Built of the same tabby construction used by the Spaniards who established the first settlement in the area in 1565, The Tabby Townhome reflects an element of old-world history for which Beaufort is renown. We took care to preserve the solid tabby structure, during the complete renovation of the building -- adding architectural features, hand-hewn shutters, and draping window boxes to set a simple, yet classic, tone.
THE TABBY TOWNHOME
The Tabby Townhome is comprised of three fully-furnished, privately-accessible suites/apartments -- which may be rented independently or as a whole. This flexibility allows us to meet the needs of large or small groups of travelers. Depending on the size of your group, you can rent one suite or the entire townhome (normal capacity: 10; maximum capacity: 15). The suites in our Townhome are ideal for small family reunions and wedding parties, providing close proximity for all participants in a quiet setting with the bonus of individual privacy -- since they are enclosed under one roof yet each have separate entrances.
THE WEST INDIES is a beautiful loft-style apartment with an open floor plan. The living room and kitchen are downstairs (along with the washer and dryer). The sofa converts to a double bed to accommodate additional short-term visitors. Two additional upholstered chairs provide ample seating in the living room -- which also has a flat-screen TV with DVD/VCR, radio/cassette/disc player, ceiling fan, and telephone. The bedroom and bath --- along with a small study with desk (and secured Wi-fi) --- are upstairs. The bedroom features a king-sized bed, oversized closet, ceiling fan, TV with DVD/VCR, cordless phone, a small sitting area and lots of closet and drawer storage. The large bathroom has a walk-in custom-tiled shower and is equipped with both a rain head and a shower wand. A private European-style patio at the front of this apartment has a patio table, umbrella, and chairs for enjoying the out-of-doors. This is a wonderful place to enjoy a cup of coffee, share a lunch, or read a book.
THE MANHATTAN is a ground-floor 2BR/single bath apartment. The great room includes a living area decorated in tones of brown, camel and blue. In addition to a sofa and two upholstered chairs, the living room has the standard coffee and end tables, desk (with secured Wi-Fi), cordless phone, ceiling fan, flat-screen TV. This is joined to the open kitchen by a breakfast bar with granite counter-tops. There is also a gate-leg table with hide-away stools should you wish something more formal than the breakfast bar for dining. The Manhattan has a king-size bed in one bedroom and two twins (plus a pop-up twin trundle) in the other. The bathroom is custom-tiled and has a deep soaker-tub, which is also outfitted as a shower. An alcove off the bathroom houses the washer/dryer and linen cabinet. You can enjoy a quiet afternoon respite on your private porch overlooking our large magnolia tree and its surrounding gardens.
THE TUSCAN is a beautiful upstairs apartment with an open floor plan. The living room-kitchen area has a vaulted ceiling with skylights and lives large. The kitchen has a breakfast bar, granite countertops, and lots of cabinet and counter space. An elevated game table with stools doubles as dining space. A utility closet between the living room and kitchen houses the washer/dryer, vacuum, broom, mop, etc. The adjoining living room has a large sofa (queen-size, sleeps 2) plus two side chairs, a desk (with secured Wi-FI), ceiling fan, a flat-screen TV, and cordless phone. There is a queen bed in one bedroom and a double in the other; each bedroom has a flat-screen TV, ceiling fan and cordless phone. The custom-tiled bath (shower is equipped with both a rain head and shower wand) can be accessed from either bedroom. A small private deck, with patio table and chairs, overlooks the side garden ensconced by ivy and bamboo.

Located across the street from a bluff overlooking the Beaufort River, (part of the intra-coastal waterway along the Atlantic Coast), our large, lush front garden provides a welcome outdoor retreat to read, lunch, or just enjoy nature. And shading it all is our hundred-plus year old eponymous magnolia tree!

