Gardener's cottage is a traditionally built, flint and brick, home within the old walled garden of historic West Stow Hall. To the front is a pleasant, south facing garden ideal for BBQs- Garden furniture supplied. At the back there are fields with horses and foals. It is a large, recently up dated home full of light and totally peaceful, ideal for families or for those seeking a country retreat. The rooms are of all of a good size and all well furnished; good quality bedlinen, towels etc are included. As well as having all the essentials for modern day living the kitchen also has a solid fuel Rayburn. Lovely on chilly days and great for cooking stews and warming your feet! The dinning/ sitting room is particularly pleasant with lovely French doors opening onto the garden. While the King's Forest, ideal for riders, bikers and hikers is a five minute walk away. There are several excellent golf courses within a short drive, and Larkwood fisheries is at the bottom of the drive! The renowned Anglo-Saxon Village is a 20 min walk away and several fascinating National trust properties are within easy reach. Historic Bury St Edmunds is a short drive as are many of Suffolk's loveliest towns and villages making Gardener's Cottage the ideal base from which to explore Cambridge, Newmarket or Lavenham.

About Eileen Gilbert
Although Gardener's Cottage is in the garden of our home West Stow Hall it is totally private. We will not be breathing down your neck but are on hand if any questions or problems arise. I run the Hall as a Wolsey Lodge B&B while my husband works in London. We love the history and beauty of the Hall and Suffolk in general and enjoy seeing others discover how lovely this part of the world is and how much there is do. Our dog, Monty, a border coliie cross is great. Very friendly and happy to accompany everyone every where. He is great when taken for walks as very obedient and - so far- has always returned when called! New hens will be arriving shortly and we are happy for children to help with the egg collecting while there is apple picking in the autumn!

The perfect country retreat!
My daughter and I needed a base near Bury St. Edmunds whilst visiting from the US for a few days and after looking at several options, we chose the country cottage. My daughter loves horses and it was an unexpected bonus that West Stow Hall is right next to a horse farm. Eileen was very accommodating and made us feel like one of the family. I definitely recommend the country cottage if you are looking for a cozy, peaceful place to stay.
Gardner's Cottage was perfect
Mrs. Gilbert is a wonderful hostess. Everything at Gardner's Cottage was well organized, clean, and the owner was easy to reach in case of questions. The cottage had plenty of space for our family and the "extra" attention to detail such as decorating for Christmas (including a decorated tree) made our stay very special. We would love to spend another holiday here!
Thank you very much for such a lovely review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your time at West Stow.
All the best for 2018.
Lovely stay at west stow hall, gardeners cottage. very piecefull getaway, lovely surroundings all we really needed. The owners very friendly and flexible to accommodate requests. Def will return we absolutely love it
The cottage had everything we needed, was in a lovely location with a very pretty, enclosed garden and would certainly recommend. It was a pleasure to meet Eileen and be greeted by Monty the dog each time we arrived back. If I was being really picky we found the shower a bit weak and the towels a tad tired but they did the job. Thank you for being so welcoming.
This cottage and location is nothing short of stunning!
Eileen the owner was friendly and welcoming and we felt this place was a true home from home. The cottage was well equiped clean and tidy, the grounds were lovely, a pure and tranquil quiet place to relax. 10/10 to you Eileen, exelent all round, will be back! :)
Exzellent location and countryside. Tudor historic holiday experience.

Many thanks for your lovely review. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay and look forward to seeing you in the future. You were ideal guests...Monty in particular will miss Eleanor!
Best Wishes Eileen
Stansted and Norwich are our nearest airports. Both are approx. a one hour drive. West Stow is about 1hour 30 mins from Harwich. The closest station is Bury St Edmunds which is 20mins by car. A car is recommended though there are bus services from nearby villages to Bury
It is 5 miles to Bury St Edmunds, 16 miles to Newmarket, 17miles to Lavenham, 30 miles to Cambridge, and 59 miles to Aldeburgh and Southwold.
We are lucky in having several good pubs and nice places to eat near to West Stow such as The Cadogan at Ingham and the Organic café at Fornham All Saints. The well know Anglo-Saxon village is a short walk away while trout fishing is available at the bottom of the drive. Go Ape which has an amazing tree top walkways is a short drive as is Centre Parcs at Elvedon, lovely for a spa! There is also a lovely garden Fuller's Mill in the village. Bury St Edmunds has excellent shops, restaurants and pubs as well as two cinemas, the Arena which hosts a wide variety of musical events and a lovely Regency theatre.
Booking Changeover Day: Changeover day is usually Saturday but when possible we will be flexible. The departure time is 11 am and arrival time is 4pm-though it is often possible to arrive earlier. We are happy to put away any on line shopping.
