Dahabiya ‘Dream’ is the name of our traditional Nile cruise boat and Explore travel and Cruises want you to have the holiday of a lifetime by experiencing the magic of Egypt in a special and memorable way. During the 19th Century, gentry visitors travelled the Nile on luxurious private yachts known as Dahabiyas. These boats are beautifully crafted wooden sailing ships and allow you to experience the Nile in a nostalgic way. To be called a genuine Dahabiya the boat must have no engine and so sailing on Dream is peaceful and vibration free and is truly a unique river cruise experience. Our company owned and family run Dahabiya ‘Dream’ has been hand crafted to create an authentic sail boat as used by travellers and explorers discovering the wonders and mysteries of the Nile. This Luxury Dahabiya Dream Nile cruise itinerary combines historical and mystical sightseeing with the peace and tranquillity of a Nile cruise as you dreamt it should be. You will visit all the famous sites including the Valley of Kings and Karnak Temple as well as others not on the main tourist map such as El Kab and some of the remote beautiful islands along the Nile. Outstanding Holiday

We had a fantastic time on our recent cruise on the Dahabiya Dream. Of course we enjoyed the amazing sights of the many temples and tombs that we visited, but what absolutely made our holiday was the welcome and hospitality we received. Without exception every single member of the crew and staff on board seemed to go out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable and safe. The boat is classic but comfortable and the food was very good. Any specific dietary requests were willingly catered for. A beautiful country and lovely people. Don't hesitate to go if you're considering it. We had the time of our lives and always felt safe.

The Best holiday ever

we had a wonderful holiday on Dahabiya Dream this Christmas. We feel we were treated like honoured guests rather than paying clients. From our arrival in Cairo and trip to the Pyramids to the magical Dahabiya cruise, everything surpassed our expectations (which were high!). The star of the trip has to be the exquisite “Dream” and her crew. Nothing was too much trouble for any of them, from the unsurpassable Mahmoud, our superlative guides Mo and Ahmed and the magnificent crew. The food was amazing, and the perfect blend of the familiar and new things to try. Each meal was presented by Hassan the fabulous chef. We spent much of the cruise debating with our fellow passengers who would be taking him home with them at the end of the trip! Hamada was the perfect host, and knew how each of us liked our tea/coffee by the end of the first day. The whole crew were a delight and always had smiles on their faces. Every detail was considered, even down to the human-held bannister for the gangplank! They certainly are the Dream Team! We found the Egyptians to be delightful people, very caring and with a similar sense of humour to our own. We definitely recommend this holiday to anyone wants to Sail the Nile in Style

Do not book this cruise

I was outright lies to by Linda and Muhammed. They said the boat was covered the cueing had large gains in it when the sun came through. They said all trips would be done by 10.00am "since the sun was too strong." Frequently people were out in the middle of the day and once they took us on a boat with no roof in the middle if the afternoon. In Eygpt there are warnings about the sun and when I went it as unseasonably hot. They totally misled me about all of this despite me having had the foresight to ask about it in advance. Not only that but myself and another guest got a tummy bug on board which meant I spent two days in my cabin. Awful holiday.

Dreams come true after all

Relaxing and peaceful. The crew was wonderful and made us feel special. Mahmoud, our boat manager could not do enough for us. Take a tip, go when it is your birthday! The tours were well organised and we loved our guide Ahmed. Egypt is sensational and this way of seeing it is very special. Thank you to everyone.

Wonderful Holiday

Wonderful! Absolutely Wonderful. There's not much point repeating everything that's already been said as it is abundantly clear that everyone who has been on this boat has had the same experience. We cannot praise the Explore team highly enough from the moment we booked the trip to the moment we returned. Professionalism and attention to detail shone through at every level. All the information provided beforehand was detailed, relevant and thorough and every element of the trip itself was very well organised and although all transfers to all the sites were arranged, it never once felt like we were being herded about as we had our own dedicated Egyptologist on hand to guide us through any level of detail we wanted. The itinerary was flexible and there was plenty of time to relax on board to enjoy and marvel at the scenery as we sailed. The crew were fantastic as was the food and service. The balance was perfect. Dawn and I also took the optional flight to Abu Simbel and that was also extremely well organised. I joined TA originally to quiz other posters when we were thinking about booking as it seemed almost too good to be true but we were thrilled with our holiday and loved every minute!

