About Ben & Brywn Philips

We are Ben and Brywn Philips who met and married in Jacksonville, FL. We currently live full time on Green Mountain Farm.

Ben & Brywn Philips purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Ben & Brywn Philips chose Green Mountain

There is something special about the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. Standing on Green Mountain Farm gives you the sense of walking back in time. Walking amongst our forests and crystal clear streams enables you to connect with nature in a quiet, peaceful way that our forebearers probably experienced on a much more regular basis. In 2007 we started to search for a family getaway. The traffic, mowers, and blowers of Florida became overwhelmingly damaging to our health and peace of mind .

We then discovered Green Mountain Farm -our dream of a getaway nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We purchased the property and lived on-property for one year while buiding our house and barns, then moved back to Florida. For years we came up for summers as we improved the land. In June of 2015 we were finally able to move here full time and enjoy our beautiful wilderness year-round.

To walk outside each morning and hear only birdsong, rushing streams, or wind in the leaves is a wonderful luxury in our post modern world.

What makes this cabin unique

Green Mountain Farm is a mountain cove, meaning our property line runs along the ridge tops surrounding us on three sides. The naural landscape is beautiful and timeless, causing everyone who comes here to eventually slow down and appreciate each breath here on earth.

Our love of antiques is obvious in the old log cabins we purchased and moved to the property. Being in these structures brings a quiet awe to your day that can only be felt when in the presence of history.

One of our cabins (Haven Lodge) sits next to a beautiful pond and grotto created back when Feldspar mining was done here up until the 1950's. These spaces were filled with spring water over time and have become a wonderful feature of our farm. All three of our properties are within walking distance of each other and make for a wonderful hike.

Ben and I make it a point to walk three miles each day, perhaps we'll see you!

Perfect place to rest and revive!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second year staying in this beautiful cabin on Green Mountain Farm. Again, it did not disappoint and was such a treat. Even a rainy weekend is incredible by a warm fire and views of the gorgeous landscape. It is truly a home away from home without any distractions and opportunities to wander a beautiful landscape or rest by the fire.

A most unexpected, wonderful surprise - What a gem.

  • 5 of 5

My associate and I were traveling to the area to look over various parcels of land. We needed a place in the middle of our search area and found the Green Mountain Farm on VRBO. What a wonderful "accident". The cabin it true to the period.... large logs, chinking, old hardwood floor, exposed rough hewn beams and tin roof. What was not "period" accurate were the amenities. The bathroom was a full on bathroom with a wonderful clawed foot tub with shower set up. The kitchen was fully equipped with refrigerator, microwave, and most importantly a coffee maker. The cabin has a wonderful rocking chair porch complete rocking chairs. Rock the porch while listening to the creek and drinking coffee - totally relaxing. The queen size bed in the loft was easy to get to and comfortable. The couch and day bed downstairs were large enough for adults to sleep on and plenty comfortable. The cabin has a wonderful fireplace - wood provided - but also has a modern unit for heating and cooling if needed - we just used the fireplace.

The grounds are a mini-Biltmore Estates grounds. The road follows a wonderful little stream and leads up to the larger rentals on the property. One is right next to a large cave/grotto (Ravens Cave) and is genuinely out of this world. As we were walking up to the cave a large raven flew out of the entrance - what a nice experience. The pool in front of the cave looks like something out of the movies - very beautiful and tranquil.

I can go on and tell you about the beautiful stables and trails but I won't have room to tell you about the Ben and Brywn, I meet them only briefly as I moved around the property. They were nice and very helpful when we met them. Told us about the uniqueness of the property and structures. It was the extra touches that showed us who they really are. The welcome bag with goodies, the fireplace totally prepped for a fire before we arrived. The shelter for the car to park, the lighting - the pottery art work throughout the property - all wonderful.

What a fine place to stay. I will bring my wife back on a pleasure trip instead of business and stay longer. Thanks Ben and Brywn for a lovely stay.

Really loved the location of this cabin. Had everything we needed and the owners left very detailed maps and a book of what is available in the area. Thank you for making us feel welcomed with the nice gift bag and mugs. Would love to return☺
