The Big Dream House

The Big Dream House consists of two floors (surface 105 m² / 1130 ft²) and features three bedrooms: two downstairs and one upstairs. Downstairs there is one double bed and one king bed (or two single beds) and upstairs is one king bed (or two single beds.) The bedrooms can be locked, but the rest of the house is open space. This Manzanillo rental house has three bathrooms, one in each bedroom.

Wonderful stay

Everything was fantastic. Everything we needed was there - comfortable accommodation, tons of wildlife (monkeys, toucans, birds, butterflies...), beautiful beach in walking distance, and super helpful laundry service. It was a wonderful 5 night stay.

Perfect slice of heaven

I love this place, from the moment you arrive you arr welcomed and they are so helpful with everything, my rental got a flat tire they took care of it, my massage lady couldn't come they booked another one, laundry done daily. They check on you and let you know how the ocean is in the morning, if they've spotted any monkeys pr sloths for you to look at. I can't say enough about this place. Don't hesitate just book it!! I will be back my home away from home. Nothing

Hospitality, Beauty, and Retreat

We were so appreciative of the little details like being met at the gate upon our arrival in the dark, the daily laundry service, and the acceptance of delayed luggage while we were off property. The Big Dream House was perfect for our family of 5 offering both enough privacy for teens and enough seating for family time. It felt lost among the rainforest but never out of touch with the world. Woken by the howler monkeys each morning and serenaded by great green macaws or lulled to relax with the rain on the leaves and roof, it was a wonderful spot to call home while exploring the region.

One of my favorite places to stay

So much to love about this property and it’s owners. The great houses with outdoor living, comfy rooms and cool funky art. The sloth we got to visit close up. The beautiful grounds and location. The friendly staff. And more. They went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. I couldn’t recommend this place more! Nothing

Fantastic!

One of our best experiences as a family, completely submersed in nature and wildlife, amazing. We saw sloths, great green macaws, monkeys and hummingbirds just by our accommodation. Housekeeping support was an added bonus. We will be back again.

Our favorite place

I have travelled over 12000km throughout CR and stayed at 42 different places, from 5 star hotel to treehouses, and Congo Bongo still remains my favorite place to go to. It just feels like the true "essence" of Costa Rica.

Hidden gem

My wife and I stayed here with our two children ages 9 and 11 for 6 days. This property is absolutely amazing. The house has three separate bedrooms, with plenty of bed space. The whole property is amazing, with each house separated by enough jungle that you feel like you don’t have neighbors. The walk to the beach is short and fun for the kids. This property gives you the option of walking to the beach or driving a short distance depending on what you want to do. It is far enough away from puerto viejo that you are away from the crowds, but close enough that you can drive up for dinner. They leave a laundry basket for you, and if you put dirty laundry in it at night, by the time you get back from the beach the next day it is washed and waiting for you. It seemed like every time we left, the hosts came in and cleaned up slightly, brought the laundry back, or simply turned on the exterior lights and fans so the house was ready for our return. These were amazing gestures, but what was more amazing is that we never saw them doing this, so they completely respect your privacy. There is an outdoor shower to get the sand off the kids before going into the house, and even a pair of green macaws that are nesting in the trees overhead. Small touches like solar powered motion lights to light the pathway to the house after dark are wonderful extras. We all loved our stay, and we are already planning on coming back to stay here again. If you are coming with a group, each room has its own entrance and it’s own safe, with a wonderful common area downstairs to hang out. This is an excellent property and we could not have been happier with our stay. If you are looking for a 5 star resort with flat screen TVs and jacuzzis and “Americanized” everything, take your bad vibes somewhere else. If you are looking for a great vacation house that is more traditional to the local style with wonderful hosts and unbeatable beach access, you found your place.

Magical Jungle Fairytale

Having stayed at Congo Bongo twice, we can firmly vouch that it is one of the most magical places in Costa Rica, quite possibly even in the world. From the unique villas and art installations to the surrounding jungle and pristine beach, Congo Bongo is absolute perfection. Not only is each villa a testament to the power of sustainable creativity and ingenuity, but they also offer comfort, coziness, and every amenity one could need. Thank you for another wonderful stay, Congo Bongo! We love everything at Congo Bongo!

Mitten im Dschungel

Die Lodge hat eine phantastische Lage, die einzelnen Häuser sind mitten im Dschungel. Genau so stellt man sich die Karibik in Costa Rica vor. Über einen Pfad gelangt man zum wunderschönen hauseigenem Strand. In der Anlage gibt es unglaublich viele Tiere und Pflanzen zu entdecken. Hunde , Katzen, Affen, Frösche, das Hausschwein Superstar, Toucans, Racoons (die ab und zu checken, ob das Essen wirklich sicher verstaut ist :-) und noch so viel mehr. Zudem ist alles sehr liebevoll mit Kunstwerken und Skulpturen dekoriert. Nicht zu vergessen das sehr nette Personal und den Wäscheservice, den wir dankbar angenommen haben, vor allem da während der Regenzeit sonst nichts richtig trocknet. Nach Puerto Viejo ist es auch nicht weit, wo es vom Supermarkt bis zu karibischen Bars alles gibt. Pura Vida!

Rainforest Immersion

A wonderful staying! The vegetation, congos and rainforest life made this trip really a nature experience. The place is beautiful and very well maintained. I love that the owners put effort on make it secure. Their eco focus is seen all through the place from the entrance to the little path that leads to the beach. My kids 7 and 9 and husband and me had a wonderful time. Well, nothing really.

Amazing Stay at a Truly Remarkable Guest House

My wife and two children (ages 2 and 5) stayed at the Big House for five days. It will be remembered as one of the best vacations we have ever had. The house is amazing, surrounded by forest and teeming with wildlife. A female sloth with baby hung out right above our patio and we spotted a male sloth a couple of trees over. The howler monkeys were a constant presence, not to mention toucans, morphos and parrots. I spotted an agouti one day on the way to the beach. Speaking of the beach, it is beautiful! On the most crowded day we had to share a mile of beach with six other people. Everything about this place is amazing. Our kids are already begging us to go back. A big gracias to Jose, the night watchman for the great conversation. We wish you and your family the best. To Luna the cat, thanks for your constant company. Make sure you hit Selvin's, Pan Pey and Elena Brown's for some great Caribbean meals. This was my fourth visit to Costa Rica and the Caribbean side is now my new favorite.

The house and grounds are amazing and you wont find a better host than Daan

I have been to all parts of Costa Rica, some friends wanted to come down with me. I found Daan's place on VRBO and the pictures dont do it justice, its much better in person. Its a very nice short walk to the beach, normally you are alone on the beach. If you want a Cancun party place this is not for you, but if you want warmth, nature, uncrowded beach and an awesome beautiful house to stay in (will full kitchen) this is for you. FYI you can catch the shuttle bus from the airport to his place for about $40 pp, but I rent a SUV in San Jose for about $300 and drive....lil more freedom when there.
