About Trevor Hayne

With our own holidays in mind, we set about converting an old hay barn into a small self contained maisonette that was totally suitable for just two people. We wanted peace, tranquillity and the genuine pace of French country life with the only sound being song birds. We also like the occasional glass of wine accompanied by good food all within five minutes drive. We also like to cycle, walk and play golf. Fishing in the nearby River Boutonne is extremely relaxing. If that sounds like you, we are confident that Le Studio will not let you down.

Trevor Hayne purchased this cottage in 1996

Why Trevor Hayne chose Coivert

The Charente Maritime is somewhat unique inasmuch that it has its own micro-climate and boasts the highest number of sunshine hours on the west coast of France and with sunshine being toward the top of our list of ''must haves'', this seemed to be the ideal area to not only spend our family holidays, but also our future retirement.

We have been blessed with quite wonderful neighbours who are always most welcoming - not just to us but also our guests and they readily acknowledge our financial importance to the area.

Access is quite straightforward and fairly easy with numerous ferry routes from the UK and quality roads that we can only dream about here. The nearest airport would be La Rochelle which is less than an hours drive away, with Poitiers, Bordeaux and Bergerac being options.

What makes this cottage unique

Le Studio has been converted into a single bedroom maisonette that is ideal for two people. All rooms have open beamed ceilings - even the bathroom with local Charentaise stonework being exposed wherever possible.

Furniture is predominantly pine and there is even a pine rocking chair in the lounge for additional comfort.

A door opens out from the bedroom onto the terrace where you will enjoy quite wonderful views of the countryside whilst also enjoying a glass of your own particular favourite tipple or just topping up the suntan.

The village itself is very quiet and many of our customers comment on how peaceful the cottage and area is.

Bicycles are provided for those wishing to explore the area with a few watering holes nearby for those who develop a thirst along the way.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just returned from a lovely fortnight at Le Studio. Beautiful place for relaxing walking and bike riding. Clean well equipped gite, will return again soon we hope. Thank you Wendy and Trevor x ( Jim and Vanda, Taunton )

We have had a great time in your house which has lovely vibes. Especially enjoyed the evenings with the barbecue and several bottles of wine! The restaurant at Magne was superb and le patron was most welcoming. Thanks so much ( Rod and Lyn, Tunbridge Wells )

Lovely location, lovely gite, pleasant neighbours. Loved everything so much we are now looking for a place of our own!!! ( Gerald and Jenny, Swindon )

We found Le Studio to be the ideal base from which to explore this region of rural France, whilst still within striking distance of the coast. The accomodation is well appointed, comfortable and enjoys a fabulously peaceful setting. We would happily recommend this property to anyone looking for a low key, de-stressing break. Kevin & Zoe Holmes, Cambs. 07/13.

Great place for a quiet break

  • 5 of 5

Le Studio is a comfortable little flat with a small ground floor yard and a first floor terrace, both with table and chairs and both look out onto fields. We ate almost every meal outside. It was great to have the bikes available - ideal for exploring the surrounding area, including Aulnay with its romanesque church and Dampierre with its chateau and sculpture garden. Further afield, La Rochelle, Cognac and the Marais Poitevin ("Green Venice") are all good day trips within about an hour's drive away. Trevor and Wendy were great hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed our week there.

Very quiet and lovely spot

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week here. The reception from the owners was very warm and welcoming. There is plenty of advice if you need it. The area is very quiet but with good access to the coast and some interesting places. Great area for cycling. The gite is lovely and has all that you need. Lovely shower!!! Great to eat breakfast in the sun either on the terrace or the little garden.

This is a pretty rustic French cottage, nicely done . We stayed in late October and it was warm and cosy with lovely welcoming log fire on arrival. Everything was well laid out and comfortable.

Perfect for a couple

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed a very pleasant extended stay at Le Studio while buying a property in France. The Studio is well-equipped and cosy with good access to local shops and amenities. It

is situated in a small hamlet in beautiful countryside and is very peaceful; we were delighted to hear the nightingale singing on several occasions and to watch the swallows with their young. There are plenty of nearby tracks for walking and cycling while the beautiful towns of Saintes and La Rochelle are within easy striking distance.

The owners,Trevor and Wendy who live next-door, are extremely friendly and helpful; nothing is too much and they have a wealth of knowledge about local attractions and facilities.

We recommend Le Studio for anyone seeking peace and relaxation.

Tranquil get away

  • 5 of 5

Lovely quiet gite in the middle of the countryside. It is well equipped including the use of a gas BBQ and bikes. It was very clean and Wendy and Trevor were excellent, welcoming hosts. The gite is a short bike ride away from the excellent local pool and the donkey sanctuary and Venice vert are also not far. I would definitely recommend this place is you fancy getting away from it all.

Plenty of walks in the surrounding countryside where you can take it all in at your own pace, or ideally located for those who just want to relax. With Cognac only 45 minutes away it a great base for wine lovers, fellow alcoholics and connoisseurs of good food.

The Venise Verte or green Venice is about 35 minutes drive north of the cottage and provides a wonderful opportunity in which to explore a huge area of forests that are criss-crossed with slow moving waterways. You can hire your own punt and do the paddling or you can let a french gondolier to all the hard work.

The nearest beach is Châtelaillon-Plage near La Rochelle only an hours drive.

The nearest airport is La Rochelle which is just under an hours drive. Other airports are Poitiers ( 1 hour+ ), Bordeaux, Nantes and Bergerac ( all approx 2 hours ).

Nearest village is Loulay which is only 3 miles away. Cognac with its world famous distilleries is less than hours drive. Futuroscope theme park at Poitiers is just over an hours drive as is La Rochelle.

Further Details:

Our nearest village is Loulay which offers a post office, a number of shops and a bar cum restaurant, which features live music every Friday night during the summer months. St Jean D'Angely at 20 minutes drive offers two supermarkets, a variety of bars and quality restaurants.
