Thank you Jackie for your review. We are so pleased you like the cottage and had a good stay in our rural location. Lovely it is rural but only 20 minutes to Exeter.
Just such a thoughtful accommodation, with rural charm and peace. Perfect for enjoying being right in the country and for a much needed relaxing break. With it's enclosed garden and beyond it was perfect for all of us, including our dog.

Thank you so much for your kind review, it was great to meet you and so pleased you enjoyed the cottage, everything on offer and the surrounding land.
We spent two weeks at the cottage and enjoyed our stay there immensely. From the very start Vicky and Nick were responsive and helpful and always on hand with whatever we needed. The cottage is really lovely. Beautifully maintained and wonderfully well equipped. Clean, spacious and comfortable. The setting is wonderful too. We really were lacking for nothing and would recommend this beautiful cottage without hesitation. Thank you for making our stay so relaxing and so enjoyable.

Thank you so much Adena, we really appreciate your lovely review of the cottage and all that we have on offer here on site. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and had everything you needed for a home away from home. It was great to meet you all and hope to welcome you again one day.
The cottage is lovely, spotlessly clean and with everything you could need. There is a local farm shop and the site itself also has a selection of items - beers, wine, soft drinks, soap, cards etc - which you take on an "honesty" basis and settle up on departure. Vicky, Nick and the dogs were great hosts - there if we needed anything. We visited local areas and the local pub which was lovely. We also used the hidden tubhouse which was fun! A perfect get away!

Thanks so much for your review Carolyn, we are pleased you had a lovely stay in the cottage and enjoyed the surrounding area & all we have to offer on site.
The cottage was welcoming, we felt instantly at home. Between the community shop, the farm shop and the Ring of Bells, we had everything we needed. With a high energy Collie and a disabled dog, being able to go straight out into the meadow first thing was a treat. What a meadow, the sweet smell, variety of plants and many butterflies were such a delight. The whole property was very thoughtfully developed with a green ethos. The activity area and games room were great fun. Thanks to Vicky for all the chat and best wishes.

Nestled in the Devon countryside a gorgeous little retreat. Greeted by lovely host Vicky . Stayed in Apple Tree cottage very comfortable and clean with everything we needed .. had our own garden with bbq and fire pit which was great for our dog to run around in and also the use of the woods and meadow. Vicky arranged for a morning yoga session for me which I did in the meadow it was lovely ... little on site shop where we bought pizza and ice cream. There is an outside bath house tucked away in the woods which is a must do we loved it. We based ourselves here and travelled to Lime Regis and Tintagel so ideal if you want to visit the neighbouring counties as the Devon area. Very peaceful we slept like logs and will definitely be going again !!

Thanks so much Louise, such a lovely review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. Was great to do Yoga in the meadow and next time you can have a massage too. Brilliant you relaxed at the cottage and had all you needed, plus were able to explore the county and beyond. The perfect holiday. See you again!
Our stay at the Orchard Retreat far exceeded our expectations. From the fabulous accommodation and amenities, to the well-curated on-site shop with local treats and goodies, our time here was amazing. Let's not forget our hosts though (and their cute dogs). Vicky, Nick and Maddy were so welcoming and charming. The retreat is great if you're looking to explore Devon, and is perfectly positioned between the north and south coasts. There's also a truly delicious pub and farm shop within walking distance. Would highly recommend this gem.

The play area and Gallery kept the children entertained and they made friends with others staying on the site. It was a great base to explore the beautiful Devon countryside and the hosts were lovely. We had a fabulous time. We’ll be back.

We had a wonderful two weeks at Appletree Cottage, the location is lovely, the cottage immaculate and Nick, Vicky, Maddie, Moon Dog and Arlo were fab hosts!
The facilities are great and it's the little things that make a real difference here, the first time we have ever visited a property that had everything we really needed. The farm is a great base in mid Devon to explore the local area with Tiverton and Crediton near by and bigger towns like Exeter within 45 minutes drive. We will be back!

A gem of a find, we can’t wait to return for another stay!
Throughout our whole stay, all we kept saying was how beautiful the cottage is, how clean it is and what a little gem we had stumbled across! Everything was perfect and so well thought through. The owners were most helpful and accommodating. This is by far the best holiday home we have ever had the joy of staying at and we are already looking at our diary to plan another stay, but this time bringing the whole family! Thank you Vicky and Nick!

Excellent location, exceptionally clean and comfortable for us and our puppy. So good,we rebooked !
We loved the location ...so close to Exeter ...whilst nestled within beautiful Devon countryside. The immediate farmland is a real treat for walks and much appreciated by our puppy. Loved the apple juice and cider provided and next time we will be sourcing more local treats. This cottage is a real find. Looking forward to returning many times to both cottages on site.

Quiet cottage in a beautiful setting
A restful, beautiful setting, (a bit remote so roads were challenging for us but that's because we are not used to one-lane tracks and 10ft hedges!) Friendly and helpful proprietors. The cottage is a cosy open plan space that is comfortable and light, despite it being January. The windows in the bedrooms are skylights, so if you like to sleep with a window open, not an option - especially in January - but that's a minor thing. They are dog friendly.

Thank you so much for your review, we are pleased you found the cottage comfortable and restful, as well as being in a lovely setting. Great to hear. We are so lucky that we have so much further land to offer our guests when they stay - great for dog walking as well. For future reference, although the bedroom windows are skylights, they do open if required. You use the pole that opens and closes the black out blinds to open the windows as well. We know what you mean, compared to most major roads the lanes of Devon can seem a bit narrow - thankfully there are plenty of passing places and generally drivers are pretty respectful of other cars on the roads. We were pleased to help you when required and it was great to meet you all.

