A 2BR/single bath suite in our Tabby Townhome at Magnolia Court Guest Suites
Located at 1206 Pigeon Point Road in Uptown Beaufort, South Carolina
YOUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME!
Whether you’re vacationing, moving to Beaufort, or will be working here for an extended period of time, The Manhattan in our Tabby Townhome at Magnolia Court is your ideal Home Away from Home!
Built of the same tabby construction used by the Spaniards who established the first settlement in the area in 1565, The Tabby Townhome reflects an element of old-world history for which Beaufort is renown. We took care to preserve the solid tabby structure, during the complete renovation of the building -- adding architectural features, hand-hewn shutters, and draping window boxes to set a simple, yet classic, tone.
THE MANHATTAN SUITE
THE MANHATTAN is a ground-floor 2BR/single bath apartment. The great room includes a living area decorated in tones of brown, camel and blue. In addition to a sofa and two upholstered chairs, the living room has the standard coffee and end tables, desk (with secured Wi-Fi), ceiling fan, flat-screen TV. This is open to the adjacent kitchen by a breakfast bar with granite counter-tops. There is also a gate-leg table with hide-away stools should you wish something more traditional than the breakfast bar for dining.
The Manhattan has a king-size bed in one bedroom and two twins (plus a pop-up twin trundle) in the other. The bathroom is custom-tiled and has a deep soaker-tub, which is also outfitted as a shower. An alcove off the bathroom houses the washer/dryer and linen cabinet. You can enjoy a quiet afternoon respite on your private porch overlooking our large magnolia tree and its surrounding gardens.
If you need larger accomodations please also check out our 3BR, two bath Craftsman Cottage -- which is located right next door. It can sleep 6-8 people. It is also listed on VRBO/HomeAway at www.vrbo.com/710172.
Our Tabby Townhome at Magnolia Court provides a serene garden setting and quiet respite when you need to get away from it all. Located across the street from a bluff overlooking the Beaufort River, (part of the intra-coastal waterway along the Atlantic Coast), our large, lush front garden provides a welcome outdoor retreat to read, lunch, or just enjoy nature. And shading it all is our hundred-plus-year-old name-sake magnolia tree!
IN THE HEART OF BEAUFORT
But what really sets The Tabby Townhome at Magnolia Court apart is our location! You can walk almost everywhere from here!
We are in a quiet residential neighborhood, yet just around the corner from the Historic District, shopping and dining. The Tabby Townhome at Magnolia Court is across the street from a bluff overlooking the Beaufort River; one block from Pigeon Point Park with its hundred-year old oak trees, picnic tables, benches, brick walkways and swings; and literally just around the corner from the Historic District. The beautifully renovated Waterfront Park with its unique shops and great restaurants in just a 10-minutes walk.
Hunting Island State Park with its picturesque lighthouse, pristine beaches and tidal lagoons is only a 20-minute drive to the east — and we offer our guests a pass for FREE access to the park ( along with a rolling cooler, beach umbrella, towels, and chairs)! Parris Island and the Marine Corps Air Station are only a 10-minute drive. We're also centrally located for easy day trips to Charleston (about an hour north) and Hilton Head and Savannah (both about an hour south of Beaufort).
A half-mile north -- in the midst of this residential neighborhood -- is a public boat launch (and we have room on-site to store your boat/trailer). Go crabbing, fishing, or just relax and watch the beautiful sunset over the intra-coastal waterway. Beaches --- The Sands (in Port Royal, 10-minutes) and Hunting Island State Park (20-minutes) are an easy drive. The historic cities of Charleston and Savannah are approximately an hour north and south, respectively -- making Magnolia Court and Beaufort a great hub from which you can see it all. Parris Island -- the only military installation where both male and female marine recruits are trained -- is only a 10-minute drive away and, along with Friday morning graduation ceremonies, is accessible to the public for tours.
Short-term rental rates include bed/bath linens, utilities (heating/air conditioning, cable TV, and Wi-Fi). Renters who sign a rental agreement of more than 90 days are exempt from paying the accommodations tax (currently 10%). Special reduced rates are available if you rent multiple suites or for six months or longer. While most rentals are weekly or monthly, when there is availability we may rent for a 3-night minimum stay. The rates shown on this site are base rates; higher rates may apply depending on special events in the area or according to the season. Each suite has an occupancy limitation. Rates are quoted for a specific time period and according to the stated occupancy only. Rates are subject to change until the booking is finalized.
NO SMOKING, NO PETS
In deference to our guests who have allergies, we are a pet-free and smoke-free facility.
