Cool, Dreamy Oceanfront Villa... "Cristal" Famously Beautiful

Bedrooms 2
Half Baths1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 5 nights

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4-8)

A gorgeous, private residence overlooking its own beautiful pool and the Caribbean Ocean awaits you with access to a small, quiet shelling beach below where you can put your toes in the azure sea or explore tidal pools.

Labeled "an architectural marvel" by delighted guests, this home has the light, cool decor and lovely design you dream of in your Caribbean paradise. The vast array of windows in this home offers you constant, breathtaking views of the Caribbean's aqua-colored water.

The entire second story is a plush master suite with a king-size, feather-topped bed and "his" and "her" vanity areas- an ideal retreat for romantics! Stunning views of a heavenly turquoise ocean fill the suite- watch the waves come in from your pillows!

Amenities in the master retreat include a new 96" projection screen theater. Honestly, the best theater experience! You may never leave your suite ... so we added a "morning kitchen" for your convenience. It includes a microwave, toaster, small fridge and water tower. The suite has a breakfast nook overlooking gorgeous scenery and a walk-in closet for storage- no hotel "sprawl".

There is a lovely guestroom on the main level with a comfy queen-size bed and bath. Airbeds are available for extra guests and there is a pretty rooftop terrace with panoramic views of the island.

Many of our guests request a chef to cook special meals during their stay and dine in the beauty of the "glass" dining room. The chef even enjoys beautiful views and the breakfast bar is great for less formal lunches or snacks. Of course there's a dishwasher and a stacked washer and dryer- the height of convenience while on holiday!

And a great location to boot! Cristal sits the ocean edge of a popular colonia where you will find great, inexpensive restaurants for authentic Mexican food, roasted chicken, slow-cooked bbq ribs, handmade tortillas, and more! There are also small tiendas and a nice grocery store nearby. We are thrilled in the last few years to see some delightful bakeries and eateries sprouting up in and around our wonderful colonia. #1, Limon', is right around the corner and is such a favorite with our guests that some have eaten there every single night of their getaway. *spoiled with goodness*

The home is *the* spot for convenience to all you will want to see and do on this tiny, charming island! Also, the "Caribe" side location is ideal for cooling breezes that are so welcome under the Caribbean sun.

And speaking more about location, our corner lot adds distance from neighbors but easy access to taxis for convenience access to all parts of the island. Or, it's a fun and easy drive in your own golf cart or scooters (we prefer scooters) from the home to the south end of Isla with its surreal water (would it be weird to say I felt like I was swimming in watercolors?) for snorkeling and zip lines, or to the western beach clubs and spas for relaxation, to the north beach's swing seat bars or to the "downtown" area for shopping and dancing.

However, the best part for us, was coming home to watch the ships going by under the moon as they passed in the shipping lanes and listening to the waves. or putting down the theater screen and creating the greatest cinema experience on Earth.

Check out these recent entries we found in our guest book: "Willie and Michelle- what a pleasure it has been to deal with you- I could feel your kindness over the phone- no small feat!"; "You have created such a tranquil retreat! Everything reflects the beauty of the water and the island."; "We loved every moment in your beautiful home."; "Its MTV Cribs @ Cristal! Cristal Isla Rocks!"; "Casa Cristal was magnificent!"; "Casa Cristal is a beautiful home with stunning views."; "The house has amazing views and so many places to enjoy them. We found so many quaint shops and wonderful places to eat. One of our favorite things to do was watch a movie before we went to bed... thank you Will & Michelle for sharing your gorgeous home with us. We couldn't imagine a better place to spend our honeymoon"; "We loved staying here and everything about the house. "Beautiful home in a beautiful setting- just what we needed"; What a wonderful place to spend our 15th wedding anniversary! Casa Cristal was perfect! "The house is just spectacular. Love the movie screen upstairs and all the beautiful windows overlooking the ocean. You can't get this at home! "Wow, how fast 10 days go by. What a great house to rent. We enjoyed everything... found it hard to leave our retreat here. I will miss the house... thank you for sharing your home... it was a fantastic experience!"

Comments sent to us from our most recent guests:

"We had a wonderful time. By far it was our most treasured Christmas with our kids and your home and the locale made it a huge hit... Your home is stunning. We loved the layout, the amazing movie screen upstairs (we watched a movie every night with our kids which we haven't done since they were little), and the pool was perfect. The terrace was another favorite spot. The kids actually slept up there a couple times. The kitchen was great...We loved being away from town and our ride to and from home was nice and easy in the golf cart." Gary and Cindy

"Michelle...we love Cristal, and hope to come back again next year!! Your home... is truly amazing. Thank you again for sharing it with us...we felt like a king and queen in our own private kingdom!! The view is to die for, we could have sat upstairs in the master and looked out at the sea for hours on end. That blue green water.......ahhhhhh!! Cristal has every creature comfort one could ask for (and more!) The refrigerator was so well stocked, the only beverage we needed to buy (besides some tequila!), was the delicious orange juice we bought from the grocer. We slept up on the roof several nights (thanks to Will for suggesting that possibility to us!). It was so comfy and cool-and with the sound of the waves crashing, we slept like babies. Jorge cooked a gourmet 3 course meal for us one night, complete with flowers and candlelight. Driving around the island by golfcart was a fun activity in itself- and Val never got enough of shelling, she'd risk life and limb for that perfect conch!!! We had a fabulous vacation on Isla- at Cristal. As we said, we'd like to bring the family back for spring break '09. Thanks for everything!!!" Val and Bob

