About Chipper Roth
My mother first brought us to San Miguel in 1962-64 to study Spanish at the Instituto Allende, driving each summer from Birmingham, Alabama. After 40 years, I returned to SMA in 2011 and thought, "Better than ever!" After graduating from Berkeley in Poli Sci in 1970, I worked with Head Start in Appalachia. Returning to the Bay Area, I was in the first teacher training program at the Iyengar Yoga institute, and taught yoga for many years. During a trip around the world, I met my future husband, a Basque climber, at Everest Base Camp. We founded and operated an adventure travel company, outfitting climbing and luxury hiking trips in Spain, France, Portugal, Nepal, and Peru. During this period I returned to UC Berkeley for a Masters in Public Health and also became licensed to practice Acupuncture and Chinese medicine. I moved to British Columbia in 1996, and built a cottage on the ocean in Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands). I love dogs, books, music, dance, and Mexico.

Why Chipper Roth chose San Miguel de Allende
Casa del Suenos was the first property I looked at when i began looking in 2011. I loved the location across from the Instituto Allende where I studied in in the 1960s-----it felt like coming home! It was formerly the art school and studios of the painter Keith Keller.
What makes this Apartment unique
relaxed refined yet informal and cozy. Being at the top and at rooftop over stunning San Miguel feels up up and away,, yet two flights down and out the door you are in the throbbing pulse of our magic town.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
This rental has an excellent location close to Centro. Also close to Saturday market and to smaller stores especially fruit and vegetables up the hill, and also a laundry. Very easy to find taxis just outside the front door. Great views from sunny penthouse rooftop terrace and from bedroom window, Very attractive plants and art throughout the building. King sized bed very comfortable. Owners were attentive to our few needs and had helpful suggestions for first time visitors to this beautiful historic city. Many excellent restaurants to select from.
Great Views Great Location Great Host
Chipper and Peter's top floor apartment was the perfect spot for our first visit to SMA. Views of the Parroquia from every room make you really feel connected to the city. Excellent restaurants just steps from the apartment and only a 10 min walk to El Jardin. Chipper and Peter were super helpful with anything we needed and offered great recommendations. We loved our stay so much we already booked a return trip next year.
We stayed for 5 weeks and got to experience the Dia de los Muertos festival. The residents of SMA very super friendly and very helpful. Bonus. This property has a whole house water filtration system which really takes the worry out of daily living.
Captures the beauty of San Miguel
Thank you so much Chipper and staff for making our visit magical!
i have been renting apartments for some 40 years, when catalogs were being mailed and it was all done by phone and snail mail. i also have rented my own house out in palm springs with vrbo, so i have been on both sides.
this apartment was all that it claimed to be and chipper was absolutely delightful to deal with and very attentive. there is a view from every room and the kitchen is well detailed. there was a lovely breeze every night that made sitting on our private patio enjoying the view even more delicious.
An excellent location from which to experience San Miguel de Allende—night and day
This a first class top floor apartment with view of downtown historic San Miguel de Allende from every room. The kitchen is well equipped with first class stainless steel pots and pans—no light weight teflon covered stuff here. The host knows quality. We very much appreciate this. All rooms and the outside sitting area on one level—very convenient. This makes it so easy to use all the features of the apartment.
Disappointed and left within the hour as quickly as I could arrange alternative accommodations
My wife and I were expecting to be staying in an penthouse apartment of a private home with private access. The unit was accessed via a courtyard containing several rented rooms with shared living area and common kitchen. A nearby enterprise or restaurant was venting a greasy smell over the roof top terrace. The unit was clean and appeared to be a fairly convenient and level walk to the town center but located on a very busy and somewhat noisy street. We never unpacked, immediately made arrangements for alternative accommodations, and left within the hour of arriving.
We are sorry that these guests were disappointed, and commend them for taking care of themselves by finding other accommodations. There are hundreds of places to choose from in San Miguel, for every taste and location. Our guests return year after year for the convenience of the location, the stellar views, the spaciousness, airiness, and sunny penthouse, the friendliness of our other guests, and the value for money. (Our penthouse costs less than the average hotel room in San Miguel)
We have never had anyone comment about "smells from a restaurant," and we are not over or next to one. We described to them beforehand exactly the entrance to the penthouse, from the second floor of the main house, which was indeed occupied as it normally is.
This goes to show you can't please everyone!
