Jamaica Family Trip

The house in itself was more than adequate to accommodate all of my family. We arrived on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. Miss Colleen, our cook was just amazing. She always checked with me to see what we wanted for breakfast and dinner. She was an absolute wonder. We were there from July 16 - 18. Our initial check out date was the 21st, however we had to book at the Riu Resort for the rest of the nights. The electricity went out on Thursday around noon. No a/c and the house got very hot. Miss Kelly the manager assured us that the electricity would come on “shortly”. We decided to walk down to the beach area. It was wonderful, with a good breeze which we welcomed. We returned around 4:00pm and the electricity was still not on. I had messaged Barrington and advised him about the electricity. He stated that he was very sorry but that it would be on again “very shortly”. Since the WiFi was very spotty, his later response communication was never received by me. Evidently he had sent a message that he had booked another villa for us for that night and he assured me full power would be restored the next day. In the interim I decided to look for other accommodations since by that time the heat was overwhelming. Remember, I did not receive his message about the other villa. As a matter of fact, I didn’t even know about the other villa until Omar, our driver, came to pick us up to take us to the Riu Resort that I had to book for 3 nights (which was their minimum). Horrible stay! Don’t book here- have pic and videos- message me for proof

horrible stay!!!. Other positive reviews must be fake!!! House is large but run down, dirty and dusty. Air conditioning didn’t work in multiple rooms, toilets in two rooms didn’t flush, no hot water coming from sinks or shower in several bathrooms. There were cockroaches, huge spiders, colony of ants in bedrooms and kitchen drawers. The house obviously isn’t rented out often as there was no food at all in the house (not even water) upon arrival. Staff told us they had been hired 3 days prior — although I had booked for March, then rescheduled to June - and had sent a list of groceries and menu prior. Staff at the gate were unprofessional- shirtless and pants falling off upon arrival and throughout the day — fly unzipped. We specified that 3 of 7 members of our group only ate fish (no chicken or beef) however, we were served chicken on the first night. When we reported all of these matters of concern to the owner, things got much much worse. He accused me of lying and sent his house manager to check the house the following morning. She arrived at 7 am and barged into the room where two of my guests were staying waking them up in a very angry, hostile, aggressive manner. She spoke in a belligerent, taunting way stating multiple times “show me -show me” demanding to see the cockroaches and spiders. She wanted to enter the room where my daughter was sleeping - and close off all rooms not allowing us to get our massages. We had to rebook for another villa.

Absolutely accommodating!

This was a unique birthday celebration and homecoming. My family and friends thoroughly enjoyed. Things to note: -Great, willing, & friendly staff to include superior security and transportation. -comfortable bedding, cool bedrooms, and very clean house overall. -bathrooms with jetted tubs in each room -each room with a balcony -the hospitality is amazing. Things to keep in mind: This is Jamaica (not the US). Some reviews are unfair in the expectations. Some things are out of the staff and owners control.

Good Intent, Disappointing House

We arrived at the house and greeted by Nekisha and staff. There was no central air upon entering the home, only air conditioning in the bedrooms. The heat in the home was unbearable and made it hard to come out of your bedroom to mingle with everyone. Some of the TVs didn’t work and there was no running water in most of the bathrooms. I immediately sent a message to Barrington. He replied and stated that there was a burst pipe on the estate, mentioned low water pressure and air conditioners are only in the bedrooms. Everyday of our stay, we had no running water and no flushing toilets. Other issues were, mouse droppings in the kitchen cabinets, tile flooring that buckled in one of the bedrooms(tiles were later replaced that evening), the bar area looked dilapidated and shingles need replacing, the pool and jacuzzi weren’t cleaned prior to our arrival nor during our stay, there were huge cockroaches in some of the bedrooms and bathrooms, the air conditioner in the master suite stopped working, the oven in the kitchen didn’t work. We used bottled water to cleanse at times because of the water issue. Every issue stated above, host was contacted and he did respond, but I felt that he was just “responding to the message” to appease us. Family members left to go stay at the RIU resort due to issues. Staff was great, but shouldn’t have to work with the conditions of the home. Running water shouldn’t be an issue. Host should depict accurate facts about home. Would not rebook.

