About Ben & Brywn Philips

We are Ben and Brywn Philips who met and married in Jacksonville, FL. We currently live full time on Green Mountain Farm.

Ben & Brywn Philips purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Ben & Brywn Philips chose Green Mountain

There is something special about the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. Standing on Green Mountain Farm gives you the sense of walking back in time. Walking amongst our forests and crystal clear streams enables you to connect with nature in a quiet, peaceful way that our forebearers probably experienced on a much more regular basis. In 2007 we started to search for a family getaway. The traffic, mowers, and blowers of Florida became overwhelmingly damaging to our peace of mind and well being.

We then discovered Green Mountain Farm -our dream of a getaway nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. We purchased the property and lived on-property for one year while buiding our house and barns, then moved back to Florida. For years we came up for summers as we improved the land. In June of 2015 we were finally able to move here full time and enjoy our beautiful wilderness year-round.

To walk outside each morning and hear only birdsong, rushing creeks, or wind in the leaves is a wonderful luxury in our post modern world.

What makes this cottage unique

Green Mountain Farm is a mountain cove, meaning our property line runs along the ridge tops surrounding us on three sides. The naural landscape is beautiful and timeless, causing everyone who comes here to eventually slow down and appreciate each breath here on earth.

Our love of antiques is obvious in the old log cabins we purchases and moved to the property. Being in these structures brings a quiet awe to your day that can only be felt when in the presence of history.

One of our cabins (Haven Lodge) sits next to a beautiful pond and grotto created back when Feldspar mining was done here up until the 1950's. These spaces were filled with spring water over time and have become a wonderful feature of our farm. All three of our properties are within walking distance of each other and make for a wonderful hike.

Ben and I make it a point to walk three miles each day, perhaps we'll see you!

A True Treasure

  • 5 of 5

The moment I saw this place I wish I could stay longer. The wooden house mimics the natural surroundings. We awoke amongst the trees and were greeted by horses, a goat, chickens and a super sweet lab. There are tons of trails to hike and explore the property. The house is impeccably decorated and has everything you could possibly need. We ate in the surrounding towns but the kitchen is fully stocked. Coffee and tea were provided and greatly appreciated. Firewood was staged, stacked and ready for us to build a fire as soon as we arrived. There were so many little personal touches that made us feel welcome and at home. The owners even gave us local treats to take home with us.

The skiing is a little over an hour away and worth the drive, but we would have been just as happy to relax on the property. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful place with us. We definitely will return!!!

All the comforts of home with NONE of the headaches. RELAXING OASIS

  • 5 of 5

The Property is amazing! Clean, Neat, Well Decorated, Well Furnished. The hospitality was unmatched. From the time we arrived everything was waiting for us. We were given a gate code and a key location. Inside we were greeted with elegant wood work, a nostalgic fire place, and open windows letting in the cool mountain air. The kitchen was well equipped to prepare any meal including a Keurig for morning coffee, and an information binder full of fun facts about Green Mountain farms, addresses and phone #'s from car repair, food, coffee shops to grocery stores and fun local events. Everything you'd need on your stay. We were looking more for relaxation! In the morning, after sitting on the back porch enjoying our morning coffee listening to the sounds of the forrest, we adventured out on a walk and were greeted by 2 beautiful horses, 2 black labs, and a pygmy goat named Daisy! The winding approach road made for a very relaxing stroll through the beautiful property. If you are looking for a quiet getaway to slow down, relax, and enjoy the beauty of the mountains, look no further. Ben and Brywn are terrific hosts. Well worth it. We most definitely will be returning.