You'll love all three suites -- but what really sets Magnolia Court apart is our location! You can walk almost everywhere from here!
We are in a quiet residential neighborhood, yet just around the corner from the Historic District, shopping and dining. The Tabby Townhome at Magnolia Court is across the street from a bluff overlooking the Beaufort River; one block from Pigeon Point Park with its hundred-year old oak trees, picnic tables, benches, brick walkways and swings; and literally just around the corner from the Historic District. The beautifully renovated Waterfront Park with its unique shops and great restaurants in just a 10-minutes walk.
Hunting Island State Park with its picturesque lighthouse, pristine beaches and tidal lagoons is only a 20-minute drive to the east — and we offer our guests a pass for FREE access to the park ( along with a rolling cooler, beach umbrella, towels, and chairs)! Parris Island and the Marine Corps Air Station are only a 10-minute drive. We're also centrally located for easy day trips to Charleston (about an hour north) and Hilton Head and Savannah (both about an hour south of Beaufort).
A half-mile north -- in the midst of this residential neighborhood -- is a public boat launch (and we have room on-site to store your boat/trailer). Go crabbing, fishing, or just relax and watch the beautiful sunset over the intra-coastal waterway. Beaches --- The Sands (in Port Royal, 10-minutes) and Hunting Island State Park (20-minutes) are an easy drive. The historic cities of Charleston and Savannah are approximately an hour north and south, respectively -- making Magnolia Court and Beaufort a great hub from which you can see it all. Parris Island -- the only military installation where both male and female marine recruits are trained -- is only a 10-minute drive away and, along with Friday morning graduation ceremonies, is accessible to the public for tours.
Short-term rental rates include bed/bath linens, utilities (heating/air conditioning, cable TV, free secured Wi-Fi, local phone service). Renters who sign a rental agreement of more than 90 days are exempt from paying the accommodations tax (currently 10%). Special reduced rates are available if you rent multiple suites or for six months or longer. While most rentals are weekly or monthly, when there is availability we may rent for a 3-night minimum stay. The rates shown on this site are base rates; higher rates may apply depending on special events in the area or according to the season. Each suite has an occupancy limitation. WHAT WE PROVIDE
We think we have it all covered … you only need to bring your clothing and food!
All of our suites/apartments come equipped with everything you need for your stay. These full-sized-kitchens have granite counter tops, breakfast bars, and all the large and small appliances you will need to cook up a feast. Each kitchen is also stocked with dinnerware, silverware, cookware, and linens. We provide a starter supply of coffee/tea, spices, condiments, paper towels/toilet paper/tissues, soap and detergents.
The living rooms and bedrooms are also equipped with ceiling fans, cordless phones, and televisions with DVDs or VCRs. We have hair dryers in each bathroom and an iron and ironing board in each suite. Kitchens have standard coffee makers, blenders, mixers, slow cookers, waffle irons, microwave and standard ovens. Beds are available in a range of sizes: from toddler and extra-long twin, to double, queen, and king-size. We provide both bed and bath linens. All pillows are non-allergenic (non-feather).
We also provide you with a desk and high-speed Internet connection (secured Wi-Fi), so you can stay in touch for work or with family and friends. And since the weather is usually delightful, we have patio tables and chairs at each suite. A larger picnic table with chairs and charcoal grill are also available on-site. In addition, we also have both adult and children’s bikes. Bring your own helmets.
Ample off-street parking is provided on site, with additional parking available on our grassy lot next door for boats, trailers and visitors as needed.

Across the street is a park overlooking the Beaufort River, one block north is the beautiful Pigeon Point Park, and at the end of Pigeon Point Rd is a shaded mini-park overlooking Pigeon Point boat landing. At the same time, we are just around the corner from the Historic District, the Waterfront Park, unique shops, and wonderful restaurants. You can literally walk everywhere in Beaufort from here! And if you want to see more of the local area, it's only an hour's drive to Charleston or Savannah -- providing a convenient hub for you to see both cities. As a coastal community, beach-combing, fishing, and crabbing are naturally big past times. Golfing is also BIG in the Lowcountry of South Carolina -- with many World-Class Courses in the area. We'll provide you with a contact list of public and private courses where you can play. Kayaks and paddle boards are available locally for rent. In addition, there are two skateboard arenas about 15 minutes away and a small local aquarium to view native plants and species. Deep-sea and fresh-water fishing tours can be booked locally. In addition, we have bicycles on site for use on a first-come, first-served basis.

