The picturesque village of Langton Matravers is located approximately 3 miles from historic Corfe Castle and 1.5 miles from the seaside town and beaches of Swanage. This is known as the gateway to the Jurassic coast - popular not only for fossil hunting, but also for coastal and cliff top walks with stunning scenery and views you'll remember for a lifetime.

The vast, sandy beaches and dunes of Studland Bay are about 5 miles away, and food lovers can sample fine dining at the well-known 'Pig On The Beach'. Excellent seafood is on offer at 'Shell Bay' restaurant, whilst a short ferry ride away lies the world renowned Sandbanks, home of the rich and famous. There, you can sample delights such as Rick Steins Sandbanks restaurant, activities like windsurfing and paddle boarding sessions, and of course, legendary Dorset hospitality! From Sandbanks, it's possible to get a boat ride over to Brownsea Island, the National Trusts' gem within Poole Harbour, the second largest natural harbour in the world (Sydney being the largest). On the island, you'll feel like you've escaped from the rat race, as you discover a wealth of unspoilt nature, including red squirrels and deer, woodlands, stunning harbour vistas and all the history that goes alongside this wonderful oasis of tranquility.

Langton Matravers has easy access to country and clifftop walks - taking you to destinations including: Durlston Country Park, Dancing Ledge, Seacombe, Winspit, with its famous caves.
Also nearby, is Worth Matravers, where you'll find an 18th century pub, The Square and Compass - built in 1776, it's complete with its own fossil museum and yearly pumpkin festival, as well as serving traditional real, English ales, straight from the barrel. The pub, with its incredibly far-reaching, panoramic sea views has been voted one of the best 5 pubs in Britain! A family friendly spot that's well worth a visit.
Langton Matravers offers a local shop/ deli/ bakery within the Kings Arms pub, the pub is also great for food with a lovely garden. The church and Putlake Adventure Farm is just a few minutes which younger visitors are sure to enjoy.
All are within easy walking distance from the cottage.

If you love beaches, then Swanage has a lot to offer in this department with its 'Blue Flag' rating, along with a characterful, friendly, town centre. The beach is life-guarded during seasonally busy periods, and has traditional entertainment such as Punch and Judy shows on the beach, fishing and boat trips as well as fish and chips aplenty!
In addition to its fabulous beaches and seaside atmosphere, at the end of July and into the beginning of August, Swanage also boasts its major annual carnival; the largest in the South. Access to the town is easy by car, bus, or even by foot, being only about 2 miles away.
All in all, the immediate area has lots to offer - and further afield, the likes of The Tank Museum and Monkey World are within about 30 minutes drive, near Wool.

Great place

Fantastic location, lovely apartment. Easy to find, everything exactly as listed. Location was perfect for what we wanted, apartment was clean and airy with everything we needed for our stay. Parking was easy to use, with a map on the wall just incase.

Incredible Snug

What a delightful stay at the property. It was just enough for my close family and I to enjoy a break away in the beautiful village near Swanage. We took a lovely walk along the Spyway literally opposite the property to the Dancing Ledge and spent many a night at the local play park up the road to burn off some of the children's energy. The property was well equipped and had everything we needed. The host was responsive and really helpful throughout the process of booking and staying. Lovely experience, thank you. X

Short stay in Dorset

The flat was very clean, well equipped and nicely furnished. Even though it lies on a main road the noise from traffic wasn’t an issue. The weather was very kind and we were able to visit all the places we had planned. Plenty of access to good walks from the village. Nice pub, friendly people. The host was very responsive to texts. The only issue was there is no shop in the village. So make sure you take provisions with you for when you arrive otherwise you will have to drive down the road to Swanage to stock up. The parking space is quite snug if you have a large car.

Thankyou for your lovely review. There is a small shop at Putlake Adventure farm in the village that stocks local produce. For a larger shop you will need to drive to Swanage to the coop or budgens. The parking bay can be snug but my 7 seater Citroen Picasso fits ok.. there are 2 visitor parking bays also that can be used for short periods if in and out often. Glad you had a lovely time though so much to see and do on the Jurassic coast.

