About Mary Kraft
Settlers Mountain was created to share the wonderful Great Smoky Mountains with friends and family. What started as a personal retreat turned into a family enterprise. Bert and Mildred Kraft loved the mountains and its local people so they settled in Bryson City and built Settlers Mountain (circa 1959). Bert, being a very industrious person with the love of architecture, built the homes on the mountain and refurbished a hand-hewn chestnut log cabin built in the 1840's, one of only five left in the area. Settlers Mountain is owned and operated by the Kraft Family and is enjoyed by five generations of Kraft’s. We welcome you to make Settlers Mountain your retreat and create a lifetime of memories. The Kraft Family
Mary Kraft purchased this Cabin in 1959

We had a great time. Loved the cabin!
As always, Richard and Karen were very helpful and friendly. Everything was great!
This was a wonderful and cozy cabin with such character and history. My husband and I loved our stay with our two dogs. It was comfortable and clean, and we had a fire in the fireplace each day. Our other family members rented the other cabins and it was a perfect situation for our Thanksgiving holiday. The grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed our trip into Bryson City. We will definitely stay here again - the Log Cabin is our favorite. Thank you for your great hospitality.
Great romantic getaway
We had an amazing trip for my birthday. It was chilly outside so we kept a fire going and it was great. The cabin was very clean and rustic. The only issue we encountered was wasps. We had to kill 2 and found 3 others dead. Other than that, the cabin and trip was awesome. We would definitely go back!!!
We had a three night stay at the cabin and being from the deep south, I was thrilled to be able to utilize the fireplace. There was plenty of firewood available to us, but we found that starting off with a prefab log made the fire easier to get going. The kitchen was cozy and we enjoyed a cabin breakfast every morning. The only drawback for us was the ladder like access to the bedroom loft. Overall, it met all of our expectations and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
A few days to reflect on.
Our reason for coming to Settlers Mountain was the ability to relax and refresh our spirits. The descriptions given in the documentation we received was right on. The log cabin was rustic and in ways a little uncomfortable until we got used to it, about an hour. It was great to live partially in the past and still be in this time frame. Anyway, our goal was to see the Smoky Mountains and enjoy the natural habitat in that area. We did not have to go far to accomplish our goal.
Daily walks on the paths and trails, breathing the pure mountain air, listening to the birds chirping right on our porch set us up for an experience we will never forget. Even our two dogs seemed to be more relaxed and less hyper than usual.
We spent one day in Bryson City, walking through the shops and streets. The people overall were very friendly and helpful. We had lunch and a busy restaurant and were not rushed when we wanted to extend our stay to watch the people walking by. As for the town itself, well it is a typical touristy town, but it has a lot going for it including a train and train museum.
Overall, we came away from our trip very refreshed and relaxed. Would we do it again, definitely. Would like to stay in some of the other cabins in the future.
We were well pleased with the log cabin and area. This was a very peaceful and relaxing vacation for us! Will definitely come again!
