We had a wonderful long weekend at the Old Chapel in Cornwall. The location was perfect — peaceful, quiet, and only a short walk from the sea. The accommodation itself was surprisingly large, beautifully converted, and incredibly relaxing. It was exactly the kind of break we needed. Highly recommended for anyone looking to unwind by the coast.

The Old Chapel is certainly a super building and suited our family get together, which included mine and my brother's families (2 Teenagers and 2 Children), perfectly.The building is old and obviously takes a lot of upkeep- some things are tired - but the bedding, towels etc. were pristine and beds really comfortable.Booking and communication with the host was excellent. Ceri was really accommodating with our dates and so helpful.The price paid for the rental, at the start of the school holidays particularly, was really good value.The location of the property is convenient to the beach and Tintagel. It is possible to walk to the beach, my husband and I ran there a couple of times. There are a couple of nice places to eat near the beach too.Overall I'd recommend this lovely, quirky holiday rental (but don't expect the ritz) and really friendly, accommodating host.Many thanks and best wishes to Ceri and future holiday makers

Guests come to the Old Chapel time and time again for the relaxed feel of a beach house in an unusual and historic building. The provision is simple in that there's no underfloor heating, air conditioning or interior designed lighting system. However, every detail is provided for including WiFi, Sonos surround sound system, a well stocked kitchen for accomplished cooks, 2 fridges, 1 freezer, barbecue, mocha pot & milk frother for the most discerning coffee lover. It's a case of simple things can bring much happiness and relaxation. The ritz it is not.

Beautiful and cosy cottage. We had a wonderful time and the hosts were excellent. The fireplace made for the perfect setting to ring in the New Year, and the quiet surroundings were exactly the escape we needed. The thoughtful welcome touches from the hosts really made us feel at home. We’d love to come back!

Wonderful stay at for birthday trip

A wonderful stay at The Old Chapel to celebrate a big 7-0 birthday, and explore the local sights with 3 generations. A beautiful, spacious, quirky and quaint accommodation, perfect for the family get together. The Old Chapel is a really special place. We had such a wonderful time both in the property and in the surrounding area! The open plan living area makes it perfect for large groups, and the bedrooms and bathrooms are quirky and fun! We have made memories here that will last a lifetime 😊

We had a great time for my 50th birthday in this house. Plenty of room to celebrate, lovely pubs within walking distance and also close to the beach and beautiful coastal walks. A fabulous weekend.

Outstanding property and hosts

The Chapel is the most unique and wonderful holiday home. Ceri is a brilliant host and went the extra mile to make sure we enjoyed our stay in Cornwall. The beds were comfortable and the house was exceptionally clean but also very cosy which made relaxing possible. I highly recommend this property as a base for exploring Cornwall.

New Years Stay

The old chapel is a fantastic building with plenty of room for a group of 10. The road outside can be busy. There are plenty of easy walks to and along the coastal path.

The house is situated on a trunk rd between tintagel and camelford. On the occasion that there is heavier traffic this can not be heard from the living space so does not disturb or detract from the enjoyment of the space and the peaceful back garden with field views.

We had a pleasant stay at the spacious and well-maintained house. The garden and hot tub were definite highlights, providing a relaxing atmosphere. However, the downside was the non-functional Wi-Fi and lack of phone reception in the area, which made communication challenging during my stay.

The lack of WiFi was an unfortunate glitch with BT and outside of our control. The WiFi is usually good and has been rectified. There is no phone signal at Trebarwith Beach, but signal at the house is good. The lack of WiFi would have affected WhatsApp & email, but not text & phone communication.

Old Chapel in Trewarmett

Wow what a lovely place to stay. Loads of room for all 9 of us. Terrific communal space & everything we needed. Great communication altho we didn’t need to as we had everything we needed. Every window had a beautiful scene. We went to trewsrmett bst every day & how picturesque which was perfect for body boarding & a pint at the pub at the top. Wouldn’t hesitate to return!

Relaxing family get away

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this unique old property. From the large entrance hall where everyone could kick off their shoes. On the ground floor was a family bathroom. And also another small bathroom with a washing machine - but nowhere to hang towels. Stairs up to the first floor led to the large living space with comfy sofas, large dining table, and step up to kitchen. The additional fridge and freezer was useful. And it was lovely to go into the small back garden from the kitchen, and watch sheep grazing. However the step down from kitchen to garden was a little hazardous, especially when using the oven or dishwasher which were either side, and you could forget there was a step! Overall the space worked well, the panoramic countryside views were fabulous and we all had a happy and memorable time.

Yes I agree, the building is definitely quirky with steps and light switches in unusual places. The balustrade in the garden, radiators in every room and hooks on the back of doors we find sufficient for our towel needs. Really glad you had a lovely time and hope we can welcome you back someday.

Great space for a large family group

We stayed over Christmas and had a really lovely time. We were made up of three families - 6 adults and 4 children aged 14, 12, 8 and 4. Unfortunately, we stayed during a stormy few days so it was very foggy which obscured the fabulous views, and as one of the gorgeous chapel windows was loose in the frame the constant high winds forced it to mov further and further down in its frame as the days wore on making it quite drafty and very noisy with the high winds at night (two beds are in the mezzanine level of the lounge). However, the property offered space and flexibility and the two separate spaces meant we could all escape each other if we needed some time to ourselves. The table was perfect for the 10 of us and Xmas dinner, and my husband managed to cook up a feast in the kitchen (although a microwave would have been useful at times). The garden was small but lovely with great views and the weather allowed for a BBQ it would have been perfect. We hired a hot tub also which was lovely, although there was not outside light so the wet decking was a bit treacherous in the dark. We drove the 1 mile to the local bay and had a drink in the pub which was really lovely on Boxing Day. Sadly, due to the extremely stormy weather we didn’t have the chance to go out other than that, but what we saw when driving around was beautiful. Lots of well stocked shops nearby aswell which was handy. Ceri was great in the run up and contactable during our stay if needed. We’ll be back!