Good location with plenty of walks

Overall it’s a great flat, in a location surrounded by plenty of walks eg dancing ledge and more on the south west coast path. We communicated with the owner as there was slight confusion over amenities and we also had to let them know the cafitere exploded too. On the amenities list it had hot tub when on arrival there was no hot tub, although on investigation this seemed to be a glitch/problem with Vrbo, rather than the host to be fair to them. The listing has since been updated.

We were four friends on a trip from the United States. We loved absolutely everything about this cottage. The location was quiet, yet convenient to everything in the area. It was away from the hustle and bustle of the beach crowd in Swanage, and gave a country feel. Very convenient to Corfe Castle. Everything about the cottage was as described. The beds were comfortable, and the quality of the linens and towels were excellent. Everything was clean and tidy, and parking right next to the cottage was perfect. The neighbors were friendly and greeted us whenever they saw us in a friendly manner. We had a car, but this place is very accessible and right on a bus route, which would be very convenient as it is just up the road from Swanage. We even managed to catch a concert of local musicians at the town hall one minute walk down the road. You can tell when a rental is just a business and when it is truly loved by a family. This is a loved rental. They have thought of everything to make your stay convenient. The furniture is very comfortable. There was an excellent selection of up-to-date books for adults and children, games, and movies to watch in case of a rainy day. We very much appreciated a few condiments in the kitchen and a dishwasher to use. There was a large drying rack , and the washing machine worked very well. We couldn’t have had a more pleasant stay in this beautiful, quiet, and pleasant cottage.

A good place for a short break

The bed was one of the most comfortable ever in the lovely big bedroom. Well equipped kitchen. Nice living room. Third bedroom, if used, not easily negotiable with step and ceiling issues. Would stay there again.

Thankyou I’m glad you found the bed comfortable and enjoyed the apartments well equipped kitchen and living room. We’ve never had any issues regarding the third bedroom as mainly children sleep in the 2 nd and third bedrooms. We do place a sign stating mind the step as you enter the room as the cottage is in the roof this room has a scaled ceiling. Fab weather for the folk festival and a busy Swanage to end a lovely summer.

Lovely place to stay in Langton Matravers

We had a fantastic holiday in Langton Matravers, staying in The Cottage. Well equipped, with a dishwasher and a washing machine. The host, Nicky was very quick to sort out two broken light bulbs. A great place to stay. Lots to do in the area, walks, beaches, pubs. Highly recommended and will be back.

Good enough

Easy to find but first surprise was a reminder on our 'welcome' email that bath towels were NOT included. No WiFi, no means of safely opening kitchen skylight and poor TV reception (occasional picture break-up). The accommodation is all upstairs with only the one entrance/exit - could be tricky to exit safely in event of fire. There was a nasty drain smell in the bathroom/washing machine area.

This was quite upsetting to read .... The welcome email on the website explains very clearly check in details, key safe number, check in times and a reminder about linen and towels etc. Just a polite detailed email explaining where to park giving post codes etc and hopefully helping you make the journey and the start to your holiday a pleasant one.. No WiFi is stated again on the website .. along with NO towels provided .. ( we never have had a problem before) !! When you book a property it is a really good idea to look at what the property has to offer as well as reading the previous reviews.. ( which are all very good 5 *) The smell was unfortunate and could have been easily resolved if you had contacted me and made me aware immediately of the problem. The roof window in the kitchen is approximately 12 feet up and even with a pole is incredibly difficult to open safely, this is why a pole is not provided. Due to the amazing weather (25-30 degrees) the atmospheric conditions clearly effected the signal of the TV which I apologise about but this was out of my control I’m afraid.. I’ve yet to stay in a first apartment with more than 1 entrance unless it has a roof garden. Fortunately living close by we are always able to address any concerns that may arise and have always kept our holiday guests very happy but communication is vital.

Communication was great, check in easy. I have stayed at quite a few places in Dorset but this place stands out, exceptionally clean and felt like a home. Great for transport and also nice walks, i would definatley stay there again