"Your Casa was both beautiful and well appointed. We spent a few days at the Ixchel Hotel & Condos at Playa Norte which was very nice but the accommodations could not compare...I would highly recommend your wonderful Casa to anyone visiting Isla Mujeres and we do hope someday to return." Ray

And here's some unique info you might like from a guest who stayed in May 2015:

"Casa Cristal was as beautiful as the pictures represented. We had a fabulous time in Isla Mujeres and returned very relaxed ... the rooftop is amazing and probably the best place for cool island breezes no matter what time of day. We actually slept there the very first night. Additionally, the pool water remained refreshingly cool the entire week despite mid 90' temperatures. I am guessing that cold water is constantly circulated into the pool. Finally, the convenience of the bar at Villa la Bella and breakfast at Caribe Brisas / Mango was fantastic and great for morning/evening walks. Dining offers great diversification in both taste and ambience. Two of our favorites were La Lomita at the outer edges of Centro offering some of the most authentic Mexican dishes and extremely good chile rellenos. Limon was also a great experience with a fantastic presentation of the beef carpaccio and succulent caribbean lobster. Although we arrived at 7:30 pm, our meal was paced according to our schedule with subsequent courses not fired until the prior course was cleared. The owner personally served and attended to all tables while grilling entrees. At the end of the meal, we lingered with a snifter of aged rum and the owner sat with us for a long time eventually driving us home despite the short walk. Finally, we could not have been in a better place for sashimi as the black grouper and red snapper were impeccably fresh and plated with flare utilizing local spices and herbs. Two recommended sashimi spots are Villa Rollandi in the Secrets resort on the West side of the Island and Asian Caribe in Centro (although the sushi rolls are less impressive).

For the tequila lover - Adelita's is unbeatable. I sampled 10 tequilas that I had not seen in the US (including repesados and anejos) and my wife sampled 10 mezcals. She did not expect to find such a diverse variety in one location but found three new mezcal's that she enjoyed.

Thank you again! By the way - Cancun Valet was very professional and strongly recommended." Robert Babst

Loved every minute of it!

  • 5 of 5

This is our 2nd to last day of an 8 day stay and we are slowly coming to accept that we will have to leave soon. The house and location are awesome! We ended up spending most days in Playa Norte so the golf carts came in handy and were lots of fun. We then either returned downtown for dinner or ate at many of the restaurants in the neighborhood. You won't be disappointed! We hope to return soon!

Perfect Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Let me start out by saying our family of 4 undeniably thought this was one of THE best vacation we have taken together!! Prior to arrival and upon arrival, Beto, the house manager was phenomenal. He had a golf cart ready and waiting for us, scheduled our snorkeling, deep sea fishing and our private chef to come and cook right at Casa Cristal! Beto was full of information about the island and was able to get us great deals directly through people he personally knew on the island, as well as recommendations on restaurants and sites.

Casa Cristal itself was very spacious and accommodating. All the wonderful reviews about the house were spot on! It's truly one of the most beautiful homes on the island. We enjoyed having our own kitchen to cook in and our own pool to come back and relax in. The view of the island and water are amazing from all angles just as the reviews say!

We're a family from Minnesota and were well aware there maybe an insect or two (we have plenty in MN), but NEVER encountered anything like some of the previous reviews that stated it was "ant infested". If you keep your food properly stored you should have no problems with insects!

Would definitely visit Cristal again, beautiful place! Beto made our experience top notch, big KUDOS to him!

Thanks again for a wonderful trip!

Piece of Heaven on Earth

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we pulled up to Casa Cristal, I knew this would be a memorable vacation! The minute the gate opened the pool called my name! I literally put my bags in the house, put my bathing suit on and jumped in. The house is amazing. The floor to ceiling windows just exude a peaceful, relaxing mood. Every little detail is provided, from the rooftop canopy bed to the master bedroom projection tv, the huge jetted tub, too many to mention! Isla Mujeres is a great island but some nights we found it hard to leave the comforts of the house to go to town for meals...and you can even have food delivered or a chef come in to cook for you! Don't hesitate to book here. Everyone is so helpful and accommodating. Can't wait to go back next year!

Perfect romantic home in paradise

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Casa Cristal for 19 days recently. The home is a perfect romantic getaway. The decor is beautiful. The rooms are very spacious. The views from each level of the house are spectacular. You can enjoy the sunrise and sunset from the rooftop. All the amenities you need are provided. We enjoyed the huge jetted tub tremendously. It is nice to have a separate his and hers area in the huge upstairs bathroom area. You feel as though you are on your own private ship overlooking the ocean as you awaken each morning. The owner, Michelle, was wonderful with responding to any communication quickly, and was always a pleasure to talk to. Our favorite coaching take place is just a walk around the corner which was an added bonus we enjoyed. You can also walk to a small grocery on the corner. It is easier to have a golf cart in this location, but we did not have any trouble getting a cab to venture out. I would highly recommend this casa.

