Overview

About the property

"Bear's Den Lodge" is nestled in the foothills of the Smoky Mountain National Park. This cabin has it all just minutes away from the attractions of Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg, yet quietly tucked away in one of the premier communities of Wears Valley.

When you first arrive at the cabin you will find that there's plenty of flat parking for at least 5 vehicles. From there its just a few steps to get to the main level with a classic cabin porch featuring your usual rocking chairs!

Before entering the Cabin you will also notice the new extra-large entertainment deck where you can dine outside or just sit and enjoy the Smoky Mountains.

Once you go inside the cabin you will enter into the living room, dining room & kitchen. For those who can't do stairs, no problem, the master King bedroom & large oversize bathroom are located on this main level.Talk about the Master bathroom, wait to you see it... besides the large double vanity sink, the main feature is the antique Clawfoot Tub and authentic pull-cord toilet !! This is definitely not your typical cabin bath! The Master bedroom also has it's own private deck and lounge chairs!

Upstairs in the loft is the 2nd bedroom with a king bed and if you need more sleeping accommodations, there is even a full size futon sofa-bed. You will also find a full size bathroom on this level with stall shower.

Downstairs there is the 3ed bedroom with a Queen bed & full bath. In the game room you can play a game of pool, watch Direct TV or play a game of cards. Also located in the game room are our featured double bunk bed's that sleep 4 more guests and we even have and a full size sofa bed for additional sleeping if needed.

What also makes this cabin extra special is that the cabin is located down a long private driveway with just one other neighboring cabin. It's a super private and tranquil location and you still have breathtaking mountain views!

Thank You for considering our wonderful cabin.....and God Bless

Very nice cabin

  • 4 of 5

Overall, this was a lovely cabin but I need to remember that the pictures on VRBO are deceiving as we did think this cabin would be bigger. We had 6 adults and 1 five year old and the main floor is tight but there was a lovely Christmas tree on this floor. The king bed in the loft was amazing but the heat from the fireplace had us place someone cooler than a menopausal lady up there. If you run the fireplace, the heat raises to the loft which makes it hot and it is very difficult to heat the basement with the thermostat upstairs. The private road to the cabin was narrow, tricky and little scary for a couple of my adult daughters. My son-in-law did fall on the front steps so be warned as the roof drips from the frost in one bad spot. The kitchen was adequate but the faucets on the sink don't have a stopping point to shut off. We only cooked breakfast in the cabin. Loved the timer on the coffee pot as I love my coffee ready when I wake up. Stairs to basement are a little steep but we enjoyed the pool table and nice Sony TV along with the hot tub. Bedroom in basement is the best room, dark and quiet. Towels and linens are fine but towels could be a little bigger, they don't cover well. The shower head in the loft needs to be replaced, it shoots a funny spray and that is a tight shower. Too cold for us to enjoy the nice big deck. The back yard is very steep but parking in front is great. Fortunately plenty of area on the road to walk our small dog.

Bears den lodge was very spacious and granted all the quiet time we needed.

  • 4 of 5

There are a few comments I would like to leave. The claw foot tub is a nice touch but as others have stated as well it is dangerously slippery. We bought a tub mat and left it there for others to use. Also, the downstairs carpet is in desperate need of replacing as well as the "mat" under the dining room table. The cabin was very clean in spite of those few things that need replacing. Thank you for the opportunity to spend our girl trip at bear's den.

Owner's Response: Susan, Thank you for your stay at Bears Den Lodge, we truly appreciate you choosing to spend your vacation at our cabin. Just wanted to let you know that both carpets you mentioned were actually steam cleaned just after your stay. Apparently the previous guests just before your stay had a large group of children and had tracked in "dirty shoes" during their stay which it had rained quite a bit. Since they had vacated on the same day you arrived, we couldn't schedule the cleaners till after your stay. Good news is that everything is perfect at the cabin once again! Best Regards, Dave & Jessy

Hope to return

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time celebrating a bachelor party at the cabin for a four-day weekend. It included everything we were told it would and then some. The views were amazing, and plenty of fun was had. We hope to return to this place in the future.

Beautiful cabin with spectacular views.

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 11 teens and 3 adults had an amazing time at Bear's Den Lodge. There was plenty of room inside but a large portion of our time was spent on the deck gathered around the picnic table.

The drive in was gorgeous. We were glad that we did not have a trailer because the road to the cabin does have some very tight turns and really steep inclines. At one point it's so steep that it feels like going over the first drop on a roller coaster - at a much slower rate. Sounds intimidating but it was no problem for our Honda Odyssey fully loaded with seven people, luggage, and a large cooler full of ice and food.

The cabin itself is roomy and has good views. There is one other cabin at the end of the road but it did not take away from the atmosphere of being in a secluded mountain cabin. There was enough hot water that even with six or seven people showering back to back no one ever complained about the water getting cold.

The kitchen is well stocked with cookware and dinnerware. The can opener was tough to use but it got the job done. Could use a newer coffee maker, that one is tricky and a prior visitor had rigged the filter basket so that the coffee could dispense into the carafe while brewing.

Overall it was a fabulous visit. The kids had fun playing pool and just gathering together on the deck and around the cabin. The adults could be observant without being obtrusive which is nice for teenagers. If you have a large group and need a place to stay I would absolutely recommend this cabin.

We even met the owner when he came to do a small repair in one of the bathrooms. David was very nice and welcoming. It is great that he operates the rental himself. Dealing with an actual owner is usually my preference. He responded quickly to my inquiries before we booked the reservation and when we arrived early he was available when I called and allowed us to go ahead and enter the cabin. Great service, David. Thank you.
