Traditional Cottage in Peaceful Location Within Easy Reach Of The Village Centre

About Mrs Clare Ridden
We started walking in the Lake District 7 years ago and fell in love with the area so much we decided to look for a property there. As soon as we viewed Hollens Farm Cottage we knew immediately that this was going to be the most perfect second home for us and still is. Grasmere is a perfect setting for going off bike riding, running, walking or just chilling out and enjoy the views.
Mrs Clare Ridden purchased this Cottage in 2010
What makes this Cottage unique
The old character charm of our cottage is what we fell in love with, the Lakeland flagged floor in the kitchen along with the Rayburn oven creating a lovely cosy atmosphere where you can enjoy your meals. Rustic beams in the kitchen, master bedroom and living room, along with a log burner to relax in front of after a days walking on the fells. Sitting on the window seat in the master bedroom the views towards Sour Milk Ghyll are truly wonderful.

Great little cottage
We had a lovely stay at Hollens Farm Cottage. The cottage is situated in a great spot a very short walk from Grasmere village. Very cosy and clean kitchen and living room downstairs and good sized bedrooms. It was great to stay somewhere that felt very "Lake District" but everything was modern enough to make it a comfortable stay too!
Would definitely go back.
3 walkers on week holiday
Very comfortable, warm and cosy with slow cooking from the Rayburn.
Many thanks Claire, the place was perfect. Plenty of room and the aga and wood burner were a real treat for a few warm cosy evenings. Woild highly recommend this place. Grasmere is a great base for exploring the lakes and the village has all you need while at the same time being close to the main attractions of the lakes. Excellent. Will definitely stay here again when we return to the lakes.
Beautiful well equipped cottage in great location
Good communication & directions. Conveniently located. Comfy bed, roomy living room & great log fire.
Great location, lovely wee cottage
Clear info about how to access property. Cottage is very tastefully decorated and immaculately clean; it's comfortable, warm and cosy too. Its location is excellent, just a few minutes walk across field to the lovely village of Grasmere and there are loads of walks straight from the door. The only view is from the double bedroom as the cottage is surrounded by other buildings.
We stayed in February so weren't planning on sitting outside, but as the courtyard right outside the door is where guests' car is parked, not sure how that would work?
Owners were keen to remind guests to leave the property clean and strip beds before the fairly early departure time of 9.30. Also guests have to provide their own towels and make sure they have a loo roll with them on arrival! Paying for heating in cash at the end of the stay was slightly inconvenient as we had to get change from neighbours.
But all in all a very pleasant stay in a lovely wee cottage
Thank you very much for your review. Please accept our apologies that there was no toilet roll left for your arrival, one should have been provided and I will speak to our cleaner about this. It is unfortunate that we do not have a private garden but there is also parking for one car in front of our garage should you wish to sit outside in our courtyard. Any gas money due to us can either be paid by cash, cheque or bank transfer, which ever is easier for our guests, so again please accept my apologies if you were inconvenienced having to ask our neighbours for change.
We hope that you enjoyed your stay will return to Grasmere in the future.
A very cosy cottage for a mid-winter break
This cottage is well-equipped, and for a winter break it is ideal, in that it is very well insulated with double-glazing in new sash-windows, thick walls, and some sort of heating under the bathroom floor. It stayed warm all day with the thermostat turned down, while we were out, and was perfectly pleasant when we returned. Also, the situation is excellent, with a pleasant five-minute walk into Grasmere village.
Grasmere is situated approx. 12 miles south of Keswick, approx. 8 miles north of Windermere and approx. 4 miles north of Ambleside.
There are plenty of restaurants, pubs, walking shops and coffee shops in and around the village. Also in the village is the renowned Sarah Nelson Ginger Bread shop and the Wordsworth Museum. A small well stocked village store, bakery and post office are also in the village centre.
