Welcome to the Sideways House, named for its gracious entrance located on the side of the home, and a nod to the iconic movie that put wine tasting on the map. This stately home was built in 1926 and is perfectly located on one of "old" Lodi's most desirable tree-lined streets walking distance to tasting rooms, restaurants, theaters, parks and downtown.
This gorgeous home has been recently redecorated and lovingly brought back to her original grandeur. There is a large living room with beautiful, original molding, hardwood floors and grand windows. Ample comfortable seating is provided and a flatscreen TV, and fireplace will help you feel right at home. The living room opens up into a fun bar area that also provides access to the outside eating area. The beautiful, large dining room seats 8. The kitchen is well equipped with new appliances. (The home can be stocked with groceries if so desired) A cute, sunny kitchen eating area welcomes you in and offers a wonderful view of the large yard, fish pond and bocce court.
There are four beautifully appointed bedrooms which accommodate up to eight guests. Fine linens, down comforters (Non down bedding may be requested), robes and comfortable beds await you. Lisa Isola purchased this house in 2008
There are many VRBO's to choose from in the Lodi area. The Sideways House is unique in that it is adjacent to Perfect Balance's Hideaway. This full service facility is right out your back door and spa packages are available. Perfect for a wedding stay, couples' weekend, girls' getaway or for anyone who just needs some pampering and downtime, this home is your ideal spot.
If you are looking for the perfect home for family trip, girlfriends trip, just a get out of town trip.......this is the place. This home is perfect from the location, décor, bedding, robes, toiletries, hotel quality towels, cleanliness, sparkling clean kitchen with everything you could possibly need and a gracious, efficient host, Lisa. She is spot on with info and quick communication. We were welcomed with a delicious breakfast cake, a bottle of local wine and fresh flowers. I have rented around 12 VRBOs and this is in the top 2 by far !!!!! Look no further, you have found it.
We were here for 3 nights for our nieces wedding at The Viaggio. We had guests that ranged from 17 years of age to 86 and the house was voted a 10 !!!! Nancy - Elk Grove
We enjoyed a girls' "staycation", and spa retreat at Sideways House and everything was wonderful from start to finish. We were treated with wine, upon arrival, and the decor and condition of the home are stellar. The resources provided in terms of things to do in Lodi, a well-stocked kitchen, comfy beds, great showers and towels, and even treats! The attention to detail is evident. The tasteful decor, light airy rooms, and responsiveness are impeccable. I would highly recommend this and would give it a 10, if I could!
WOW! The house and decor appear to be a model home for catalogues or movie sets -- just perfect! We went to Lodi to celebrate my mom's 70th birthday and the New Year. The owners were so thoughtful and left a cake, candles, and a bottle of wine for us. We were 5 adults and two toddlers so the rooms worked out perfectly for our family. The house is located just a couple of blocks from the downtown area. Next time we would love to take advantage of the spa. We are already trying to come up with another excuse to go back and stay here again! Thank you so much for making our stay so special and for letting us into your home. Happy New Year!!!
The house is amazing and very comfortable. It was like a home away from home. We stayed during December and the house was decorated with numerous Christmas trees and decorations. I wish I has time to visit the Spa that was connected but the others that did go said very good things. I will return only next time I will make sure its is during wine season! Lisa was very accommodating and helpful with everything. She was even flexible with our changing schedules. I would rate this 10 Stars if that was an option.
We rented the Sideways House for a much need girls get away in October. Granted, we all live about 20 minutes away, we still felt like we had truly "gotten away". The house was really clean, comfortable and well equipped for the 8 of us. The beds were comfy and the robes appreciated. Being close to Perfect Balance Day Spa had mostly pros, but one small con (I'll get to that later). Each of us took advantage of at least one spa treatment and enjoyed the hot tub, sauna, etc. We all highly recommend the spa: great treatments and staff.
The Sideways House owner was super helpful and accommodating; she made it really easy and was very welcoming. She left spa gift cards for each of us; very generous. There was a lovely bottle of wine, coffee cake, and fresh flowers on the table when we arrived; a really nice touch.
The house looks like it was redone recently and it looks great: beautiful kitchen, living room with enough comfy sitting areas for all of us, nice dining room, etc. The 4 bedrooms are all upstairs, nicely laid out with nice linens, pillows and really comfortable beds. All nicely decorated. Nicely located too. Some of us walked to town for wine tasting a couple of times.
The house is a 5 without a doubt. A couple of things to note: The description says that the house "shares an entrance" with the spa, which it does, but there were people coming and going from the spa behind the house and the pathway next to the house while the spa was open and an hour or so afterwards. This really isn't a con, necessarily, but just be aware that people will be in the backyard somewhat regularly during business hours. We wouldn't hesitate to rent the house again, and again, and again.
The Sideways House was the perfect place for our daughter's wedding weekend. Our family and bridesmaids stayed there and we loved it. Every room is meticulously decorated and gorgeous. The girls loved the robes in each room. We were welcomed with a delicious pumpkin cake, wine and a bottle of champagne for the bride and groom. The yard created a beautiful place for the rehearsal dinner and the bridal party made good use of the bocce court!
Lisa was so accommodating, responding quickly to all our questions. We absolutely could not have asked for a better place.