FALSE Property Descriptions. Just to name a few things that did not work or missing: Cockroaches in several rooms Property is not maintained at all Pool was dirty and had algae all over Billiards Hall dirty and broken pool table and sticks TV's not working Some AC's broken No Hot Tub/Jacuzzi Safes did not work The owner/manager Barrington was horrible to deal with once I complained, initially he was very responsive and professional. Once I complained he called me and put the blame on me, he had the audacity to tell me I am racist and I don't like Black people and I brought cockroaches with me. Unwilling to do anything for the things that were not working and had excuses for everything. The staff was horrible, especially the so-called Manager, Nikisha. The staff went missing for days and would not show up for anything, of course, they showed up last day for tips. One highlight was the chef, Dave. Oh, also Jamaican. He was absolutely amazing and handled the house all by himself and was very gracious. If he wasn't there we would have not been able to survive the 4 days. The other person that saved the trip was amazing, Omar (also jamaican), the driver referred by Barrington. He was very professional and dedicated. He made the trip outside the house fun. I urge people to read this before booking as you will be very sorry if you book this villa. I don't know if the other reviews are bought or what but it sure does seem like it. I have pictures and videos to prove it.

Yearly Vacation

Eight of us stayed for a week. The property was beautiful and the staff was awesome. Chef prepared wonderful meals and the property manager handled all our needs. We had amazing in-house massages. The manager and our driver handled everything. We had a few hiccups but our staff handled them professionally and always with a smile. The only disappointment was the description said there was a TV in every room. Out of eight bedrooms only one had a working tv. Our room had no tv at all. We would definitely rent again.

Villa of Paradise

Paradise is the best word to describe this wonderful villa. Upon our arrival we were greeted by the most caring staff who were one of the main reasons that our stay was so pleasurable!! They were completely attentive to all of our needs and willing to go above and beyond to exceed our expectations- even when we made minor changes to our plans. Kelly was our overall day to day house manager and she checked in frequently to make sure we were well taken care of. Dabbie and Stacy were sweet as ever and worked extremely hard to ensure that the villa was always beautifully maintained, Niko was so helpful in going to the market for us to pickup additional items and also helping us to operate the outdoor music which made our night time by the pool so fun. And Ansel, our Chef, prepared the most appetizing and healthy meals each day and made sure to accommodate requests for dietary restrictions. He also is an amazing singer and sang happy birthday for me which put the icing on the cake!!! The property itself was very accommodating for the 13 guests that’s joined me, and there was room for us all to totally enjoy our time. The rooms were well maintained and cleaned daily and we always had plenty of towels for the pool and beach. The only thing tat I would enhance would be the water temperature- not all of the rooms had warm temperature water which may have been a result of the number of people staying on the property. Overall I rate this property with 5 stars, and would recommend it to other travelers without a doubt!!!

A fabulous and relaxing retreat.

Our stay at L'Horizon could not have been better. I brought 11 people down for a yoga retreat. We did yoga the morning by the pool, and in the afternoon on the upstairs balcony. The staff took fabulous care of us. The house is large and beautiful and very clean. Ansel, our chef, did an excellent job with our vegan meals. Miss Kelly, the house manager, was so very helpful in helping to arrange massages, our 2 excursions and transportation for our dinners out. She even went above and beyond going into Ocho Rios to help us make a dinner reservation when Miss T's phone was not working (great place for dinner). We also had dinner twice on the beach at Bamboo Blu which is a short walk away. The private association beach is a very short and easy walk. The beach is lovely, uncrowded and the water warm and the most beautiful shades of green and blue. We mostly just hung out by the pool and the beach in the afternoons. The owner was very responsive and checked in during our stay. I have only accolades for the house and the staff. I would highly recommend the property for groups or family reunions. Plenty of room for everyone to be together and have private space. Everyone in our group said this was a very relaxing vacation and all are retuning home relaxed and rejuvenated.

Best holiday yet!

My husband, myself and our little girl had such a wonderful peaceful but fun filled time in Jamaica and it was all because of this beauful villa, the perfect staff, the hotel manager, the delicious food and Barrington the owner. Beautiful Getaway!

Myself and 21 of my Sorority Sisters enjoyed a wonderful stay at L'Horizon. The pictures do not serve this house justice. It is beautiful! The owner, Mr. Barrington was always available to answer our questions. The staff was nice and professional. The beach is near and picture perfect. The manager even assisted us with finding transportation to the excursions. This was an amazing home. Thank you again!

