A fabulous spot!

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed three nights in early November. The weather reports forecasted rain the entire weekend. We were prepared to hunker down in the house with books and movies. Although we did get a few brief showers, the weather was mostly perfect for walks on the beach, bike rides along the haul road, and even a paddle up river. We loved watching the harbor seals playing at the mouth of the river.

The house is small but quaint, perfect for two or four; the kitchen is more than adequate for all cooking needs (I cooked all our meals at the house and found everything I needed). The bathroom was supplied with a minimum number of towels (2 bath, one hand, and one washcloth), no hair dryer, and only one roll of TP (bring extra!). We LOVED the glassed-in sleeping alcove! I highly recommend sleeping here rather than the bedroom. You can watch the stars and see and hear the waves crashing from the bed. And it's plenty cozy and warm! The propane fireplace is convenient (just move the thermostat), and warms up the place quite nicely. When the sun is out, the living area warms up quickly with all the glass in the room.

We loved the location, close enough to Fort Bragg to drive in for dinner or a quick trip to the store, but remote enough to feel like you're all by yourselves. We walked over Ten Mile Bridge to the lookout area, walked down a trail to the dunes, then out to the beach and back up the riverbank. A nice walk in early morning. The outside firepit area has a gorgeous view, and the decks are lovely to bask in the sun. But overgrown trees obstruct the view from the house and deck areas. Take the 37 steps (yes, we counted them!) down to the boathouse and you'll find kayaks and a nice canoe with paddles and life jackets. Take the boats out! It is so peaceful and serene out on the river. You'll see more wildlife than you will walking on the banks or the beach. This was our favorite part of our stay!

Cathy is very friendly and helpful and gave an accurate picture of what to expect during our stay. We loved our pre-holiday getaway and plan to return to this spectacular place!

Owner's Response: Thank you Jill for your wonderful review! I really appreciate your help in helping everyone understand what our home is like. I wish the best experience for everyone who visits. I continue to work with our helpers to leave five towels, wash clothes, and wash cloths. It's a steep learning curve! I will get a hair dryer too. It's a catch 22 with cutting the bushes for privacy versus seeing the view. We've added a tall bistro table on the deck for meals on the deck and a great view at the same time! With your comments we can continue to make it the best it can be. Looking forward to having you back!

Very quiet, peaceful and beautiful

  • 4 of 5

The House had everything we needed. the property was beautiful and had really good views. We like our privacy and a quiet setting and we had all of that. The main bed was really good to sleep on. We had a really good time and house was close to all the places we enjoy in Ft Bragg.

Loved our stay! Great communication with owners!

  • 5 of 5

The views and tranquility of the house and grounds make this a truly special place to get away! The yard is beautiful, my only suggestion, would be some trimming of the bushes in front of the deck and around the house so you could better appreciate the view. And the house is so charming. It’s a rustic cottage, so take that into consideration everything is adorable, but it’s got the quirks of being a well loved cabin. The glassed in sleeping room is heaven! We will return again!!! Thank you for our stay!

Spectacular location for well-equipped house

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely and peaceful time in this coastal house with spectacular views. The house was well equipped with everything we needed and very clean, although the furniture is stained, the floors could use a paint job, and we had to be very careful in the shower. We really appreciated the responsiveness and warmth of the owners and would happily stay there again.

Owner's Response: Hello, I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay at Seaside Serenity, and appreciated your comments. Clearly our little home is a work in progress. Last year we put a new roof on, and this year we repaired the septic system. There is always something to fix when you’re a homeowner. We haven’t found a couch that fits so covering the couch was the next best thing. That being said we have to change the cover frequently- beige is never a good color in the country! The leather chairs are so comfortable it’s hard to get rid of them so I’ve ordered leather stain so we’ll see how that works. The floors need to be completely replaced so that’s our next big project unless we add on a small room to the front of the house and put a shower in to make the tub just a pretty decoration (I vote for this). I always wanted a claw foot bathtub, but now realize I’d rather have a Jacuzzi! We will do our best to make the changes needed and very much appreciate your feedback. Thank you, Cathy and Jim
