Lune Mill River House

Lune Mill house, Lune Mill Road in the far South

Only one of its kind. Once the timber mill manager's house. On the edge of world heritage wilderness and beautiful waterways. Absolute waterfront, perched on the banks of one of the world's most pristine rivers.

Rustic but comfortable with power, plenty of hot water, digital tv. 3 bedrooms 1 double, 1 family room( queen bed and bunks) 1 bedroom with bunks (king single) . Up to 8 persons but prefer couples. Prefer you to bring own linen as we are on tank water however we have an emergency supply. Total peace and quiet.

Do not be expecting luxury, it is not , it is our holiday home with gum boots in the corner. If you are after night life and restaurants this is not for you. If you are after 5 star luxury this is not for you. If you are a serious bushwalker, caver, etc , fossiker, or like us, just want to chill out by the open fire or fish from the jetty it is just the spot. Fancy getting cooked? Enjoy our wood-heated outdoor bath by the riverside.

8 km from Hastings caves and hot Springs,
Southport beach, Cockle Creek, Recherche Bay.
1 .1/2 hours south of Hobart on the scenic route via Huonville and Dover

Unfortunately we are not pet or party friendly.

The property was, as is listed, great spot, we caught fish on the jetty. My unhappiness was that the price had dropped by 50 a day when we stayed versus what we paid a month earlier, and to top it off we had to take our rubbish with us and pay at the local tip.

Amazing location ill give it that. Deck onto the river is fantastic. House is rustic but with plenty of rooms. A little bit too pricey given its not exactly luxury but has two bathrooms with good water pressure and most of the beds are comfy. Down side was Not enough wood for wood heater or outside fire and it was green wood, enough for maybe one night so it didnt burn hot enough to warm even the lounge room. Wifi very good considering the remote location

:-) We really enjoyed our stay at Lune River. The location is incredible with amazing views on the river and very quiet nights and mornings watching the stars and birds from the decking. The house is very close to all local attractions such as Hastings caves and baths, Mystery creek caves, Cockle creek etc which was for us the main reason for booking. We also certainly enjoyed taking a bath by the river. :-( Listing very accurate with everything needed present, although some of it dusty/rusty as a lot of the house is in quite old state. Would benefit from a proper renovation, but has an old charm to it. Do not count on cooking extensively, stove is very slow. We arrived in a very cold house (10*C), with no firewood and impossibility to turn on all heaters as the same time due to electricity issues (network fine for most appliances, just not light cooking heaters on). Lesley kindly assisted to get us urgently more firewood and we managed to get th place seemingly hot for the first night. We would have organised our day differently if we had known the place was so cold.

Lovely location very rustic but to be expected of a historical house. Access to water was fun definitely had to keep an eye on our little one but always have to anyway.

We absolutely loved our 5 nights at Lune Mill River House over New Years. We were just a family of 4, but the house would also be suitable for 2 famillies. Yes, it is basic and a bit old, but that's what makes it so real. It was also a step back in time with old photos on the walls, and even multiple tape and cd players! We didn't use these but it was fun to explain to the kids how we used to listen to music. Sitting on the deck with a morning coffee looking across the river with birds to make the only sounds was just bliss. For those into fishing this might be a good spot too. Thank you for making this house available for holiday rental, it feels like it carries many good memories and is still making more.

Fabulous location, but no communication from host, including how to access the property, the property had not been cleaned from the previous guests. However the cleaner Angie was very helpful.Needs a very good and through clean including the linen.

Sunrise Stay at Lune Mill River House

We had a wonderful few days staying at the Lune Mill River House. It was great to wake up, open the curtains, and see the sun rise on the river from the bed. The view of the river was amazing.

Autumn get away at Lune river

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this historic, character filled property set in such a beautiful location. It's not for those seeking ultimate cleanliness and new style interior but for us it had the atmosphere we enjoy. We look forward to returning in the future

Adventure

We understood it was a 100 year old house that was rustic so we were prepared for anything. Loved our stay. Comfortable beds and good showers so no complaints. Caught a fish from the jetty. I would love to do the Reno's on the house while keeping the character of the house. We loved the seclusion and quiet. It was all quite an adventure.
