Good rental, great management!

  • 5 of 5

We were down for a family emergency. Last minute same day booking kind of emergency. The HomeAway app wouldn't let me book for the same day, but after speaking with the property manager, she was able to adjust the stay to include the same day, and within a few hours we were in the home. There was a problem with the sleeper sofa, to which they are fixing, however we needed the sleeping space, they discounted our stay and we were able to just throw the mattress in the floor, and kids were happy.

Not a deal breaker, but some things to keep in mind- there is only one toilet and it's in the master. It is on the second floor with only stair access, (and no baby gate to my knowledge, not a problem for us we had bigger kids). There is no dishwasher, and the bathroom(s) isn't as stocked as some other places we have stayed. But again, not a deal breaker. It was perfect for what we needed and management was great to work with. I'm very thankful for the quick responses, and their working to get us in on such short notice.

Nice spot with a couple issues.

  • 3 of 5

I would suggest reading all of the previous reviews, especially with regards to the bathroom situation. The home is located in a nice neighborhood, quiet and well located. The beds are comfortable and it has a nice kitchen and it was pretty clean. I would have brought a can opener and some pot holders but I guess I would have assumed they would have provided those items by now based on past reviews. I always rent through vrbo based on having a kitchen as I like to cook meals. A can opener, some pot holders and maybe a baking dish would be nice additions and fairly cheap to provide. The rest of the supplies were good. If you're travelling with 2 couples or friends I'm not sure this is the property for you. The bathroom situation is pretty convoluted. The sink and the toilet are in a room inside the master bedroom. The shower (with no sink or toilet)are in a room on the other side of the unit. It's a bit of an uncomfortable arrangement when travelling with non family members. It would be a perfect spot if the owners could add a sink and a toilet in the shower room! The stairs are steep - if you are travelling with anyone that has troubles climbing quite a few steep narrow stairs you might want to think twice. It was a bit of a chore for my aunt that has a sciatic issue. One final note, if the power to the oven/stove is not on be sure to reset the gfi on the wall plug to the right of the stove. There was nothing in the book to that effect and Matthew didn't know. I figured it out trial and error. Otherwise a nice spot and I would certainly stay there again, just not with friends.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your suggestions- and glad you would stay here again...FYI- there are now potholders and can openers...people take things from time to time - often by mistake- or if they stay in more than one unit (as large groups or families often do) they often move small items from unit to unit...in any event most people are fine with the bathroom situation as they appreciate the two separate bathrooms: one for using the boudoir and the other for showering!

Would stay here again

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 4 stayed at this property and it was great! I was a little worried since it's a condo it was going to be and feel small, however it was not and did not. It was very spacious and very comfortable. The location was perfect, central to everything we did (except Legoland lol). Like other reviewers have said the stairs are steep so with little ones a gate is recommended, that being said my 5 and 6 yr old did fine on them they just took it a little slow. It would not keep me from staying again. It's a beautiful home in part of San Diego thats the "place to be" it's the hot area but not loud and it is family friendly.

The only complaint I had was not having everything we needed. We cook pretty much every meal which is part of the reason we do it this way and not a hotel. We have a ton of food allergies so not having enough cookware or basic things like a strainer or can opener was frustrating. There was also no salt or pepper or garlic salt but they did have one of those spice wheels that sit on the counter. It just did not contain anything we use, we cook very basic. I think there needs to be more plates, cutlery, maybe just as a whole the kitchen needs to be stocked with more of everything. There was only 4 of us but we did use the kitchen a lot. We ate breakfast and dinner every night there and packed our lunches to go. We also did not have enough towels or washcloths. I am confident had I asked for more they would have given me more, I just didn't ask, we were so busy I would remember when it was too late.

Overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.

Owner's Response: We added all the items you mentioned as I mentioned in another review- folks when staying in the whole building move things around...we are making sure after each stay that those items i.e. potholders etc are still in the appropriate units!

Nice Property but needs more amenities

  • 3 of 5

My family and I stayed here in August of this year for 8 days. The house was beautiful but I did have issues that I think as a family it would be nice to know ahead of time. First, starting with the bathroom, there is only one and it is in the master bedroom. So.... if you have adult children/friends staying with you it will be a bit uncomfortable when they have to walk in to use the toilet. Second, it says it will sleep 7 yet the towel situation only accommodates 6 people. There is a FULL kitchen yet it really wasn't. There are no pot holders, no towels, not enough silverware to accommodate more than 4 people. The hardwood floors were filthy. We took our shoes off upon arrival and within the hour our feet were black. My husband tried cleaning them with paper towels but that didn't work so we went out and bought a mop as well as pot holders and towels to use for the week. My favorite is that there are not dressers to put your clothes in. There was so much empty space in this house and not utilized to its full capacity. When you have families coming in they usually need dressers or something to put their clothes. Not everything can be hung. The bathroom needed more cabinets of some sort to hold every ones things. Lastly, the batteries on the carbon monoxide machine went bad and after contacting Matthew ( Who said he would get on it) we went and bought our own batteries and took them out when we left. Very discouraging to see that these beautiful homes are just rented out without someone really taking the time to see what can be done to make someones vacation stress free. So in my opinion, this home is not right for friends or adult children. You can consider it with small kids where you don't care if they barge in on you or if they live out of suitcases for the week. Good luck
