A getaway for those who love immersing themselves in wildlife and nature.
About Fleur Leslie
“Not all those who wander are lost.” – J. R. R Tolkien Remember that famous line from Alice in Wonderland as she heads down the rabbit hole into a strange new world of untold imagination. “Curiouser and curiouser!” Well that’s the way we hope you feel about our 10 unique wonderlands. Duffelbird’s flock of getaways are for those with a heart for adventure – places where you can unwind or unravel, let your existential selves hang free to ponder life and love, under the stars, away from the noise – immersed in nature. Our hidden gems are rich in character and layered in mystery, no more than 2.5 hours out of Melbourne – a converted steam train in the Otways, a mid-century charmer on the fringe of an orchid forest, a glass fronted masterpiece overlooking the wild waters of Westernport – each of them tucked away in some of the most unspoilt corners of Victoria, waiting for you to explore with wide eyes and wonder. Bring your well-mannered dogs. Let them roam free, (just not on the furniture) while you settle in to our sometimes quirky, often eclectic, always whimsical, hideaways. *All 10 properties allow pets, only 7/10 allow pets inside. We’ve felt privileged to have had some 'out there experiences' like the ritual Burning Man in the Nevada desert, deep in the jungles of Costa Rica and atop the volcanic peaks of many Pacific islands. And we want to give all the quirky travellers out there a chance to awaken that ‘wanderlust’ energy. Because we all need time out so we don’t go bonkers in the real world. Go on, escape the chaos, experience the enrichment of nature, the magic of complete abandonment, the inspiration of new surrounds. Let Dufflebird be your tour guide to a wildly curious life. Rabbit hole to Wonderland, right this way. Fleur and Mike

Why Fleur Leslie chose Walkerville
It was painstakingly built with recycled material, by hand. Not many people are prepared to take the time to craft things like that these days. It is surrounded by bush-land to the rear and farmland to the front offering views down the neighbours paddock. Your only neighbours are cows, sheep and wildlife.

Relax your Body and Mind!
Liptrap Loft was truely an experience to savour. Thank you Fleur for being attentive, informative and welcoming. The loft was so rejuvenating and interesting, we hardly wanted to leave it! The longer we stayed, the more detail we noticed in its wonderful design and style. We particularly enjoyed its cosy, homely atmosphere, the fire, and soaking in the open bathhouse of an evening . All this in a beautiful rural setting..... gang cockatoos in the trees, a resident koala. Even a “ magic beach” close by. The days rolled by.....It was easy to unravel here without a care in the world.
Thanks Michelle for your lovely comments. We have found that the guests who stay longer than 3 days seem to give the most positive feedback. Guests who like you, stay for more than 7 nights seem to be the most enchanted by the property.
It was everything we hoped for and more. Time to relax away from everything. Very comfortable and the Japanese bathhouse was very unique.
Thanks for staying Jayson and for the very pleasant upbeat communication. It is great to hear the place meet your expectations as I know you were very excited about staying. We hope you come back again and you are certainly welcome anytime.
One of the most wonderful places to be in all of Victoria
Thanks Glen, what a fabulous compliment. Thank you equally for being an absolute pleasure to host.
A peaceful getaway
The Liptrap Loft really is a spectacular space. Beautiful architecture set on expansive acreage makes for the perfect secluded getaway.
Comfortable space with really everything you need. Warm, easy to heat, comfortable bed, sparkling clean, a pretty well stocked kitchen with a good selection of basics for cooking including spices, oils, sauces.
The bathhouse is amazing, especially on a cold and rainy day.
My only comment is that it isn't always easy to take your rubbish with you but that was only minor and we were informed of this prior to our arrival.
Thanks Kimberley for taking the time to leave a thoughtful review. The lack of rubbish collection in the Cape Liptrap region is related to its remoteness. Composting on the property helps reduce waste to be carried out and there are many transfer stations/tips in the area to help all locals and visitors manage their waste. So pleased you enjoyed the seclusion, amenities and space and had a peaceful getaway. Thank you for your lovely comments.
Gorgeous house in a beautiful location. Lovely roaring fire with plenty of wood. Amazing bath house. Really enjoyed our stay.
Thanks for reviewing your stay Alice. The wood heater ( and generous supply of wood) and the bath tub are definitely two features frequently mentioned by guests as highlights. Simple pleasures :)
Don’t want to tell anyone else about it..
Great stay.. exactly right for us. Simple, elegant, basics done well.
that is a fabulous compliment as that is exactly what we love too when we rent ' Getaway ' properties.
Less is more. We love it when operators get the basics right. When you have everything you need, but no excess and clutter.
We have put a lot of thought into the supplies we leave and the list is constantly evolving and refined. Surveying guests has helped with this.