Likewise, we avoid using scented products and use only non-allergenic (non-feather) pillows.

About Brenda Hood
I’m a Lowcountry native. I grew up in Charleston and have lived in Beaufort for over twenty years, so I know the area well. It’s very likely that my ancestors were gypsies or vagabonds, because I yearned to travel from an early age. By the time I finished college, however, I hadn’t been much of anywhere. So when my husband graduated law school, I convinced him to enter the Army JAG Corps on the premise that he could gain valuable courtroom experience, we could travel, and I could improve my command of the German language. (We subsequently spent our first five years in Germany.) For the next 20 years we traveled with Uncle Sam, landing in Atlanta for our final tour of duty. Life in the military afforded my family the opportunity to live and visit all over the world. As a seasoned traveler, I understand intuitively what visitors expect . . . and NEED . . . to know. Likewise, life as a military wife and mother has provided me with the expertise to turn each new abode into a real home. I have taken great pride and care in doing just that for our guests at Magnolia Court Guest Suites! Our landing in Beaufort was a circuitous journey. As those who get here know: it's well off the beaten path. While living in Atlanta, we took a week's vacation to Hilton Head for the first time and stumbled upon Beaufort on a day trip. What a delight! Beaufort had everything we wanted. It’s a small version of Charleston; coastal (we had been land-locked for years) with salt marshes and palm trees; picturesque with antebellum homes and moss-draped oaks; and rich with a colorful history that predates the arrival of Spanish, French, and then English explorers in the 1500 and 1600’s. Beaufort is unique -- both small town and cosmopolitan at the same time. Its repeated accolades in travel and lifestyle magazines attests to the unique nature of the place . . . and the warm, friendly embrace of the people who choose to live here. Come join us . . . for a weekend or much longer!
Brenda Hood purchased this Townhome in 2004
Why Brenda Hood chose Uptown
My quest to relocate my antiques store in Beaufort led to the purchase of a 1930’s cottage in Uptown Beaufort. I wanted a property close to town but not on the main thoroughfare and I wanted something with a homey feel. Not content with just one project, we also acquired the modest two-story tabby building next door to establish something much-needed at the time: fully-furnished, short-term rentals. Thus began the saga of complete renovation of both buildings, the relocation of my antiques shop, and the launch of Magnolia Court Guest Suites. The Manhattan Suite is loaded in our Tabby Townhome. Several years later, when I closed the adjacent antiques shop, I transformed the cottage into an additional rental. Known as The Craftsman Cottage (vrbo listing #710172), this darling cottage offers sleeping for 6-8 guests.
What makes this Townhome unique
The perfect co-location of these two properties -- The Tabby Townhome (vrbo# 84972) and The Craftsman Cottage (vrbo# 710172) has made Magnolia Court Guest Suites a favorite because of its flexibility in sleeping small and large groups alike. We have seen a wide variety of guests since we opened in 2006 -- snow birds from the northern states and Canada looking to winter-over in a milder climate, professionals working in Beaufort for several months and wanting something more than a hotel room, gal-pals getting away for weekend sojourns, guys golfing, families and couples vacationing, military families moving into or out of the area, people relocating to Beaufort and needing a home while theirs is being built, and local families hosting an overflow of guests for special occasions. We've met so many wonderful people and love seeing many of them come back year after year! My husband and I still love to travel and look forward to his “final” retirement when we can really hit the road. And naturally, we’d prefer to stay in guest rentals – with all the comforts of home – especially if they’re located, like ours, in the heart of the community -- so we can easily walk everywhere. We welcome you . . . to Magnolia Court Guest Suites, your Home Away from Home.

Clean, Comfortable, and Convenient
This property was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a 4 night stay in Beaufort. Brenda was very helpful and easy to work with. The main living area is small if you plan to spend a lot of time there but we spent most of our time out and about so it was not a concern. The 10 minute walk downtown won't be a problem for ably bodied people and it is even easier if you are riding a bike. All in all this was a convenient property to operate from.
We were delighted that we had availability for you to stay with us during your daughter's Spring Break! We are generally booked for the winter-springs months a year in advance, but happened to have a narrow opening to be able to host you. And you were delightful guests . . . just the kind we like to have. Eager to get out and explore the area and partake in the activities/special events going on that we share with our guests. Glad you enjoyed the First Friday Art Walk with its antique car show, musical entertainment, and wealth of local artistic talent. Trust that you also enjoyed the pass for access to the pristine beaches at Hunting Island State Park. It's rare to find such a public beach that is not commercialized. You were wonderful, thoughtful guests and we hope to have you return. (Note: the fall is also a wonderful time to come!)