The open plan living area is unique and wonderful - a fabulous place to host a large group. The views down to Trebarwith bay are incredible. A few comments to help improve for future guests. The joining instructions still refer to rules during Covid(!). An accompanying email said checkin/out times are different than in the attachment, but it would take 2 mins to update them and create a better 1st impression. We realised when leaving that a spare set of keys were absent. Sofa detaches into 3 sections (the other one is robust though). As large groups be good to have a large saucepan, cheese grater etc. Much anticipated 'on-site arcade and game room' was a bit misleading: (table football but without a ball - found it as we were leaving under a very dusty wardrobe!). When cleaning on departure behind sofa cushions revealed sweets from prior guests, string bracelets. Sleeping arrangements - 2 of the doubles are on the mezzanine. While 1 has amazing views, the tricky height access can challenge if you are getting on a bit - & as both loos on ground floor it's 2 flights of stairs to negotiate if needed! I really don't want to detract from an amazing house and location - it is good value and a truly stunning area. We have rented dozens of properties over the years and love a bit of rustic charm - but a decent clean and some running repairs, few more utensils etc would have made this a 5*. Thanks

Helen and her family were a joy to host. We worked together to reschedule and adjust their holiday due to the pandemic and changes to their group during that time. Super week in the Old Chappel

Super stay and what a great large space for 2 x 4 family’s plus 2 dogs. A huge living room , wooden fire , dining table with a mezzanine above with 2 small bedrooms which in our case the children used. A slight concern that the property is right on the main road and a fear of kids / dogs running out but interior doors in addition to the exterior doors should mitigate this circumstance. The location is fabulous with a beautiful beach / cove 15 mins walk / 3 mins in the car ( parking available ) away. Good communication with Ceri ( the owner) before and after our stay and she was helpful throughout. A fabulous holiday , great property & great location. Steve

Improvements needed at Chapel

Great position near to our favourite beach. We felt the bathrooms needed improvements. Also the bedrooms downstairs needed more cupboards/ drawers as there was little space to put belongings. The big wardrobe outside the rooms you couldn’t open the drawers as they were stuck. Mezzanine bedrooms are not big enough for 2 adults and there is nowhere to put any clothes. We realise the chapel is very old but feel it does need improvements if it is let for holidays. Also more plugs are needed for bedside lighting. We had to use extension leads which is dangerous with kids around who may trip over them.

We have styled this property as vintage and quirky and feel it is appropriately furnished. If you are looking for modern/new build style accommodation then this property won’t be for you. We love the character of this old building and stripping it out and replacing features would alter that considerably. We work with a high end and professional cleaning company who leave everything spotless for your stay. It’s an old chapel and not everyone understands that. The information & photos we list on this site describes everything as it is. Anyone looking to book is very welcome to ask as many questions as they like before and after booking.

Quirky but lots and lots of lovely space

If you plan to visit Cornwall with a large group or family The Old Chapel is a lovely quirky place to stay. With Trebarwith Strand just 4 minutes drive away and minutes from Tintagel and the A39 (Atlantic Highway) the north coast is easy to reach. The accommodation layout is odd but that added to the charm and the main living space is vast giving everyone plenty of space to chill out. The decking out the back is a great place for a morning coffee in the rising sun.

Its impossible to show guests what the lay out is like as it is very unusual, but we display clear photos and description of the property. We make every effort to engage with our guests in the weeks before their trip and provide ample opportunity for them to ask any questions as well as providing information on what they may need to bring with them. Great family & friends property

We spent a week at the funky old chapel 31st July. There was 2 families in our party and there was plenty of room for us all. The main room is a fantastic room with amazing views over the countryside and sea. It has everything you need for a self catering stay. The location is fab with the beach just a couple of minutes drive away, Tintagel just over 2 miles and Port Isaac and Bude about 30 minutes away. Ceri was a fantastic host and answered every question I had. A great Staycation was had by all. Thankyou

Good value for money

Was a lovely place but not really suitable for 9+ people as very little privacy. Only 2 bedrooms are separate. However excellent value for money

It is clear from the photos and the description of the property that 2 of the bedrooms are sleeping lofts above the living room. You had the opportunity to ask questions before your visit but you chose not to disclose the purpose of your trip. You had hired another property up there road in addition and used our property as a base for up to 20 of you. It’s no wonder you felt short on space. Had you engaged before hand I could have told you that the house can sleep up to 10, but for a single sex group it is feasible for 7. At the time your group also broke Covid rules of habitation in a holiday property. You say we provide good value for money and yet when asked on leaving to pay a further £50 for the mess left behind you declined. This is a much loved property and we always want our guests to get the most out of their stay. We are always happy to receive constructive feedback and adjust our service accordingly. These comments are disappointing and not our usual guest review.

Great Quirky Family space

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Chapel, including the baptism shower! It is a very special space making it perfect for wonderful family time away. Fab location too!

North Cornwall offers such a wide variety of outdoor activities for families & friends. Large flat beaches, rock pooling, surfing, paddle boarding, coastal walks, pub lunches. The array of beaches within a 30 min drive offer something for everyone. We have explored the local area and offer a guide at the property as to our best picks of places to eat and activities in all weathers.

Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial

This is a very special & old property full of charm & character. Many of the items within the house reflect this and are vintage rather than brand new. Everything is tastefully done and is in excellent working order. Whatever the weather there is plenty of space for everyone, young & old. Two parking spaces are available in the garage. Further cars can be parked in a lay by 200m away.
