About Robert Hatch
We are a family of 8, my wife and I and 6 children. We have owned this property since early 1999. We plan on expanding the home in time and retiring here after our children are through school and out on their own. In the meantime, we love to share this beautiful home, its unique features and handcrafted construction. The original home dates to the late 1800's or early 1900's and the large portion of the home was added in 1961. The home and the renovation were designed in the Frank Lloyd Wright style and built by hand from clear redwood throughout.
Robert Hatch purchased this Chateau / Country House in 1999
Why Robert Hatch chose San Luis Obispo
You will find this property to an amazing oasis in the midst of the Edna Valley. Most people could not find and wouldn't notice this property. Everyone that comes out to our home remarks that it is so isolated but so close to all the local amenities and sites. Incredible views from inside and out, central coast weather, great entertainment options inside and out, a hot tub for 8 and ping pong, shuffle board and darts for your competitive cravings while you are bbq-ing or just hanging out with a glass of fine wine, craft beer or a craft cocktail. You will love the unique setting, night and day. The whole property is lit and usable day and night. You will lov the unique style and history of the home and the incredible outdoor entertainment options.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
Isolated but close to everything. Incredible outdoor spaces and usable landscape. World Class entertaining amenities and plenty of space to sit, eat drink and enjoy the great views. The home is older but gives a wonderful, warm and comfortable feeling. It is easy to host a few or a larger group of people. The views from the inside are almost as good as the views from the outside. Great open rooms, expansive eves and decks, large windows and expanses of glass bring the beautiful outdoors into the inside spaces. You can sit for hours and just watch what is going on outside or rest, relax, read and enjoy.

The place is great and very secluded, able to host large groups, too bad it is only two bedroom, but that was fine for the 5-1/2 of us. Rob is a caring host and had everything ready and thought of.
We hope to return soon.
The photos, descriptions and reviews convinced me that I was making the right choice for my family to experience a rural contrast to Bay Area living, and we loved every minute! We appreciated the house’s history, setting and space. The red wood walls and ceilings, the incredibly well stocked kitchen, beautiful dining room, radiant heated floors, high quality sheets and comfortable beds mad our time together delightful! We drank coffee and watched the sky change colors with the sunrise. We played board games on the heated floor. We cooked dinners and made pizza in the outdoor oven. We built a fire in the pit and made s’mores with all the fixings left for us in the cupboards. Of course they even had special long metal forks to roast the marshmallows! We shut off the lights and gazed at the stars. We went in the hot tub. We explored Pismo Beach and went on a hike. We went to a couple of wineries. There’s still more to do in the area, so we will definitely be back for another experience at this amazing getaway! Rob kept in constant communication, and responded instantly to my questions. We have been renting homes for 10 years and this is one of my favorites! I couldn’t get enough of the beautiful view from every window. We are all breathing a little easier. I can’t wait to go back!
Thanks Marie. We hope to ss
Rolling Hills, Big Sky Views and Stunning
If you are looking for a home where you can relax and enjoy the San Luis Obispo region, this property is centrally located to downtown SLO and Cal Poly, Pismo Beach and the Edna Valley. It seems to be 10-20 minutes from everything. It is a semi rural location down a private road. If you are a city or suburban person, you will feel like you are in the country, but Uber can find you and we enjoyed the tranquility. The views and vistas are amazing and the outdoor areas are well appointed for hanging out with fire pits, pizza ovens and bbq plus the bonus of a hot tub. The house with its wooden architecture and large windows feels like it could be in Big Sur and is very comfortable for a group. We came for a wedding weekend and could not have selected a more peaceful and beautiful place. Plus fun with games like shuffle board, ping pong and darts . It feels like a home designed for entertaining. Our host was also very accommodating and gave us personal instructions on how to use the pizza oven. We will be back.
Thanks so much! Please come back:-)
Awesome home for a bigger group
The house was absolutely amazing. The yard itself is reason enough to stay there. Beautiful views, great seating area and gorgeous flowers. The house was perfect for our group of 8 people because it had big open rooms that made it feel very spacious the whole time. Would definitely like to stay there again in the future.
Thanks for choosing and enjoying our home. We are so glad you found the House to be so easy to share and hang out. We appreciate you taking good care and for leaving everything in good shape. Please come back!
Excellent Home in SLO
This property was the best to rent! The house was spacious and had great amenities. The owner was also very helpful and was very easy to reach if needed.
There are wonderful restaurants and activities across San Luis Obispo and surrounding communities. San Luis Obispo is an outdoor paradise of hiking, road and mountain bikiing as well as surfing, beach walks and you an even drive highway 1 on the beach in Pismo to Oceano.
