About Gary Sibilsky
A family Cottage that has been passed down from my parents. We have recently made major improvements to the cottage over this past year and are now ready to rent out the property. I grew up in the area and have spent my entire life spending time enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Upper Peninsula . I know you will find this property to your liking and will enjoy it also.
Gary Sibilsky purchased this Cottage in 1962
Why Gary Sibilsky chose Toivola
The cottage is located on a 110 acre lake that enjoys 800 feet of lake frontage. Great fishing, watersports, swimming, and beautiful sunsets. Minutes away from golfing, ATV and snowmobile trails. In the Winter enjoy the absolute best snowmobiling in the U.P. Minutes away from the Mc Nichols trail #109. The area receives 300 to 400 inches of snow annually which means you always have fresh snow to snowmobile

Great location, very isolated. Place could have been a little cleaner; looked like it might have sat empty for awhile. Everyone had a wonderful time; we went fishing, sat around a campfire, and took the kayak for a spin. The almost-full moon on the last night was worth awakening for at 3 am!
A very unique and enjoyable setting. The cabin is a "work in process". It is rustic.
The location on the lake is awesome. It provides great sunsets and campfires.
The cabin has the basic necessities. i.e. fully stocked kitchen and bathroom It is missing (waiting to be completed) window and door trim. Thus, I would say it is rustic. This is a very basic cabin/cottage. It doesn't have modern finishes or furniture.
There is satellite television and an auxiliary air conditioning unit.
I would recommend bringing your own watercraft if you intend to fish or do other water sports.
Location fantastic. Cottage... not so much
The location of this cottage is fantastic. That alone is worth $100 a day. There are several other properties around the lake & you're close (but not too close) to only one or two of them. The location is remote enough that it's very quiet during the day, and very dark at night. If you're a stargazer this is a good place to stay when the skies are clear. Trees block the view to some degree but there's still plenty of sky to see. We heard the occasional ATV and foolish wolf-howling neighbour, but not enough for it to become bothersome.
The issues began when we stopped admiring the view & went inside the cottage. The side porch is a handy place to kick off your shoes so you don't take the outdoors indoors. However as soon as the inner door was opened I noticed a strong odour. The smell persisted the whole time we were there even though we kept as many windows open as possible, day & night. I failed to identify what it was, but it was a sort of old, unpleasant, musty smell. There may have been improperly cleaned up pet mess mixed in with it too. I'm not sure if it faded over time due to the open windows or if I became nose-blind to it, but it came back strongly when I sat on the couch or put my head too near the carpet.
Another negative was the decor, & some of the furniture. The huge 50-odd inch TV looks out of place compared to everything else. I didn't notice prior to booking when looking at the photos before booking, but looking again closely after the trip, I can see some of the flaws. The one word I would use is "shabby". The draughts must be terrible in the winter so I'm glad we stayed in summer. The cottage is clean but it needs a major makeover. The material on the rocker/recliner is very worn, to the point I didn't want to sit in it. It wasn't all bad though. The beds were comfortable enough, as was the couch. If you're a group of 8 then bedding and towels might be an issue after week but if there's only 2 of you then you could stay for weeks and not need a restock.
In summary: Based on past experience I'd put the value of the cottage itself at $40 a night. I said the location alone was worth $100 a night but I paid double that, hence my low ranking. If you stay here spend as much time as possible outdoors and as little time as possible indoors.
Quiet, peaceful cabin on a beautiful little lake
We stayed for a week in August and it was perfect for our family. The lake was great for swimming and there’s even a little beach for the kids to play on. We had fires every night and could watch the sunset over the lake. The cabin had everything we needed and was the perfect size, nothing fancy just simple and quaint. We were also in a perfect location to travel to popular UP destinations. Thanks again to the hosts!
Great cabin and location with amazing scenery!!!
If you are looking for a place to be "away from it all" this is the place for you!!! It was so BEAUTIFUL and RELAXING for all of us. The cabin is very nice and cozy and there is a private beach! The whole family enjoyed fishing and swimming. The property was amazing and the area very nice to take long walks and/or early morning runs. I took so many pictures of the lake/sunsets because they were all so very beautiful. Gary was very nice to work with and responded in a timely manner to all of my messages prior to and during our stay. It was an OUTSTANDING vacation and given the opportunity we will be back!!!
Gary was amazing to work with. He offered suggestions on things in the area.
He respondd to all my questions within a very short period of time. My kids enjoyed spending lots of time in the lake. Boat dock and sitting dock were very peaceful. Sunrises and sunsets were amazing on the water. Very well kept property. Definitely would go back again. Thanks Gary.
Enjoy a beautiful 9 hole golf course 2 miles away. Also visit lake Superior and misery bay just 30 minutes from the cabin. You are 25 minutes from the Houghton Hancock town that has many restaurants and stores to shop at.
