About Sam Herbert
We have loved the South West and Cornwall in particular since our very first visit in the 1980s. We used to come here every summer for family camping holidays when the kids were small. It seems inevitable that we would end up buying a property here.
Why Sam Herbert chose Wadebridge
We bought this house in Wadebridge in 2003. We liked Wadebridge because of its location on the river Camel. It isn't as as crowded or busy as some of the resorts on the coast but the nearest beaches are only 15 minutes by car. In 2010 the whole family completely refurbished the house and added a roof terrace overlooking the river Camel. Each year we use the winter months to improve and maintain the property so that it stays in top condition for the rental season.
What makes this House unique
We love to sit on the roof terrace and watch the tide ebb and flow on the river Camel. The town centre is a 2 minute walk away across the river which is very convenient for shopping or going out in the evenings. One of our favourite beaches at New Polzeath is only a 15 minute drive away.

This property is in a wonderful location, only a short drive to many local places (Padstow, Polzeath, Port Isaac, Rock and so many more!) as well as handy to all the shops and facilities in town. Perfect if you want to head out along the Camel Trail in either direction on bikes or foot.
Great place for kids - 2 different playgrounds within 500m. Bedroom configuration works well for families, along with the two bathrooms.
We loved the living area, which allowed everyone their own area if needed, but to be still all together.
Owners are friendly and always helpful if needed. Property was clean and well maintained. We would definitely recommend this property to family and friends.
Cornwall is one of our favourite places to visit (we love the Coast paths and all the outdoor areas to explore). We would definitely stay here again if we are back in Cornwall.
This is our first time staying at Camel Prospect and it certainly did not disappoint. Superb location and base to visit the many incredible places and charms Kernow has to offer. Also, the opportunity to get more acquainted with Wadebridge as the walk in and around the town was always a delight.
The property is first class and set-up perfectly - the bottle of French red on arrival particularly pleasing!! Sam was always helpful and super approachable which makes a big difference to your stay.
Hopefully, in the very near future we'll be back to stay again.
Great place to stay
Camel Prospect was ideal for two families with two toddlers. We were visiting friends and the property was ideal for that. The property was very safe for the toddlers and well set out for sharing the house. The path up to the house is quite narrow but everyone managed! It’s very close to lots of beautiful beaches, not too far from Padstow and close to shops, restaurants and pubs.
Thank you for your lovely review, we're so glad you enjoyed your stay at Camel Prospect! Really happy to hear that it suited you as two families sharing the space and that you enjoyed the local beaches and Wadebridge's shops and restaurants. Hopefully you had a good chance to explore Daymer Bay and Polzeath beach. Glad to hear that the narrow entrance to the courtyard was negotiated well by you all - it takes a bit of getting used to at first but the trade off is a nice quiet space with no passing traffic! You're very welcome to stay again in the future when you next fancy a holiday based in Wadebridge :)
Great place for a family weekend.
Lovely welcome with wine and cookies!! Thank you. All the information we needed was clearly set out. The location was perfect for us as we were there for a family christening at the church along the road and the family members involved live on that road too. So we were able to walk instead of fighting for parking space. Our weekend was a very happy one and the only scary bit was driving up that narrow alleyway to the property. Have recommended the place to our family in Wadebridge for any of their friends visiting from a distance. Would love to come again.
Thanks for your lovely review Janet! Glad to hear that you had a great stay and Camel Prospect worked well for the family christening, it's definitely handy being able to walk into town - even if driving up the alleyway takes a bit of getting used to! You were perfect guests and we'd love to have you stay again if you're renting in Wadebridge in the future :)
Third stay here and it's still great
This is the third time we've stayed here- it's a perfect base for so many beaches and the camel trail. The property has everything you need- is clean, spacious and warm. Booking is really eay, with very friendly owners.
We do a lot of surfing so it's great that there's plenty of space, especially an outside tap and a secure area/utility space to dry wetsuits and store boards. Other reviews have talked about the accessame, but it's no problem for us. Would really recommend this property.
Thank you for your lovely review, we're really happy to hear that you're enjoying Camel Prospect and the benefits of being based in the centre of Wadebridge. Great to hear that you're fellow surfers, hopefully you got some good sessions in on this holiday! We'll look forward to welcoming you again in the future!
Ideal base to tour the area
The property had everything needed for our stay and was a good base to tour the area. Wadebridge is ideal if you like cycling but not a lot else to do.
Hi John, Thanks for leaving us your review. Great to hear that you enjoyed Wadebridge as a base to explore Cornwall from. Hopefully you enjoyed some of the cycling that the Camel Trail offers - one of our favourite rides is out to the Snails Pace Cafe on the Wenford Bridge branch line, great cakes await when you get to the end!
