About Anna Youngs

Anna and Dave Youngs are the owners of Chimney Cottage and extend a very warm welcome to you. We have three young children and have always loved the beauty, peacefulness and accessibility of the Peak District, as well as plenty of opportunity for adventure and fun. It is an ideal place for exploring the countryside and finding a quaint, English pub nearby to rest in afterwards! There is so much to do, or so little to do depending on how you feel. Relaxing in the peaceful cottage, in the quiet and friendly village of Winster, feels like home. We hope you think so too!

Why Anna Youngs chose Winster

We love the quirkiness and the cosiness of the cottage, with its traditional features and beautiful views.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage has stunning views to enjoy as you sit by the cosy fire!

It is a unique village with lots of passages to explore and not much traffic. Everyone is very friendly and helpful, with two pubs, a park, local walks and a village shop, plus local events, give it a special community feel.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a great cottage for a family! The toys, dvds and books were great and the fact that there is a separate playroom, which meant that we could relax in the cosy lounge. Lovely views and weather. Much to explore: bike rides on the Tissington trail, Dovedale stepping stones, Matlock Bath, the little village park and a lovely dinner in the pub of course! The local shop had everything we needed. Thank you!

Tired out worn out

  • 1 of 5

Cottage lovely views but very run down and definitely needs some t.l.c arrived with 3 rubbish bags outside front door, took several weeks for them to arrive as we were there for 5 weeks after talking to the owners were told we could get them from swimming pool 3miles away as they had to be special bags for holiday cottages ,oven didn’t work ,no ceiling light in main bedroom stairs were dangerous and needed carpet on them ,thought they might have left us a second set of sheets seeing we were there for 5 weeks we realise there was a washing machine and dryer but meant we had to make sure it was all done on same day come on we were on holiday ,couldn’t use back garden as steps and garden full of leaves and moss all over steps ,gardener came on the last week of our stay and swept all leaves and steps such a shame as it was lovely weather and would have been nice to sit out of a evening ,lounge very old and worn .Need a small car and competent driver not recommended for elderly as walk to steep.

Overall needs lots and lots of attention

Owner's Response: As the owners of Chimney Cottage, we are naturally disappointed with Jane's review as we feel it does not reflect how lovely the cottage is, how well it is maintained and how much value for money it is. The cottage is over 200 years old and has a lot of style and quirkiness to it. In response to Jane's comments: The garden is secluded and private with amazing views. There are some stone steps up to the garden, with a strong handrail that we have put in. These steps are not dangerous and are kept clean of leaves, moss and weeds by our gardener and ourselves. We were happy to offer Jane a very favourable rate for her stay in high season. She was offered the opportunity to pay for the cleaners to come in and change the bedding during her stay but she declined. The cottage is very well equiped with washing machine, tumble drier and washing line, which are there for guests to use as much as they like. With regards to the bins, bin bags are collected every two weeks. There are special green trade sacks, which have to be ordered from the local council. We ensured that there were enough and the cleaners were able to collect the green sacks from the local swimming pool and bring them to the cottage at our request. Under no circumstance did we suggest that Jane collect them herself (or the gardener!), I was merely informing her of why it took an extra day to replenish the special green bin liners. We appreciate her patience. The main bedroom has two bright table lamps, which shed plenty of light in the room and look very pretty. The wooden stairs have a handrail and do not need carpetting. Also, the oven works. If Jane had indicated to us during her stay that she could not work the oven then we would have been able to help her with this. Nobody else has ever had any issues with the above. As owners, we love Chimney Cottage and have made it as homely as we can so that it is comfortable, relaxing and has everything you might need at very reasonable prices. It is cleaned after every visit and regularly maintained and updated by ourselves, our gardener and any one else necessary. We hope that Jane's review does not put you off coming to see the cottage and how lovely and relaxing it is to stay there. Please read the other reviews to see what other people think. Many kind regards, Anna and Dave Youngs

A lovely cosy, quiet stay with fabulous views

  • 4 of 5

Chimney cottage is in a great location (once you've got used to driving up those narrow lanes!).

Winster is a lovely village, well located for walks. The village shop is excellent and well stocked so we didn't need to do any long supermarket treks for supplies.

The owners have provided most things to make it a very comfortable stay. Having two separate sitting rooms is a nice bonus and the kitchen and dining area is lovely and spacious.

It is a traditionally built cottage - with some of the issues that are normal for a cottage of that age and construction (some damp in the walls and draughts from the windows and door when it's blowy outside). But don't let that put you off as the owners have installed very efficient central heating with plenty of large radiators to keep the place nice and cosy. There's also a nice powerful, hot shower too.

Hope you enjoy your stay there as much as we did.

Charming cosy cottage with great views. Very comfortable and well equipped.

  • 5 of 5

Chimney cottage is in the delightful village of Winster. We stayed there for Christmas with our daughter and son in law and enjoyed walks from the cottage over the Peak District national park. We cooked our Christmas dinner in the well equipped kitchen and enjoyed relaxing in the living rooms. The cottage is warm and clean and the Christmas tree was a nice surprise. There are wonderful views from the main bedroom looking over the Derbyshire landscape. The cottage is a short walk up the hill from the centre of Winster, which has a very handy community shop that stocks most things and is open every day.

Well equipped lovely cottage in great location

Really great place for our short half-term family break. Cottage was great. Cosy, well kitted out - kitchen, toys, baby stuff, etc. Loved having a kids living room and a grown-up living room with real character.

Idyllic location; stunning views!

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful, traditionally decorated cottage in a great location in the Peaks. Numerous walks, of all levels of challenge, begin either in the village or very close by. In addition, it is close to Bakewell, Chatsworth and other popular tourist attractions. Inside it has an excellent mix of character charm and modern amenities with a sheltered terrace garden from which you can enjoy the amazing views. As a bonus, the village has The Bowling Green pub, offering mouth watering home cooked meals and a community owned convenience store manned predominantly by very helpful volunteers. We would definitely go back!
