About the property

Incredible Views/Easy Beach Access/Lovely Home Away from Home

At Tanera Moor, it's hard to decide which is more beautiful - the woods or the sea view. This beach house is stylishly appointed with stunning views across a small estuary into the Bay. The house features an open floor plan for easy entertaining. See diverse wildlife including, herons, swans, ospreys, bald eagles, and pelicans as you cook, read, or relax. Six bicycles provided free of charge with the rental provide guests an quick ride to the beach, which is a block and a half away. Or, amble down to the private, sandy beach by foot with beach bag in hand.

Once you reach the beach, 2 kayaks will await you - at not additional cost to exploure the Chesapeake Bay or one of the many nearby creeks that are full of birds and native grasses. Kayak or bicycle - the world is your oyster here.

Back in the house, the open floor plan, complete with a well-equipped kitchen, dining room, and sitting room allows a family or group to be together whether cooking, playing games, watching television or just relaxing. The fireplace makes winter days at Tanera as enticing as summer days. For even more relaxation, enjoy a wine tasting at nearby Woodlawn plantation - Slack wine dot com.

A short bike ride away is Point Lookout State Park, a Civil War site. Today the park, which is located on the point where the Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac River meet, hosts miles of protected land set aside for biking, kayaking, boating, fishing, camping or enjoying nature as well as a museum that provides a historical perspective on the region. Or charter a boat at one of many local marinas for a day of fishing on the Bay. Another nearby historical site is St. Mary's City (10 miles), the original capital of Maryland.

Visitors are 25 minutes from dining and shopping on Solomon's Island or in historic Leonardtown. Or enjoy one of several local marina restaurants. Want a day trip away? All that the nation's capital has to offer is a short 80 miles away.

Collect shells and beach glass while walking uninterrupted for miles along the sandy beach. Unlike typical cheek-by-jowl beach houses, Tanera offers its visitors direct Bay views while nestled on one and one-half 1/2 acres of land. Enjoy rare waterview privacy (no other houses between your view and the Bay) and access so close to major cities and amenities.

What makes this house unique

It's rare to find a property that has beautiful woods behind and to both sides with an amazing view to the Bay at the front of the house. Truly nestled in the woods yet with the amazing views of the Bay.

Relaxing getaway destination

  • 5 of 5

Our group of four, plus dog, enjoyed our long weekend stay at Tanera Moor. We loved the home's Florida room and the screened porch. The weather was perfect for going to the Oyster Festival and exploring Point Lookout. We also found time for a short bike ride and several walks on the beach.

Tanera Moor and the Full Moon

  • 5 of 5

Another beautiful stay on the Chesapeake for my husband and me and our two pugs! This was our first time staying at Tanera Moor and the full moon rose, like a butterscotch candy, from TM's front picture window; we watched it from start to finish by the fire!

The listing description was spot on: we easily found the house, and found it clean, well maintained, comfortable, cozy, and full of the amenities of home. We slept great on a quality mattress and under quality sheets and blankets, which I find is rare in a vacation property. The weather was snowy and stayed around 20 degrees, but we were always warm and comfortable in the home. Peggy and the property managers make it so that you never have to leave the house! We had great meals from the groceries I brought, and which I prepared in the well appointed, well functioning kitchen - all of the appliances worked perfectly, and many of the little things are finer than my kitchen at home! I was jealous of the supply of Pyrex storage containers :). We ate our meals, played cards, read, watched movies, and talked in front of the marvelous wood burning fireplace that we kept roaring from late afternoon to late evening. What a beautiful memory!

As usual, the owner and property managers provided the most excellent, friendly, responsive, and thorough customer service. We saw the property managers out and about our whole stay, attending to the snowy and chilled properties. The property managers are wonderful, and are so attentive if you ever have a problem or concern.

As this is our fifth stay at the Scotland Yards properties, we have scoped out the area. We like to get fresh, local fish from Kellam's Seafood - you won't find tastier fish, and it's prepared for you to pop on the grill or in the oven, on site, by their skilled employees. Also, we never miss pulling a beer from the cooler at Buzzy's and sharing a libation with the locals. Thus, the regulars are getting to know us, and they provide a spirited sense of camaraderie in an otherwise quiet and low key area. A regular patron at Buzzy's suggests, for a great meal, Elements restaurant in Lexington Park (try their crab cakes) and The Front Porch in Leonardtown.

Not only do I recommend this property to family and friends, I recommend Peggy's properties to nearly everyone I come across who even *hints* at wanting a vacation! You truly will be hard pressed to find a more beautiful, peaceful, natural, charming, location in the DMV area.

Wonderful Fall Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We had a last minute stay at Tanera Moor with 2 other couples, and it was fantastic! Although not right on the Bay, the view is still stunning as the sun rises directly in front of the house, over the bay and the little creek just in front. The walk to the beach is not far at all, the bikes make it even quicker! Lots of sea glass was found and treasured. The bedding and linens were top of the line. Truly we only needed to bring clothing and food, everything we needed was provided. Another enjoyable weekend with friends and family at Scotland Yards.

Great Retreat Area!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Tanera Moor! We were grandparents, son, and grandchildren. It was perfect for all of us. The grandchildren were in an area that was safe for them to feel a bit of independence at riding their bikes to and from the beach, and the house was spacious enough for all of us. The home is clean and comfortable with beds and linens that invite you to nestle in. I travel with my own linens, but found the ones on the beds to be soft and lucious, so I didn't get mine out!

The location is lovely with water views to enjoy in every direction! However, not too far away is St. Mary's historic community,The Sotterley Plantation, The Naval Air Museum, and the Calvert Marine Museum, all of which we enjoyed. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from and there are fresh fruit and vegetable stands along the way.

Peggy, the owner, was very responsive to any questions and was a pleasure to work with.

We would certainly consider this destination and home again!

Wonderful Remote Place

  • 5 of 5

Great place. Very remote and quiet. Beautiful decor in the house - not your usual beach house with second rate furniture. Property manager is wonderful to work with. She responded quickly and addressed any and all questions/concerns that we had. We used the bikes and kayaks almost everyday. They were really a nice bonus.

Great! House, bikes, soap, every dish i needed.....even a bunny in the front yard!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time. We could walk to the beach and beachcomb or kayak, or take a leisurely bike ride, or drive to Point Lookout, or just sit in living room and view the beautiful scenery. The house had everything we could want. Scotland Yards is a diamond on the do a great job, from fixing up the homes to making sure the guests feel comfortable. Thanks, see you soon!
