BEAUTIFUL home in a pristine old lava field! Very successful B&B for 4 years. Ocean 10 minute walk. A+ Stargazing! Currently can see the glow of lava flows in the distance. A unique place to unwind & enjoy the serenity of Hawaii. Wonderful place for relaxation. A short drive to all the local attractions in Puna, including the lava flows that began May 2018. This is definitely one of the nicest houses in this unique neighborhood, and all 5 stars!
**Update: Volcano National Park to reopen Sept. 22nd!
After months of lava eruptions, its finally calmed down. Vacation rentals in our neighborhood resumed July 5th. While there was much volcanic activity in certain areas of Puna, here in Kalapana its been calm. The volcano has been continuously erupting along this zone since 1985, and changes everyday so we never can predict what will happen. The main eruptions were in Leilani neighborhood about 11 miles away, have subdued for now & were very localized threatening our area of Kalapana where our Blue Lava Oasis is. Also it cannot go uphill, if it were to continue, it would flow further northeast towards the ocean not southwest to us. So we are in the safe zone! The County is currently setting up "public lava viewing plans" & if you search that phrase online you can find updates. You can sometimes see the lava glow from our home- which is something else! Here is a recent review from AirBnB from July 20th guests.
"Such an extraordinary experience! The drive to the house alone was so neat, there was steam coming up on the side of the road from the current lava flow (everything was super safe), the old lava flow signs, and of course once you get close to the house and start driving on the old lava fields that the house is on is just out of this world. The house is one of the nicest in the neighborhood and super adorable. It was clean, had wide open spaces, and just perfect for my husband and myself and our toddler. We had a good time with some of the nearby attractions but loved that it was pretty close to the main roads that will take you to either side of the island. We love to drive around and explore so that was perfect. We also could not believe how neat it was to see the lava glow at night and stars were great!! All in all we had a really great and adventurous trip and we are already planning on coming back real soon! "
If you are looking for a 'one of a kind' BnB, this it! This home was crafted with LOVE & truly a GEM! One of the biggest & nicest houses in this unique neighborhood. Has been a very successful B&B for 2 years.
You and your family can get the entire house to enjoy!!!!!
Raw elemental experience of Fire & Water. This home sits within a unique and powerful environment. Nature invites you to connect in a profound way. The Spirit of Aloha is definitely here! Swaying palm trees, views of lava flow fields, rainbows, moonbows and expansive starlit nights are a continual part of the living experience. When the lava flows, it sometimes is within walking distance of our home, but otherwise a drive up the mountain. Ocean is a 10 minute walk with view from top lanai.
If you can, make sure to come on Wednesday so as not to miss the weekly Uncle Robert's market party. If you wish to experience the authentic side of the Island, this is were you need to go. Have a mai tai, dance to an ukulele band, check out the 40+ vendors, and savor a few local dishes. Don't miss a visit to the black sand beach behind the market! This market is just 1.5 miles from the house, around the corner!
*High speed Wi-Fi internet in entire house
*Spacious Master Suite on 2nd floor – Huge bathtub for two with lots of windows for stunning views!
*2 BRs downstairs suitable for 2 couples or kids.
*Nice modern kitchen with native wood & stone lava countertops.
*Front lanai with sunrise/sunset views as well as few other patios.

Puna region updates ::
Welcome to the Big Island of Hawaii! Some things have changed since the 3 months of lava flows May-August 2018. We recommend you check out the following:
- Take a Lava Boat tour. They leave out of Hilo. You'll see fresh lava, our beautiful coast, our new beaches and maybe even our new warm pond. There's a chance you'll even be treated to a visit by dolphins.
- Book A tour! Search online & you can find many cool lava & historical tours of hte region!
-Visit Pahoa! Locals will tell you where to see the 2014 flow, right in Pahoa! You'll find good food, a quaint town, interesting local art and creations and really nice people. In Pahoa go to the solid Waste Transfer Station. You can see the lava flow that almost cut off lower Puna from the rest of the island, literally coming to a halt in the middle of a metal fence at the border of the Pahoa Waste Transfer Station! Lucky it stopped there! That lava rock is from the 2014 flow. You can also try going down to Kalapana where you can see other recent flowsIf your dog lovers, they are always looking for volunteers to walk and play with the animals! You can even adopt one if your so inclined! Our local artist and creator of the island, Pele', is redecorating and improving right now. Her plans are a secret, known only to her. We are all anxiously awaiting, her finished work. We never disturb her when she is visiting, she can get a bit hot about things.
-When you leave Pahoa, take a drive up Hwy. 11. It's very pretty and has some great views! Please obey the warning signs as there are a few cracks in the road. Pay a visit to the town of Volcano. Fun shopping and great merchandise. Volcano's has a great winery !
*For same day bookings, check-in is only available at 6 pm.
*This is a sacred place & we are seeking to attract respectful people who really appreciate what this place offers. A comfortable healing sanctuary after the days sightseeing. We ask for quiet hours as much as possible 10pm-8am to be considerate of our neighbors. Of course if you want to drink & socialize & enjoy your vacation thats your choice, just be respectful to the quiet neighborhood please.
*Also note: the master bedroom is located upstairs & has open hallway top of stairs with no bedroom door, in other words, not the most private. Considering the below rooms with locking doors will be where your friends/family are in their rooms, then it becomes private. Just wanting to make that clear so as not to get any critical reviews about those things later. We aim to build an enclosed wall & add nice Bali temple door there in the near future to create even more privacy upstairs. Also, the Jacuzzi Tub up there CANNOT have jets running as we are having extreme power usage with those & definitely cannot use at this time with 100% Solar. Very lovely room in a very lovely house though I must say!
Since we are new owners that recently listed this, we have cut & pasted reviews from previous guests from last owners:
"This place was incredible! It provided exactly the kind of 'off-the-grid' physical and mental escape we were looking for when booking. If you're looking for space to escape the 'default world' and connect with the natural beauty of the Big Island, look no further!" (Joe)
"Beautiful, tranquil remote. We loved being off the grid. everything we needed and was very lovely! We would stay there again!:) " (Anna)