Pleasant home away, well located and equipped
We stayed in the West Indies apartment for 5 nights May 2017. The unit has everything you need and then some. It is clean, beautifully decorated, well air conditioned, and in excellent shape. The kitchen is very well equipped and everything worked well. Brenda supplies a "beach unit" with a cooler, umbrella and chairs. There is a TV including access to Amazon that was easy to navigate. The bedroom and bathroom are on the second floor (15 stairs). Parking is easy out front. The area is safe and well located within walking distance of many things you may want to see. Easy living here.
So glad you had a great stay! We do try hard to equip each of our suites with everything you need and appreciate suggestions of things we may have missed. And we are estatic that the beaches at Hunting Island State Park will be open again in early June so our guests can put our beach gear to good use and enjoy their gorgeous pristine beaches (Hurricane Matthew did a bit of damage in October 2016, unforunately). We hope to see you return soon!
Fine accomodations in a gracious and lovely area.
We stayed here during the last 2 weeks of January thoroughly enjoying both our lodgings and Beaufort and environs. Snowbirds from Minneapolis we have been staying at several locations in Florida and South Carolina this winter. I am happy we chose to spend time here rather than day tripping from Hilton Head Island where we go next. Beaufort is lovely, gracious and a fine place to immerse oneself in American History. We visited Penn School, climbed the tower at Port Royal and drove out to Fripp Island. We enjoy walking and found Magnolia Court to be well situated for our purposes - walks to Pigeon Point or the Bayfront park at sunset were frequent and enjoyable. We had been looking forward to exploring the low country for Gullah art. Success was found on Lady Island at the Red Piano Too Art Gallery where she acquired two lovely paintings and a small basket.
We eat out often, perhaps half of the time. A few days ago we realized we have not had a disappointing restaurant meal here. This is remarkable. We have been spending winters away from Minneapolis for several years and this is a first. Favorite? Probably Wren. Others include Panini, Papaya Thai, Q on Bay, the Beaufort Bread Company on Lady Island has great lunches (as does the Market Cafe), Plums, Saltus River Grill and others. All in all, a fine place to eat ..... shy on the heat in dishes like barbecue and Asian ......but tasty.
We were so glad that we still had availability for you to stay with us, since our winter months are generally booked a year in advance. yes, Beaufort is a special town --- coastal, artsy, historic, and friendly . . . and we're lucky to be located in easy walking distance to almost everything you would want to do! The West Indies Suite is a beautiful loft-style apartment and is perfect for a couple like the two of you. We hope to have you come stay with us again!
Beautiful place! We stayed in the West Indies. There was everything in the house you would ever need. Brenda was a perfect host, thank you! We plan to return.
Thank you, Vicky, for taking the time to write a review for us. As you know, they are important for potential guests to know if our listings are really "real." We have tried hard to think of everything you will need while you are here with us, and we constantly tweak that list (and everything else about Magnolia Court Guest Suites)! Looking forward to having you back!
We came from Arkansas to meet my daughter and son-in-law for a brief get together. Loved the Crafsman cottage at Magnolia court. A great walk to a local restaurant and along the water front. Just a cute area, close enough to the down town to make for easy walking. Beds were very comfortable, nice bathrooms and quiet enough to be able to relax. Nice kitchen to prepare a few snacks instead of always going out. Thanks for letting us share your cottage
Wonderful stay in 2014 for our son's fall wedding
We stayed at Magnolia Court for our son's wedding and we were totally pleased with the home and its amenities. A second full shower would have been nice, but we all worked around that. Perfect location!
Great to hear from you after all this time! What a treat! And so glad you enjoyed your stay in The Craftsman Cottage. It is a wonderful cottage and great location. Sorry that both bathrooms didn't have showers, . . . but we do strive to please and some people prefer a nice soak in a tub. Unfortunately the window in that bathroom precluded our being able to make it a tub-shower combination. Looking forward to having you come back to stay for a leisurely vacation!
As a coastal community, beach-combing, fishing, and crabbing are naturally big past times. Golfing is also BIG in the Lowcountry of South Carolina -- with many World-Class Courses in the area. We'll provide you with a contact list of public and private courses where you can play. Kayaks and paddle boards are available locally for rent. In addition, there are two skateboard arenas about 15 minutes away and a small local aquarium to view native plants and species. Deep-sea and fresh-water fishing tours can be booked locally. In addition, bikes can be rented to hit the scenic byways of our new Spanish Moss Trail.
