pool with spa area. It was so lovely to be able to have a swim and a soak after a nice walk. Or have a quick dip at breakfast.
I would thoroughly recommend Thorpe Could View. The friendly owners Ray and Julie are on hand if needed but are not in anyway intrusive.
Thanks for you kind review. We are so pleased you had a great holiday and enjoyed many walks straight from the cottage. Glad the Sudbury Childers museum allowed you to see how it was for us as children :-) we hope to see you again in the future
Beautiful place, well equipped, tasteful decor and comfortable. Great hosts. Enjoyed pool and jacuzzi. Would highly recommend.
Thank you Elaine and Marcel for your kind review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and were able to extend it. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Lovely short break in a beautiful part of the country.
Cottage is very well maintained and the ‘pool’ is just the icing on the cake
Thanks for your review and we are so pleased you had a great holiday and enjoyed the cottage and the new pool. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Really lovely place
Really enjoyed our stay. Cottage was really clean, warm and cosy had everything you need. Pool and Jacuzzi fantastic! Location stunning! Ray was very helpful and friendly.
Thanks for your kind review. We are so pleased you had a great holiday and we look forward to welcoming you again.
Amazing property... we just booked at the wrong time
The cottage is absolutely beautiful. Location, decor, ambience... gorgeous. Cannot fault it. You certainly do get to be at "home away". We packed everything from kitchen roll to detoll, which wasn't required as the cottage provides it. Certainly exceeds expectations on the things you want when away from home.
We stayed over New Years 2019/20 but the cottage was due for some refurb (in the pool area). We weren't informed about this and there was some conflict about access etc but was resolved by the owners. Still think this could have been better managed though, seeing as we paid £500 for 2 nights.
The contact during our stay was (in my opinion) excessive... the owners were away so maybe they needed to keep in contact more as the house next door is also their home? Felt almost like being watched... by the neighbour, cameras and numerous messages about process, departure etc. Haven't encountered this before, altho this may be normal practice on HomeAway.
The 9.30am checkout is very early and needs to be better advertised. I may have missed it on the listing but was quite surprised when told we needed to be out by 9.30am. When we left, there were workmen there waiting to do work. Doesn't really make the end of a break very... satisfying.
The owners were super helpful though and have been very fair. It's just a shame as we were looking to book again in October- but won't be doing so now.
Overall, the cottage and location is fab. The pool is being refurbed (which was needed) so anyone staying here in future will have a lovely time.

There are many country pubs that offer a friendly atmosphere and reasonably priced food, or high quality restaurants at nearby hotels or within 3 miles at Ashbourne. Ashbourne offers a choice of supermarkets, high street & local bespoke shops, banks and many ladies boutiques. There are a number of Antiques shops in Ashbourne. The pub in the village now named The Old Dog has been fantastically renovated and is great for a drink something to eat, approx. 1/3 mile to walk UP the road.
Shrovetide is an annual event each February which sees Ashbourne closed to traffic & shops boarded up for 2 days whilst the local townsfolk "Upards" take on the "Downards" in a "football" match through the streets with goal posts some 3 miles apart. A spectacle to behold!!