A lovely, quiet and quaint countryside cottage.
We loved our stay. Four of us stayed for New Years. The place was perfect and very cosy. It had everything we needed and a well equipped kitchen. The pub is so close and just perfect for a quaint countryside experience. Vicky and Nick were really great hosts. Very relaxed about any requests and quick to respond. I would definitely recommend. Oh and the outdoor bath was a great experience too! (You will need a car).

Absolutely beautiful property in a lovely place.
We stayed in Apple tree cottage with our 2 small children and dog during the October half term. The cottage was beautiful and very spacious. A very comfortable stay for a week's holiday. It had every thing we needed and in such a lovely location. We enjoyed walking around the surrounding land and the boys loved the tree house and play area. The owners were lovely and very helpful when we needed their assistance. We would and will be recommending this beautiful place to everyone. Thank you Vicky and Nick . We really hope to visit again in the future.

Peaceful, Welcoming & Comfortable
The only downside to our week in this lovely cottage in such a beautiful location, was the one day of light rain in a week of, otherwise perfect, hot sunshine & blue skies! We were so lucky to pick this week in May that turned out to be the turning point in Spring temperatures, but even if the weather hadn't been so perfect, Apple Tree Cottage & Orchard Retreat had plenty of home comforts and entertainment options to keep us well occupied. Books, DVD's and games were all available, plus the new Badminton court & table tennis are really going to be a hit with future guests.
This tranquil streamside setting, with the fantastic fields to wander through, admiring the trees and complete carpet of Wild Garlic was just idyllic, Barney really loved his morning walk and often a quick catch up with his new mate, Moon.
Apple Tree Cottage is beautifully appointed with a well equipped kitchen, plus the sharpest knives we have ever experienced in a holiday cottage, such a relief to be able to slice tomatoes without squashing them!! Comfy sofas, quality beds and a huge bathroom were all icing on the cake, not forgetting the barbecue, which was well used during our week here!
The on site micro shop is a real boon, we made purchases of the delicious local ground coffee, which since we had forgotten to pack any, was a real life saver! Plus really good local charcoal, which was great for the first impromptu barbecue and for the next 3! Next time we hope to make use of the on site wood fired pizza oven!
Vicky, Nick, Maddy & Moon all gave us an enthusiastic & friendly welcome, we felt at home from the word go & thank you so much for the welcome goodies, such a lovely thought, (your home produced apple juice was really delicious).
We hope we can stay at Orchard Retreat again soon, the location is great, easy access to Exeter, the coast and all the lovely woodland & forest walking in Mid Devon. Bickleigh Mill is well worth a wander around & there are numerous National Trust Properties within easy reach. Castle Drogo with it's fabulous views and fantastic access to the Fingle Bridge Gorge walk, much of it alongside the river, is a must and the added bonus is the Café at Drogo serves really good snacks & meals. A visit to Tiverton to walk the towpath or catch a horse drawn boat along the Grand Western Canal, with it's ducks, swans & wildlife is a really great way to while away a few hours.
Thank you all so much for making our stay so great, Nicky, Terry & Barney

We would love to welcome you both and Barney again, Moon really did take to him - so sweet to see them playing. Have a lovely summer, lets hope the sun stays out, it is just so lovely!

Cosy Cottage in a beautiful location!
We stayed in the cider cottage for 3 nights on a girls walking/getaway break. Vicky was super friendly and more than happy to help with anything we needed. The cottage was a brilliant size with 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms, one being an on suite. The cottage was cosy and had a lovely wood burner which heated the cottage. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need. I would highly recommend staying here as there were absolutely no downfalls from the property to the location to the owners!!
Fabulous visit Vicky, thank you!

Great cottage, beautiful location, friendly owners
Stayed here while visiting my daughter at Exeter uni. The cottage was very comfortable for three of us and our cat and dog. Adjacent paddock for walking the dog was perfect, given the lack of public footpaths/paths along the narrow Devon lanes. The countryside is picture perfect - rolling hills as far as the eye can see. The cottage had everything we needed. We stayed in Feb and it was lovely and warm. Highly recommended

About the host
Hosted by Vicky & Nick Ritchens
Having spent many years being lucky enough to live & travel abroad, my husband & I realised we wanted to base ourselves in the UK.
Devon became a favourite of ours, with its rolling countryside & proximity to the coast. Plus having family here, meant it was the perfect place to move & begin our dream of running holiday cottages.
We fell in love with UK holidays, having stayed in lots of holiday cottages.
As soon as we saw it, we realised East Forde Farm was the place to do this and to share it with guests, who love it as much as we do, is just perfect.
We have been running it since 2014 and we are so lucky to have gained 5* reviews across all platforms. The site has evolved and improved as the years have gone by, which has been helped by our guests and their wonderful feedback.
You really can get back to nature here, relax and unwind whilst exploring Devon.
We look forward to welcoming you here soon. Vicky, Nick, Maddy & Moon & Arlo the dogs!
Why they chose this property
We love the area as only 20 minutes from Exeter and its wealth of shops, restaurants, University & nightlife. But we are set in a rural area, surrounded by beautiful Devon countryside and on our doorstep is a farm shop, great local pub and village shop.
What makes this property unique
We have stayed in many holiday cottages, but to stay where you not only have a private garden but access to 15 acres of varied land is something really special.
With a wood, a mature apple orchard, meadows, streams and pathways joining them all together - East Forde Farm really is a destination in itself.