Perfection and Relaxation all in one

My husband, myself and my little 8 month daughter had such a wonderful peaceful but fun filled time in Jamaica and it was all because of this beauful villa, the perfect staff, the hotel manager, the delicious food and of course Barrington the owner. The pictures really do not give this place any justice! Everthing was cleaned to perfection, no task was too big or too small, staff were so friendly and kind to my little daughter.....even through her tantrum phases and offered any help that they could. We asked to visit town and was driven to best parts of ocho rios so we can see the life of town which was amazing. The pool was great and HUGE! The jacuzzi was very relaxing and being served lunch by pool was amazing! the private beach was so relaxing, some days it was just us the calm waves and the restaurant staff. The most memorable part of this stay was that we had an issue getting back as our flight had been cancelled. Barrington was so understanding and let us stay until our flight was ok to go. Thank you so much for such a memorable stay and your genorosity, im so glad my daughter's first trip was to L'Horizon Jamaica. You will definitely be seeing us again.

Beautiful house, great location, memorable stay

I stayed here last month for my wedding. The house is beautiful and spacious- so you can always find a corner to steal away for some peace if you’re travelling in a big group. The staff are amazing- genuinely kind and personable people. Puppy (the security guard) was amazing & never made us feel like we were putting him out, no matter what time we got back at night or how many times we were in & out (which was a lot :/) The rooms are flawless! I love that every room its own AC unit, en-suite bathroom, and balcony; and every bed its own mosquito net- so no matter which room you’re in, you don’t feel like you lucked out. The wireless was the best I’ve experienced in Jamaica (strong signal and fast) and I’ve been all over the island a few times. The owner and staff were really accommodating and organised a room for some of my guests to change in (which I don’t even remember asking for!) The bar has its own sound system, which of course creates an amazing vibe to simply sit and chill. I honestly enjoyed my stay here and would recommend it.

Wonderful staff, less than wonderful house

I’ll be honest, the house is in need up some updating and care. The hot tub didn’t work, the tennis court was in ruin, and hot water, well, the wasn’t really any. Also, the WIFI was spotty (which was a challenge since some of us had jobs we had to stay on call for). That being said, my guests and I did have a wonderful time! The biggest asset of the house: the staff! Each and everyone of the staff members brought something to the experience! The chef: Oh My Gosh!! So good. He served literally the best jerk chicken I’ve ever had in my life and, as a repeat visitor to Jamaica, I’ve had my fair share. I cannot speak more highly of the food! Then there’s the bartender: makes AWESOME drinks, plays great authentic Jamaican music and knows how to shake a leg. He and the staff even taught us a few moves to bring back to the States. The house staff were also very friendly and cheerful from sun up to sun down, and the grounds crew were fun to hang and chat with, and also joined in on our nightly dance parties on the beautifully maintained lawn . The staff honestly made the house! As mentioned, the house is in need of some serious TLC, but that’s not to say it wasn’t beautiful. The rooms were spotless and well appointed, it was roomy and nicely furnished. It was authentically Jamaican and in a lovely neighborhood. Would definitely recommend, just w some explaination and w proper expectations. Oh, and the “private beach” is only a tiny beach club about 10 mind away. The music is loud and lounge chairs pricey. Was a bit dissatisfied w this as well. Luckily the shuttle driver we had drove us to some better spots.

L'horizon A Gem in Mamme Bay, Ocho Rios

L'Horizon is situated on the beautiful Mamme Bay private estate. The rooms are really spacious and tastefully decorated with en-suite jacuzzi in each room and private balcony.Whether you like to socialise or just have your own private space there's plenty of that to be found around the villa. The grounds were absolutely beautiful and we'll kept with that gorgeous swimming pool and outdoor jacuzzi attached. We especially enjoyed the poolside bar for all those cocktails as you lounge around. If you have the energy there's a tennis court and gym to work off the extra pounds those super delicious home cooked meals will put on you. The staff, managed by Miss Kelly who runs a tight ship, are lovely, welcoming, friendly and were always willing to go more than the extra mile.They were only happy when we were happy. Really good service is hard to find these days but you'll find it here. I went there with my parents. My mum is very fussy when it comes to eating but at almost every meal she left an empty plate, and the only reason there was food left on the plate was because our tummies couldn't hold anymore. They were extremely happy and rested. We soooo enjoyed the beautiful private white sandy beach which was a leisurely 5 minutes stroll away, with some wonderful seaside restaurants offering freshly caught seafood plus. We also took the 10 minutes drive to Ocho Rios town centre to experience the beautiful craft market, shopping and visiting the authentic outdoor market. There was also Dolphin Cove, the world famous Duns River falls and so much more closeby which we did't have enough time to experience. My only regret was that the time was so short at the villa but we left feeling we had had a well rested holiday. L'horizon gave us the experience of the rich holidaying in a private villa at a fraction of the price. Would I return? In a heart beat. Horrible!