About the owner: I’m a Lowcountry native. I grew up in Charleston and have lived in Beaufort for over twenty years, so I know the area well. It’s very likely that my ancestors were gypsies or vagabonds, because I yearned to travel from an early age. By the time I finished college, however, I hadn’t been much of anywhere. So when my husband graduated law school, I convinced him to enter the Army JAG Corps on the premise that he could gain valuable courtroom experience, we could travel, and I could improve my command of the German language. (We subsequently spent our first five years in Germany.) For the next 20 years we traveled with Uncle Sam, landing in Atlanta for our final tour of duty. Life in the military afforded my family the opportunity to live and visit all over the world. As a seasoned traveler, I understand intuitively what visitors expect . . . and NEED . . . to know. Likewise, life as a military wife and mother has provided me with the expertise to turn each new abode into a real home. I have taken great pride and care in doing just that for our guests at Magnolia Court Guest Suites! Our landing in Beaufort was a circuitous journey. As those who get here know: it's well off the beaten path. While living in Atlanta, we took a week's vacation to Hilton Head for the first time and stumbled upon Beaufort on a day trip. What a delight! Beaufort had everything we wanted. It’s a small version of Charleston; coastal (we had been land-locked for years) with salt marshes and palm trees; picturesque with antebellum homes and moss-draped oaks; and rich with a colorful history that predates the arrival of Spanish, French, and then English explorers in the 1500 and 1600’s. Beaufort is unique -- both small town and cosmopolitan at the same time. Its repeated accolades in travel and lifestyle magazines attests to the unique nature of the place . . . and the warm, friendly embrace of the people who choose to live here. Why the Owner Chose Uptown, Beaufort, SC, USA:
My quest to relocate my antiques store in Beaufort led to the purchase of a 1930’s cottage in uptown Beaufort. I wanted a property close to town but not on the main thoroughfare and I didn't want it to 'look' commercial. Not content with just one project, we also acquired the modest two-story tabby building next door to establish something much-needed at the time: fully-furnished, short-term rentals. Thus began the saga of complete renovation of both buildings, the relocation of my antiques shop, and the launch of Magnolia Court Guest Suites. The tabby structure that we now call our Tabby Townhome is comprised of 3 suites (one 1BR and two 2BR apartments) that can be rented individually or as a whole. We set about transforming this long-neglected tabby structure and to infuse each of the suites with its own personality yet keep it a unified whole so that it could be rented as such (for wedding parties or family reunions) or as three individual apartments. We provided each with its own entrance, layout, color scheme, and personality. The Townhome at Magnolia Court consists of one 1-BR/single bath apartment and two 2-BR/single bath apartments. The West Indies, which has a king-sized bed, is recommended for sleeping two, but can accommodate four via a sofa bed in the living room. The Manhattan has a king-sized bed in one bedroom and three twins in the other, for a capacity of five people. The Tuscan, has a queen in one bedroom and a double in the other; it is recommended for sleeping four, but can handle six with its sleeper sofa. The total capacity of the complex, therefore, is 10 -15. (Several years later, when I closed the adjacent antiques shop, I transformed the cottage into an additional rental. Known as The Craftsman Cottage (vrbo listing #710172) this darling cottage offers sleeping for six to eight guests.

Our Townhome at Magnolia Court has seen a wide variety of guests since we opened in 2006 -- snow birds from the northeastern US and Canada looking to winter-over in a milder climate, professionals working in Beaufort for several months and wanting something more than a hotel room, gal-pals getting away for weekend sojourns, guys golfing, families and couples vacationing, military families moving into or out of the area, people relocating to Beaufort and needing a home while theirs is being built, and local families hosting an overflow of guests for special occasions. We've met so many wonderful people and love seeing many of them come back year after year! Our Townhome has the unique ability to offer flexible accommodations for groups large or small. If you have a large group that would like to be close together but still have a bit of privacy (up to 15 people), you can rent the entire Townhome to house ALL the family (for holidays or vacations) or a gathering of friends (for small group reunions). Each suite has its own living room, kitchen, bath, and private bedrooms. Since each suite has its own private entrance, you can easily rent only as much as you need. My husband and I still love to travel and look forward to his “final” retirement when we can really hit the road. And naturally, we’d prefer to stay in guest rentals – with all the comforts of home – especially if they’re located, like ours, in the heart of the community -- so we can easily walk everywhere.
