About Tona Goering
I am the 6th generation of pioneers who settled in the Unaweep Canyon and Gateway areas of Mesa County. My husband was born and raised in a Mennonite farming community in Kansas. We met and married young and began our great adventure. We've lived and moved every few years, following construction, forest service, and reclamation work-while raising four children. We settled here 10 years ago and started a family-owned and operated excavation business, employing each of our four grown children at one time or another. We have loved traveling overseas and locally, helping with humanitarian missions when business allowed. We built this house as a "spec" home when I got the urge to work on my design and decorating skills. My husband got the dubious pleasure of performing the grunt work involved in creating this sanctuary. When the economy took a downturn we couldn't sell, so we got to enjoy utilizing this property as a hub for hospitality, celebrating family events and reunions. When we discovered the advantages and fun of private vacation rentals the past few years with our families, it seemed to be the natural progression to add our little "resort" to the list of great places to stay. We love it!
Tona Goering purchased this Villa in 2007
Why Tona Goering chose Fruita
We have lived in extremely cold high mountain areas and in the heat of the desert. Fruita's mostly temperate climate enticed us as a good place to retire, eventually. And most important, our grand children are here. We have only spent 18 months of our 41 year marriage living in town, so this 3 acre property at the edge of town and with the extensive "rural" views it offered was the perfect compromise.
What makes this Villa unique
The property feels completely secluded, but offers the benefit of living near wonderful neighbors. The ever-changing views of the Monument never cease to amaze me. The wide open skies to the southeast are limitless and give the feeling of complete privacy in some of the most scenic country in the world. Deer, foxes, coyotes, and even a mountain lion have made their presence known, but never threatened our safety. Every sunrise, every sunset, every cloudy or clear sky is remarkable. The house is wonderful, but the outdoor area constantly draws me out to see and experience its' diversity.

Fabulous home with lovely hosts
This house is great for families and has a truly spectacular view and outdoor area. The owners are lovely and take impeccable care of the property. Other reviews on here capture the home very well, so I won’t repeat - such a relaxing and beautiful place!
Thank you for your great review. I’m so happy you enjoyed your stay.
Amazing - Perfect
We had a large family Thanksgiving gathering at this Amazingly - Perfect Home for our family. We are making plans for next year's Thanksgiving to stay at this Amazingly - Perfect Home.
Thank you for your review and your visit. We will look forward to hosting your family again.
High end property in a great location.
Luxury home with a tremendous view of the Redland Mesa cliffs. Quiet and peaceful neighborhood just 15 minutes from downtown Grand Junction.
Perfect GJ Getaway
I was very impressed with this property and it exceeded my expectations. The hosts were extremely accommodating and courteous. A few things I found extremely helpful: the property is beautiful with lots of fun amenities (fire pit, bbq, pool, hot tub, horseshoe), ample towels and linens, good quality bath products available in each bathroom, full kitchen with supplies and equipment. The location is very easy to access and close to downtown GJ and Fruita. The only suggestion I have for the hosts is to share a few more check-ins and check-out instructions through VBRO. When I rented the property it just said "contact host for instructions" I really appreciated the in-person meeting and walk-through of the home (I hope they keep doing that) but once they left, there were items I forgot to ask about. Thus it would be helpful to have a guide/instructions in VBRO that you can always refer back to instead of having to trouble the host each time. The wifi isn't the strongest signal in the area so it would also be helpful to have tips and instructions written down vs. emailing hosts. As I said before this is a beautiful home and I highly recommend the property and hosts.
Thank you for your helpful review. We will try to get more pertinent info into this site for our guests.
We are so sorry about the WiFi service. We currently have the very best (and expensive) service available. It is a source of huge concern for our neighborhood that this is the best we can obtain, when just a mile away, there is great WiFi. We’re trying!
We are pleased that you enjoyed your visit.
The whole experience was wonderful. Amazing views and the pool was perfect!
Fruita is a quirky combination of rural agriculture and agri-tourism and newly emerging fat tire biking Mecca, catering to outdoor adventure enthusiasts. Brew pubs and wineries abound in entire Grand Valley area, which is built up around the merging of the Colorado and Gunnison Rivers. Winter time activities can be accessed by a 45 minute drive to Grand Mesa and the Powderhorn Ski Resort. Summer activities are limitless: mountain and desert trails for biking, hiking, and horseback riding, Colorado River rafting, dinosaur excavations, lavender, wine, and peach festivals, Mike the Headless Chicken celebrations, astounding scenery including red rock canyons, high mountain forests, and Grand Mesa-the highest flat top mountain in the US. There is a concrete bike and walking trail system that can be accessed right up the lane that connects Fruita to Palisade and Loma along the Colorado Riverfront, with developing outdoor entertainment and adventures along the route in Grand Junction. Old west pioneering is still visible and active within ranching communities. Please access the Fruita, Grand Junction, and Palisade Chambers of Commerce for updates and info on extensive festival and events in area. Easy access to eastern Utah and western Colorado unique canyon lands.
