About Monica

I am thrilled to be back in Costa Rica! I lived and owned a property for many years in the early nineties in Santa Teresa. I eventually relocated to S.W. Colorado and enjoyed the amazing mountain's, wilderness and community there for many wonderful years. I had always dreamed however of living in Costa Rica again, and so it is!

I came back 5 years ago in search of the primal nature that I so love, and a less developed area that still maintains it's local culture.

I fell in love with Manzanillo right away, and feel so fortunate to be here and to be able to share this incredible area and my beautiful home with others. Please go to www.monkeymood.com Travel Specialist for assistance with transport getting here and any other travel requests or needs!

Monica purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Monica chose Manzanillo

It is positioned in a beautiful jungle setting with abundant wildlife, and is within minutes of Manzanillo town and all of the other great beaches and restaurants in our S. Caribbean zone.

What makes this cabin unique

This is a very private property with only 2 small house rental's, both of which are owned and lived in by the owner. There is an on-site full time caretaker who lives in the cabin at the front of the property.

Great jungle retreat!

  • 5 of 5

As advertised, this is a very peaceful little jungle cabin with very lush surroundings. There were monkeys in the trees right in front of the house, and I also saw various species of trogons and tucans from the front porch. Close to Manzanillo beach, great location for a real Caribbean getaway.

Loved this Jungle Gem!

  • 5 of 5

We just can't express how much we loved this place! It was even more beautiful than the pictures. It doesn't show much of the grounds but they are well tended and very clean. The paths were all easily walked with lovely plants and trees to enjoy. The property sits off the main road so its very quiet except the jungle of course. For us we loved the howling monkeys and the sounds of insects and birds.

The place is very open to the elements but for the most part they seem to hang outside of the open air rooms with an occasional bug but they all seemed quite harmless. The bedroom and the bathroom are screened in, so that was good, no creepy surprises in bed or bathroom. I didn't use the nets provided, I just closed up room near dusk and had no problems.

This is a very private place and even though there are people around you don't see much of them or hear them either. The house itself is well designed for a simple type of living but had everything you need to feel comfortable. If we didn't have it we would just ask and it would be provided. The kitchen is satisfactory for simple cooking, it had a two burner stove top, a large refrigerator was great. We loved being able to make our own ice and have freezer space to stock pile it. It also held quite a bit of food unlike those tiny under the counter models. The bathroom is small but other than a shower and toilet what more space do you really need? Overall the way it was designed gave you a sense of being comfortably sitting in the jungle yet the niceties of being sheltered.

Unfortunately I got sick right before arriving but I must say if I had to be sick on vacation this was the place. Most places you'd be lying in a closed up hotel room but here I was able to convalesce on a large sitting sleeping couch on porch, very nice!

One of our favorite things to do was ride bikes into the little town of Manzanillo and hang out at the beach, it was only about ten minutes. The road is really pretty and flat with very little traffic. We also rode to other beaches and nearby towns as well. For further adventures the bus is right outside the gate so that was easy to get into the bigger town of Puerto Viejo for lunch or shopping. If you don't have a car it's fine, we didn't. However we did rent a motorbike for a few days and that really gave us a little more freedom to go further but for the most part we stayed pretty close to our home base.

We had a great time and would totally recommend staying here!

Beautiful Jungle Cabina

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in Victoria's Cabina.

It blended in well with the beautiful jungle and the wildlife viewing was excellent - monkeys, parrots, toucans, Blue Morpho butterfly, etc. The cabina was clean, cosy, comfortable and equipped with all the amenities to prepare your own meal if you desired. Eli the groundskeeper and his wife Maria who live on the property in their own separate cabin brought us fresh eggs, beautiful flowers and offered laundry service on site. On our visit there were two bikes available at no charge which saved us rental fees of $6 - $8 each per day.

It was a pleasure booking our stay directly with the owner, Victoria. She was extremely gracious, accommodating and understanding with our check in and check out time requests which allowed for a stress free holiday.

Thank you Victoria.

Great stay. Welcoming hosts. A travelers paradise. Very genuine local people and expats. Nature everywhere. This is truly the end of the road. Great hikes and snorkeling at the doorsteps. Great town for dancing the weekend away 12k down the road.surf breaks a-plenty. Bocas in Panama is a half day away.About as removed from all inclusive as it gets. Thank you Victoria. The trip was fantastic.
