A perfect hidden gem
The location and hospitality can’t be beat. We enjoyed the beach, hot tubs, nearby hikes, and bike rides. Don and Arlene are extremely helpful in navigating the area and making you feel at home. The house is well equipped with Internet, cooking equipment, coffee, etc. We can’t wait to come back again!
First, Don and Arleen and Tracker are incredible hosts! They made sure the vacation was memorable for our family and friends. The house is clean and very well appointed; we had everything we needed. Two hot tubs, two grills, beautiful sandy beach and an ATV makes lake living easy. You can burn off a few vacation calories on the walk back to the house from the beach but well worth it. We really enjoyed our 13 day stay! Oh, and did I mention the Seaplane...Thanks Don, Arlene and Tracker. We hope to see you all again soon.
Resort style vacation
We had an amazing stay at Don and Arlene's magical Squam Lake house. We did all the things! Kayaked, lake swims, hot tubs, Beach lounging, ping pong, fire pits, bike rides, runs and hikes. The house and kitchen is fully equipped. The living room is a great chill space with a fireplace. The hosts are so hospitable and warm. We didn't want to leave :)
Thank you for staying with us an extra week. You guys are fun! That was the most bonfires we have had in years. What a great idea to work from Squam Lake. Please come back soon.
Incredible house, great views - only thing better are the hosts
My wife, dog and I rented the Squam Lake home over Columbus Day weekend. The house and views were everything that was advertised plus more. As experienced renters, we are used to descriptions that stretch a bit, but the home and property were better than expected. From the outside fire pit, to the walk down to the sandy beach and 3 docks, easy to use kitchen and meeting and playing with Trekker, this weekend trip was turning out to be exactly what we needed. What topped it off was not just the surrounding areas, but the hospitality of the hosts. Don and Arlene had a "ready to light" fire ready for us in their big fireplace, right next to the huge big screen smart TV (plus DVD player) as the temperature was in the 30's at night. They go out of their way to please, giving us privacy when we needed some quiet time but yet are always ready to answer any question about the house, generously allow us to use their kayak and canoe, and offering great suggestions on local attractions, events and restaurants. Thank you for a great vacation - we will definitely be back next year.
Thank you for your kind review Chester. You and your wife are lovely people. Something we enjoy most about hosting is meeting people like you. Guests come from different places and we get to show them why we love Squam. We all know our home world the best. It can be helpful to have us as a local expert to show people why we love it here. On the other hand, we greatly respect people’s privacy. When I look back at the happy photo of your wife’s expression with you, it makes everything worthwhile.
Miko Memorial weekend
What a beautiful place and setting to spend an unforgettable New Hampshire weekend. Don and Arlene made everything so special for us and we will always be grateful for their generosity and hospitality.
Thanks for staying with us for the Mico Ride weekend. Your event was wonderful as usual.

Hikes along the Squam range are the closest and provide a beautiful view of the lakes region. Snowmobile trails are accessible from the property that lead to Canada, Maine and Vermont. We connect to Primary Trail 204 to Corridor 8 and Corridor 11 snowmobile trails. When conditions allow we plow an ice skate loop on Little Squam. Our hospitality book suggests hikes, bike rides, dinner places and many other ideas for things to do around Squam Lake.

About Donald Stoppe
Owners Don and Arlene Stoppe have lived in the Squam lakes area since we met at Plymouth State College in the early 1980s. Don is an avid water skier competing in barefoot water ski competitions. Both Don and Arlene love bicycling around our area, snow skiing and snowmobiling. Arlene plows a skate loop around Little Squam Lake in the winter when conditions allow. We live in the cottage next door to the west on Little Squam with our Golden Retriever Tracker. We have been involved in residential and commercial real estate rentals since 1984. We both enjoy meeting guests and sharing what we love about living in the Squam region of New Hampshire. We are happy to set up bikes to fit you properly. We can also give you suggestions on fun things to do in the area like hiking, biking, boating, skiing and snowmobiling. Our goal is to under promise and overdeliver. Your privacy is of the utmost importance to us. We can be available or almost invisible. Although there are 2 separate waterfront lots, guests are welcome to use the two deep water docks on our side. We keep a ski boat on one and our seaplane on the dock on your beach. The lower hot tub is available for all of us and the upper hot tub is your private one. The canoe and kayaks are on your beach. You are welcome to use the watersports gear and wetsuits from our shed. Don and Arlene are both pilots. The seaplane is the most fun toy I have ever had. We love to ride our motorcycles and can share great motorcycle routes. Arlene is the treasurer of the Plymouth Flying Club and Secretary of the Squam Trail Busters Snowmobile Club and American Barefoot Club. Don grooms snowmobile and cross country ski trails around the Squam area and is an ATP and a certified flight instructor. Arlene has a road bicycle ride she organizes on Tuesday evenings. On Wednesdays in July and August from 2-7 PM we host an adaptive water ski program and BBQ at the beach. Guests are invited to join in and help.

Why Donald Stoppe chose Ashland
This is one of the nicest beaches on the lake. You are surrounded by large tree forests and sounds of nature. The living room fireplace is wonderful for a cozy evening get together. This is a year round home. Kayaks and a canoe are available as well as bicycles for our guests. There are beautiful hikes all around the property. Outstanding mountain hikes are less than 15 minutes away.
What makes this House unique
This is a year round home that is finished nicely inside. We run a dehumidifier year round to keep it fresh. The living room has air conditioning as well as a/c in one queen bedroom upstairs. The location is excellent for a ski house vacation rental. You are 15-35 minutes from 6 snow ski areas. Loon Mountain, Waterville Valley, Cannon Mountain, Gunstock Ski Area, Ragged Mountain and Tenney Mountain ski area. We have a ski tuning bench in the basement with an iron for waxing your skis. There is direct access to hiking and snowmobile trails from the house.
