This waterfront beach house is a great escape. Breathe in the fresh air of the forest to the back of the house and the Puget Sound to the front. Listen to the waves splash onto the shore or the water trickle down the forested hillside. You are sure to love this beach house! (PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS HOME REQUIRES A SHORT WALK FROM THE PARKING AREA, SEE BELOW)

The views are absolutely amazing. You see views from every room: Mt. Rainier, Point Defiance, south end of Vashon Island, the Vashon-Tacoma ferry route, the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, and Commencement Bay. It is located on the south end of Colvos Passage, just an easy 5 minute drive from Gig Harbor’s downtown and marina. Gig Harbor is a perfectly charming town with several parks and a historic waterfront that includes boutiques, coffee shops, dining, and marina.

This 1925 beach house has all the charm of a cabin with comforts of home. Step right out the front door onto the huge deck equipped with chairs, benches, and a barbecue. Relax with a cocktail or book, watch maritime traffic, or keep a look out for seals, birds, otters, sea lions, and even whales. Stairs from the deck lead directly to the sand and small rock beach below. At high tide the water meets the bulkhead below the deck and you feel like you are on a houseboat. At low tide you are able to walk the beach to collect shells and rocks.

The house is walking distance from Sunrise Beach Park which is said to be one of the best shore dives in Puget Sound. The main feature of this site is a 25 foot high rock wall that runs parallel to the shoreline. The top of the wall starts at about 35 fsw with the base at about 60 fsw. The wall is full of cracks, crevices, fissures and holes which are hiding places for a plethora of curious critters.

There is an open living room, dining area, and kitchen which makes it feel spacious and comfortable. One bedroom with a queen bed is in the main house. There is also a queen size sleeper sofa in the living room that is easy to assemble. The second bedroom which holds a full size bed and twin trundle bed is across the path from the house in the “bunkhouse”. The bunkhouse is tucked directly behind the main house, and too has a water view, however does not have a bathroom. The bunkhouse is probably not the right place for younger children to sleep without an adult, however would be comfortable and safe for adults and older children.

ATTENTION: The secluded Sunrise Beach neighborhood which consists of about 20 waterfront homes, was originally only reached by boat/ferry. Today there is a road and path that brings you to the homes. To reach our house you park on the road above and walk on a waterfront pathway about the length of one city block. It is worth the walk!

The view from the house is fantastic. Big water-front windows, and a great deck to hang out on. You look straight across to Mount Rainier, which fades and comes back to spectacular view depending on the weather. At night I believe the ribbon of lights is Tacoma, and New Tacoma. Lots of seals, sea lions, fish and birds coming and going, the occasional pleasure or fishing boat, so that was visually interesting. The tides raised and fell 4 times a day, 17 feet difference, so sometimes there was beach, other times the water was close to the deck, it was constantly changing and engaging. We felt a real respect for the power of nature, and the living, breathing nature of the Puget Sound. We got to the property as the sun was setting, which happened quickly as it was mid-November, and a bit rainy. Our young-adult kids struck out to find the place, like mini-detectives, as we waited with the car, unsure where to go. In the day light the directions to the home make more sense, but in the dark it was tricky to find. Krista, and the property management team, were both very responsive as soon as we contacted them, much appreciated. As we were zeroing in on the place, they were responding with texts, actually, it was kind of a fun adventure for the family! Once in the house, we were delighted with everything, and the various neighbors over the weekend were friendly and super nice. Family chickens and kitties watched from porches as we came and went, it was a quiet, homey stretch of cottages, made us happy. Kind of blissful, really. The beds at the house and bunkhouse (second, separate bedroom) were comfortable, the kitchen and family area were open and inviting, and the large windows overlooking the Puget Sound brought the gorgeous view right inside the house. Beautiful views, in both the rain and clear skies, and now we have happy memories there. With family all around, it was a convenient 20 minutes to Bremerton and Port Orchard, will definitely rent again when visiting our Washington family!

Outstanding view with costs

The view was spectacular. You can see a lot of sea life, view of Mt. Rainier and surrounding islands. However, expect a trek to the house from parking. There is a parking nazi that harasses anyone who parks closer to the house. Mind you, there are no cars parked down there. We received a note on Christmas Day as we were packing our car. RIDICULOUS! Not great on rainy days when you have stuff to carry. Heating system is terrible. Bathroom is extremely cold. There is a fireplace but you cannot use it. The mother in law is behind the property with zero access to a bathroom. I would not advise to stay here during the fall/winter.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed the spectacular views the home provides, but are sorry about the parking situation! This is a waterfront cabin community and most of the homes do not have direct parking to their properties, either. It is stated in the listing that it is about a city block walk to the home from where you park, as well as stated in the entry information not to park down lower to the home, as it is private property (even though it is always empty) and the homeowner does not want others parking on their property. The home is a one bathroom, and as described in the description, there is not direct access to the bathroom from the bunkhouse-- we try to make this clear as to avoid any upsets. Sorry about the confusion! Additionally, we have never had an issue with the heating system not creating enough heat, so we will definitely take a look at that and see what be the issue/what we can do. Hopefully we will see you again in the summer or spring time!

