Beautiful views and great location

This was a great place for a long weekend getaway. Located between Pacifica and Half Moon Bay everything is within a reasonable distance. Silvia and James were great hosts. Being welcomed with a bottle of wine and having snacks available is a nice touch. One specific I'd like to mention is the walkway to the entrance is loose rock and stepping stones so if you walk with a cane like me you need to take it slow. Looking forward to going back.

Exceptional Hosting

The property was clean with a large comfortable deck for enjoying the sun and ocean view. The property was well stocked with anything a person would need to have a relaxing vacation. The hosts checked in a few times to ask if I needed anything, which I didn’t because it was so well stocked…I would most definitely stay with Sylvia and James again in the future!

A relaxing retreat.

It was our anniversary and we wanted to just relax with our pup. The apartment was perfect. The deck was wonderful. We all enjoyed being there. I would say the pictures don’t do the place justice. Thank you.

We picked this property based on excellent reviews and we were not disappointed. The apartment was nicely decorated and very comfortable. Nightime sleeping was comfortable and quiet. Good resauants are a few minutes away by car and it is easy to find the property. The communication from the hosts provided everything we needed to know. This is a place we could feel good about returning for another visit.

Coastal Bay Oasis

My daughter and I were in California for my other daughter’s wedding. We decided a trip up the coast would be fun. I’m so glad we choose this lovely apartment. From the chilled wine and snacks waiting for us upon arrival, to the comfy bed & pillows, ample towels, beautiful view and charming fireplace (Midwesterner’s are sadly unaware that it gets chilly in Northern CA in June!!), it was everything we could ask for and more!

Pleasant Costal Area on Pacific Ocean

Our stay in Montara at the property of James and Silvia was very pleasant. Quiet Clean Interesting artwork It was also close to Sam's Chowder House, a very nice seafood restaurant. I would highly recommend this as a place to stay on the Half Moon Bay area. Convenient too . . . The drive to San Francisco Airport was easy even though when you are at the property, you have no sense that you are anywhere near a major airport. Thank you! Gary

Fantastic View and Location!

Great time spent at a really great place! The view is fantastic! We had a little trouble finding it in the dark, but Silvia came out and met us. The rest of the weekend went smooth. Highly recommend!

Cozy and comfortable

We had a wonderful time staying in Montara at James and Sylvia’s tucked away retreat, just minutes from the beach and spectacular coastline of northern California. The hosts are most gracious and welcoming and knowledgeable about what’s available to experience during our stay. The apartment is spacious, clean and inviting and a great jump off to the historic and artful downtown of Half Moon Bay as well as to the exhilarating beaches and hiking trails along the pristine coastline. This is a great place to stay!

Totally delightful!

What a lovely property, in a beautiful area! Silvia and James' apartment is warm and cozy, and even though it is off of their house, it feels completely private. Lovely decor, and the patio is open for use to view the ocean across the street or the wildlife that comes through the trees (we saw deer one day). While no full kitchen, the apartment had all the essentials for me, since I was planning on eating two meals a day out in restaurants as part of my vacation. The area is beautiful, with dog-friendly beaches, restaurants and activities, and an off=leash dog park in Half Moon Bay. The night before I left, Silvia called and left a message for me to ensure that I knew about a festival in Half Moon Bay which could impede my travel home. Overall just a lovely experience, with very thoughtful owners who were readily accessible if needed. It was my second stay there and I definitely would go back again!

Was pleasantly surprised w/spacious room and great views

My husband and I came for a relaxing weekend with ocean views. We really enjoyed our stay. We were close to everything we wanted to explore and the hosts were great! If we come back to this area we would book this location again. Very Happy with our choice!

Coastal Delight

Everything about this rental was easy and comfortable. It was equipped with everything we needed, plus a view of the lighthouse. We mentioned we might want to do some crafting while there and the owner offered a perfect table for that and left it in the unit for us to use. The hosts were super: a bottle of wine was chilling for us when we arrived, and Silvia left fresh baked cookies (attached to our car door handles) for us the morning of our departure.

Montara Miracle

We had the most amazing 2 night getaway at this gem of a place! Owners spared no detail as everything was perfect! Welcome drinks in fridge, snacks to munch, abundance of coffee and more! The space was comfortable and kitschy with lots of eye candy! The outdoor deck was amazing abs relaxing with views of the ocean and greenery. We have never seen such lush succulents! Quick drive to Half Moon Bay with its wonderful shops and restaurants, and close to numerous fabulous beaches! Would definitely recommend and revisit!

Perfect getaway or home base

Absolutely fantastic place to stay. We sincerely wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy everything they have to offer. All the standard amenities, but the above and beyond touches were dearly appreciated. From the snacks and the wine that call your name after a long day hiking the San Francisco hills, to the cozy bathrobes available for those chilly coastal mornings. The hosts were extraordinarily accommodating and responded quickly to our inquiries. The location was perfect for what we were looking for. San Francisco is very accessible, and we easily day tripped down the famous Pacific Coast Highway to Monterey Bay. Montara's large beach is only a couple minutes away by car, and Half Moon Bay is a brief drive south. The hosts provide a fantastic guide to the area, and we personally recommend the quaint coffee house Here Comes the Sun Coffee just up the road. The place could easily be a home base for California adventuring, or just a quiet and relaxing getaway. Highly recommend!

Fantastic place!

Super clean and cozy. Ideal location. Hosts were easy to reach and responded quickly, though we had no issues. They checked in to replenish items as needed. The days were chillier than we anticipated for July, so it a was great to have heating options and extra blankets Gherkins and Tres Amigos are two nearby dining experiences we’d recommend for super casual and good food.

Water Lighthouse View

It was a nice quiet neighborhood and super easy commute in/out of downtown San Francisco. It does back up against a natural estuary area which means be ready for random critters roaming the deck, as we witnessed, with a nice water, sunset viewing from the deck.

My wife Silvia and I (James) have had the great fortune to be able to raise our two kids (Derek and Fasha) in such a beautiful place in the world. Now that they have grown and are about the business of making their own lives we decided to share our good fortune with others.

Miksi majoittaja valitsi tämän majoituspaikan

We originally rented this house from Silvia's father when he temporarily left the medical field to serve as the country administrator of Costa Rica for the Peace Corps. Following he did a similar job in Nicaragua. After a five year hiatus he and his wife decided to settle in Denver Colorado. We were delighted buy this ocean view house and "take it off their hands".

A 3 minute walk across the street brings you to Montara Lighthouse with breath taking view of the rugged coast and crashing sea. It also has a youth hostel and a rentable space for events and such. Follow the trail you can you can visit both a beautiful sand beach and rocky tide pool area.
If nature is your thing then you be delighted with the many trials for hiking and biking. If it's surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing,