10 days we stayed there - group of 7. Took until the 9th day for us to have hot water. The owner emailed us that the staff would be provided - the day before we left, he said we were responsible for their pay. After tens of thousands to stay there, this guy is a piece of work and has A LOT of nerve to do that. And the gal he uses as the manager is another level....she lied to our faces and had the nerve to bring the Jamaica police the day we left thinking that was going to make us pay her! She said we couldn't tip the staff, that we had to give her the tip....hahaha. She did nothing for us to deserve THEIR money. The contract also included a driver - who charged us $250 just to go to the Bob Marley house. The whole ordeal was ridiculous and I would NEVER recommend anyone waste their money here.

Beautiful, relaxing clean with lovely staff

We spent 7 days at L’Horizon as we were getting married there. It is a beautiful villa set in a lovely location, but there were areas within the staff, that let them down. Although the staff was very friendly and very helpful they lacked initiative and sometimes required a little direction. Overall the Villa was lovely and it lived up to the images shown on the site. It was clean and tidy; the staff was approachable & well mannered. Mrs. Rose the cook, is a lovely lady and excellent cook she prepared some lovely homemade food; We enjoyed our 7-day stay there; it is at least 5-8 min walk from the beach, you can also gain access to the local restaurant. It was in an ideal location for our wedding guests as they stayed in the Riu, which shared the same beach as the villa and was next door to the villa, which is recommended if you are arranging a private function and have guests staying at the Riu. Barrington the owner was great, he has always responded promptly when we have communicated with him, and he ensured his upmost that we were happy, even once we had returned home. He is a great example of an excellent host. We would recommend the villa to others & would stay there again in the future.

A great vacation

Our week at L'Horizon was very enjoyable. The staff was extremely attentive to our needs. This was a vacation for my entire family, which consists of 18 people, myself, my wife, our kids and 8 grandkids. The 8 bedrooms at L'Horizon were comfortable, and perfect for our needs. The house is very large, but starting to show its age. We spent the majority of our time socializing at the pool and bar area. The Jacuzzi was not operating during our visit, but we did not miss it. The bar itself was not very well stocked, but transport into the Ocho Rios market was provided, and we were able to buy all the supplies needed for our group. Transportation was also provided for all of the sites we wanted to visit. My group really enjoyed the zip line, and the swim with the dolphins. Meals provided were very good, it took the cooks a couple of days to adjust to the size of our group, but they did a great job. The Jamaican style of cooking takes a little getting used to, as they leave all the bones in which can be difficult with small children, especially when serving fish. The beach, which is a 5-6 minute walk is wonderful, and was perfect for our group with the diverse ages. The Tennis court is in need of repair, but our group were not tennis players. All in all my family had a great time that we will talk about for years, One thing I should mention is that any supplies used at the bar that are supplied by L'Horizon require cash payment, also you must pay for the gas used in the transport vehicle with cash. We scrambled a little to come up with enough cash, so I suggest you bring a little extra.

beautiful!

The villa was everything the pictures showed and more.......the pool was gorgeous and the grounds spotless. There are not enough words to describe the warmth of the staff, they were wonderful and very accommodating and very friendly, never making you feel like you weren't at home. Omar and his drivers were totaling delightful, with a wealth of knowledge about the island. Great vacation!

Great Staff, Great Service, Great Trip!

We had a group of 12 and we were very comfortable. The house was spacious and clean. The staff was amazing and all seven of them worked very hard to make our trip memorable. The home cooked food was great. The beach was right around the corner and there were plenty of local attractions nearby. Barrington, the homeowner, was very responsive to our inquiries leading up to the trip and we will definitely plan on staying here again.

Great time and even greater wedding at L'Horizon

We spent a great week at L’Horizon the last week of May. It was one part reunion, one part wedding and we all had a great time. We had a full house of 20 people and the reviews were correct- we never felt crowded. Major cudos to Ms. Joy and her team for great meals and even greater personalities. Many a time we made last minute changes to the menu or headcount and she still made it work. Great drinks were made round the clock for our huge group by resident bartender Oliver. The grounds are well maintained and the property and landscaping is as shown in the pictures. Major praise for O’Neil who played the role of driver, special events chef and all around super guy who made our stay at L’Horizon great. We got married on site and O’Niel handled it from beginning to end with a great menu..including a special request for a roasted whole pig. It was amazing and we are still getting compliments many weeks later! The staff of L’Horizon is wonderful and very accommodating with great food, great ambiance and personalities. Take a 5 minute walk to Bamboo Blu for beach access and great meals. Villa residents do get a 15% discount if they present a membership card. See Ms. Joy for the card. A good time was had by all!