Love Isla...Love Cristal!

  • 5 of 5

We took a return trip with some friends to Isla and decided to stay at Cristal! It is just as great and wonderful as the pictures look. The views were amazing and the view when you wake up in the morning from the master is breathtaking. Great breeze from the balconies. Very well appointed as all the almost the entire side of the house facing the ocean is windows...great design. Norma greeted us when we arrived and she is fantastic. Gave a great overview of the house and amenities. Our only regret is that we didn't have time for her to cook for us ;-) Next time! Great home....won't be disappointed.

Very disappointed.

  • 2 of 5

Just got back from 12 days at Cristal. Not sure where to start. The house is pretty nice. The down stairs couch you can't sit on without getting leather pieces on you. The couch is deteriorating. Now the BIG issue. We were robbed. They came in while we were sleeping. The perpetrators entered thru a sliding window downstairs. I was not aware it even opened. Large plant is in front of it. The lock was so corroded, that if you locked it, it would not stay locked. I have video of the lock before they fixed it. Which leads me to the next point. The owners have a house manager named Monica. Not sure if she is very honest. She told the owners the we were leaving windows opened while we were away from the house. This could not be further from the truth. I would not leave windows, doors unlocked or opened while we were away or while we were sleeping. We had 2, 14 year old girls sleeping downstairs. I would not jeopardize their safety by leaving doors and windows open while we slept. The owners I guess believe the house manager versus the renters. Material things can be replaced luckily no one was hurt. I will never recommend nor'easter will I ever stay here again. I'm an honest person, and don't like to be blamed for being robbed because of someone else's negligence. We were on vacation, I don't feel we should be responsible for making sure locks work on windows. That's the properties manager and owners responsibility. Yet the manager tells the owners she checks everything all the time. Funny thing is we never met this Monica. Even after we were robbed, nothing from her. Just lies.

Owner's Response: 1st: We were grieved for this family to hear they were robbed while staying at the house. We’ve been fortunate in the 8yrs prior to this event that no guests have reported experiencing any crime during their stay. This should never happen to anyone especially not while on vacation. We haven’t actually received much detail from the guest about the incident. He has chosen not to discuss it with us, has not shared with us the video he describes here & has not sent us a police report (we've since learned he didn't file one). Monica, whom the guest is upset to have never met, was the first to inform us of the robbery. She had a locksmith replace the lock immediately & had multiple other workers greeting, cleaning the house, pool (daily) & landscaping during the guest’s 12-night stay. The guest implies he was neglected by this manager. In reality, she was responsive to their needs at every turn. Their caretaker was Norma, whom he didn't mention. Monica reported a worker stopped by the house and noticed windows open while the guest was away. When we asked him if the locks worked at that time or in his 1st 8 days, he became angry. 2nd: Being located 40 ft from the ocean does cause corrosion, so we routinely check & replace items. However, stuff may break or become dysfunctional during a guest’s stay, so we rely on the guest to notify our manager when anything stops working. Monica will have the items fixed or replaced immediately. If you ask her for just about anything, Monica will provide it for you. 3rd: We were happy to discuss any comfort, assurance, or amenities the guest may be seeking in the wake of such of an awful event (regardless of our part in it). This guest however hasn't asked us for anything or had a conversation w us about the situation. The truth is, we can't know for certain if or when the lock began to malfunction or even if the window was, in fact, closed at the time. We don't know why the block wouldn't be in the slider. The reviewer says the lock would not have worked due to corrosion. Since part of the lock was found outside the house, the guest is guessing it didn't or wouldn't have worked since he claims he never used the window. 4th: Traditional trip insurance is invaluable & inexpensive. 5th: Please rest assured, there are functioning locks & blocking bars for the sliding windows. 6th: Our custom leather couch is being reupholstered due to damage caused by a recent guest whose children likely often sat on it wet after swimming.

Although you never have to leave the house to see wonderful sights such as turtles returning to the island to lay eggs and schools of dolphins playing in front of the house, many guests explore the island and enjoy a different excursion each day such as relaxing at Zama Beach Club on the west side, zipping and snorkeling at Garoffon Reef Park on the south end, swinging on the seats at North Beach bars then sightseeing and snorkeling around the island to see the Underwater Museum and Cross of the Bay.

There are other fabulous diving and fishing opportunities around the Great Mayan Reef, a malecon (sea wall), Mayan ruins, shark and dolphin experiences, a turtle farm, special tours to Isla Contoy Reserve and the famous excursions to swim with whale sharks (local guides and crew are certified for these special tours!)

You will have many wonderful, unforgettable experiences during your stay!

The house is in the ideal location for enjoying the whole island then luxuriating in a peaceful respite at "home" watching the moonlit shipping lanes and listening to the waves from your pillows. Ahhhh, the good life.