A "Dream" holiday

Just spent a week on the Dahabiya Dream - a wonderful, newly built but old-fashioned sailing boat on the Nile - and thoroughly recommend it. The boat itself is beautifully made and maintained. The passenger cabins (six in all) are spacious, beds comfortable, ensuite perfect with a powerful, hot shower. Two windows through which we could watch the Nile. On deck there was a choice of sitting in comfortable deckchairs in the sun, or chairs and sofas under the awning where the dining table was also laid. There is also a comfortable lounge/bar with a wind-up gramophone, and a selection of books and games. Unfortunately the wind was not kind so we didn't have the sails up much, but the little tugboat that pulled us along meant we didn't have a noisy engine as we relaxed on deck. Sitting back and watching the Nile drift by was remarkably soothing, and there was much of interest to see on the banks, from farmers tending banana, mango and guava "orchards" to a wide variety of birds. The boat's crew, ably led by Mahmoud, the boat manager, were attentive and friendly - on a few evenings they led us in singing and dancing which we all enjoyed. The food throughout was excellent - three hearty meals a day, plus afternoon tea. The "magic" fruit cocktails are especially recommended. Alcohol on board is local beer and wine, and imported spirits. The boat was a wonderful base for the cruise, from Luxor to Aswan and back, which took us to several of the amazing temples and tombs Egypt is famous for, with the excellent Sameh as guide. He brought the history of Ancient Egypt alive, gave us an insight into the lives of the Pharoahs and to the symbolism of the amazing art of carvings, statues and hieroglyphs. Under his tutelage it was easy to see why people become fascinated by Egypt. We also marvelled at some of the engineering feats - from the Aswan High Dam to the incredible moving of temples when the dams flooded their original sites. Be prepared for some serious temple visiting - comfortable shoes or sandals - and wear clothing suitable for an Arab country. Be ready for early morning starts to get to sites before the crowds. We were there in the last week of January/beginning of February and found the weather very good - about 80F every day with clear, sunny skies, cool in the evening and a bit chilly in the early morning. It can be cooler in January, and much hotter later in the spring. In case you are worried, there are no crocodiles downstream of the Aswan High Dam

Nile Tour

This was a trip that was full of surprises from start to finish. The boat was exemplary - clean and luxurious in every way. There were about the same number of crew as guests, about 11 so one was treated royally and with great friendship. The trips to see the ancient Egyptians ruins was accompanied by someone who knew what he was talking about and had great insight. A number of us took the early morning balloon to see the Valley of the kings and Queens - brilliant and worth the extra cost. The food was exquisite and an evening on the shore of the Nile for a BBQ and dancing under the stars was well organized and we all had great fun. It is a great shame that Egypt has been in such turmoil but I can assure you that not once did politics ever come into the equation and spoiled our adventure. I would highly recommend this vacation and Linda will be there to answer all of your questions as she did mine.

Elegant Egypt

I don't normally do this - I don't do Facething, or Twit, or any other such. I don't like it. However, I am networking this wonderful trip on the Nile like crazy. The Dream is just that. A wonderful, elegant, dreamlike, sytlish saunter back into the 1930's... The Dahibyia was spotless, my cabin was gorgeous and spacious, the food divine, the staff were there 24/7 but never, never obtrusive. In fact, they were intrinsic to the enjoyment of the whole trip. And our own personal guide for all the temples enroute.. and so much knowledge. It really was fantastic. If you want luxury, tranquility and just plain sailing along like you something really special - then you have to this! You just have to.