Beautiful villa, perfectly situated!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at L'Horizon villa. I want to start by highlighting that the staff here is second to none. Joy (the cook) is an amazing cook and we enjoyed each meal she prepared for us. The ladies made sure our rooms were cleaned well everyday during our stay. The villa was absolutely spotless. We had a bartender on hand throughout the day. It was very nice to have drinks and listen to music by the pool. He also made great drinks! (the Bob Marley shot being my favorite)! I felt really safe with the two guys around that kept the gate, the pool, and handled landscaping. They were constantly working (the landscaping is beautiful). My favorite accommodation was access to the private beach! The beach was clean, it wasn't crowded, it was beyond beautiful, and there was a cool beach restaurant where we were brought lunch and drinks right on the beach!! I really enjoyed the privacy of the villa and yet being able to have a resort feel to it. I will definitely return when in Jamaica.

Didn't meet my full expectations

The house was clean and the staff was friendly. I was never disappointed with my drinks the bartender fixed and the pool is amazing. Now the bad. When we arrived the house was very hot and full of mosquitoes. The linens are paper thin, the pillows are terrible and the towels are very hard. No water pressure in the shower and at times the water was not hot. The house needs to be upgraded. Safes in the rooms did not work. We had a misunderstanding about the transportation because we were charged for each individual when we went somewhere. The owner did offer to pay our transportation the rest of the trip. Omar still charged us but the owner gave us our money back the day we were leaving. I feel if the house is upgraded with new linens, pillows, towels, safe in rooms, vanity chairs and chairs in rooms re-upholstered and control the mosquitoes by keeping the doors and windows closed it would be a more enjoyable experience. It wasn't a horrible experience but I did have higher expectations.

Luxury Villa in Paradise

We’ve been to this beautiful spacious villa several times now. And we always have a relaxing wonderful stay. The facilities are great, a good sized outdoor pool, tennis court, gym and our very own onsite barman. He makes awesome cocktails for sipping by the pool or chilling out at the bar listening to some great music, all drinks are very reasonably priced. The food is great and you can definitely experience the taste of Jamaica or request anything else that may take your fancy. The onsite staff keep the villa spotless, our rooms were cleaned, bedding and linen changed daily, the room always smelt and felt very fresh. The beach is only a few minutes walk from the villa; the entry pass entitles you to 15% discount on food and drink at the restaurant on the beach. We’ll definitely be staying here again, L Horizon catered to all of our needs, we didn’t have to even leave the villa if we didn’t want to, everything is on site. Wonderful Villas Close to everything

Just returned back from staying in this beautiful villa on the exclusive Mammee Bay Estate in Jamaica with friends for 2 weeks. Arrived in Jamaica after a long flight to be met by the agent and his driver Omar for the journey to the villa. Both very nice and helpful and gave us a brief overview of the area. The Mammee Bay Estate is an exclusive gated community and has a secluded feel to it even though it is so close to everything. The villa itself is imposing from the outside but surprisingly cosy inside given its open plan feel. We stayed in a large comfortable double room with a huge ensuite bathroom and balcony. The room was always spotlessly clean during our stay and had the added benefit of a flat screen TV with a large selection of satellite channels and the best WIFI signal we've ever had in the Caribbean. It is surrounded by lovely gardens, tennis courts, bar area and of course a great pool. The villa was fully staffed and they couldn't do enough for you. From the tons of food served by Joy and Stacey to the fantastic Jerk Chicken and Lobster cooked by their brilliant chef "Barefoot"! Washed down with the tastiest cocktails made by resident barman Ruel - try the pina coladas and rum punch, especially nice whilst lying round the lovely pool - we all cheered when he arrived one afternoon! During the day we often went to the Bamboo Beach Club that is just round the corner from the villa, and rented either a sun lounger or cabana. As the beach club is also located on the Mammee Bay Estate residents of L'Horizon have free entry to the club and 15% discount on water sports, food, drinks etc. A nice alternative to the pool. Close by there is plenty of duty free shopping as well as Dunns River Falls and Mystic Mountain - don't need to book a tour just get a cab and your there. Or pop down to Island Village - loads of shopping, food and live music. Try Ocean on a sunday night for a boogie and very strong rum cocktail! The staff really make your holiday amazing, they can't do enough for you and nothing was to much trouble. The owner Barrington was very helpful during the whole booking process and our stay was even better than expected. Cant wait to go back with all my children and their partners next time as they will love it and its big enough not to get under each others feet!