We had such a wonderful three nights in your sweet home! The first morning we were still

On East Coast time, so were at Albertsons at 5am getting coffees , back on the deck by 530am , where we sat and watched the sunrise , bundled up and blissful for the next 2 hours. The place is tiny, but the view is unbeatable. Loved walking on the beach , and just RELAXING! Admittedly, it took us about 20 minutes to find our way to the right path , in the dark, the first night. My only suggestion would be possibly having signage of some sort , or a landmark of some kind to mark the top of the path from the drive? It was a little creepy walking from the turnaround where you park to the house at night , but we had fun with it ( FYI it’s about a five minute walk from your car to the house).

The heat worked well, and plenty of hot water for showers too. We also enjoyed your guest book, and Cricket’s artwork 😊Thank you for a great trip! We will be back!

No hot water, difficult & dishonest property management company, old toilet on the deck

After turnover and service fees, this property rented at a luxury price, and like most consumers we had a reasonable expectation of what this property should be. I take full responsibility for booking, but this property is not what was advertised, certainly not worth the price tag. There was an old toilet on the deck near the BBQ. Gross.

Upon arrival, after 4pm check-in, we dropped off luggage, and left to grab food. On return to the rental around 6pm, we discovered there was no hot water. Detailed instructions on how to use the tankless water heater were followed. After going out back to check the 3 large propane tanks, it was obvious they were empty. The indicator was on red, the tanks were light, and we’d used propane before. I called the "owner's" number to find it was a property manager, not a person. My call was not returned. I sent an email, explaining the problem and that we had followed the instructions, but the tanks were empty. For the next 24 hours, over several emails (never a return call) I was told: A.)The previous tenants had hot water. B.)Maybe we were doing it wrong. C.)The tanks were just filled and couldn't have run out. D.)You can leave if you want to (where to??). E.)We can't get anyone out to help you at this hour. F.)The propane tank indicators have never worked. G.)This is a problem with the owner, not us. We've had lots of problems with them... Basically, lots of run around, and no hustle or responsibility. On a Friday night, and Saturday morning, I am CERTAIN that the multitude of local retailers such as Home Depot, Lowes, Uhaul etc. would have filled a propane tank or three. When Krista finally “found” someone to service the unit, she spoke like it was a favor to us. They filled only ONE tank (the indicator moved up 1/3 of the way, the other two tanks were light enough to lift) and lo and behold we had hot water on the late eve of the 2nd day. I had to ask, was not offered, a refund for the first day rental. When she put it through, it showed up as a "propane refund" without including the taxes or the service fees. Super dishonest. We were in town for a funeral one day, and hoped to relax the following two. Most people would like to take a shower before or after honoring a deceased loved one. Three of us went dirty, one took a painful freezing shower.

Gig Harbor is a beautiful location, but there are plenty of better places to stay with ethical owners. Lesson: Call to see if properties have complaints before booking

Owner's Response: We are truly sorry about the experience you had at the home. The toilet on the deck did not belong to the home, so we are unsure where it could have come from-- it has since been removed. With regard to the propane they are 100 lb tanks which need to be filled at the local propane company rather than Home Depot, etc., as well as take two people to haul off the property. As the local propane company was closed at that time on a Friday there was very little we could do. We addressed the issue within 24 hours which is difficult on a weekend. Nevertheless we are truly sorry for the inconvenience and hope that the refund you received proved as an act of goodwill and understanding that this was not what we want our guests to experience. We were in constant communication with regard to the status and that we would have the issue resolved within 24 hours, which upon learning about this at 7PM on a Friday evening was the soonest the matter could be addressed. The propane issue has now been addressed. Again, we are sincerely sorry for the negative experience and hope that you the refund expressed our apologies.

Unbeatable view!

Fantastic deck and view - we spent all our time outside. The house itself is well-maintained, functional with lots of storage and we weren't short for anything. I would re-arrange the living area differently. With the couch facing a dark area of the room isn't pleasant.

The management company is very responsive - we appreciate that. All and all, it was a wonderful stay and we look forward to coming back next year.

While we enjoyed the home and it's view,

we question the fact that the difficulty of access. It is not handicap accessible. The deck was in need of repair and the place needs comfortable seating on the deck.

In your advertising you should mention the access and parking situation.

Both the description as well as the signed rental agreement fully disclose that there is a bit of a walk to get to the property, however, we will definitely try to make it more clear. The home is not advertised as a handicap accessible home. Hopefully we can make it up to you in the future. We look forward to hopefully having you again.
