The Gatehouse at Barwidgee Farm is the perfect place to base yourselves.

The Gatehouse is centrally located in the spectacular Happy Valley, in the heart of the region. Set amongst a beautiful garden and olive grove, it's the ideal place to base yourselves whilst you explore all the delights the Alpine region has to offer.

Our stylish retreat boasts stunning views, open plan living and luxurious comfort. With vaulted ceilings throughout and timber and corrugated iron a feature. Large windows capture the views and wide verandahs are ideal for outdoor entertaining.

The Gatehouse offers the ultimate in modern and comfortable holiday accommodation for couples and families. We can accommodate up to six people, with 2 bedrooms and two bathrooms. Both bedrooms have queen sized beds, with the second bedroom also having a set of bunks. The second bedroom is quite small.

Enjoy exploring the area, with Bright, Myrtleford, Beechworth and Milawa all within half an hours' drive. Or pack a picnic and head off for the day to one of our famous destinations, such as; Mt Buffalo, Falls Creek, Mt Hotham, Lake Buffalo or Wandilagong.

To welcome you we hope you enjoy our complimentary local wine and Breakfast Hamper for your first breakfast - bacon, free range eggs, local bread, jams, honey, tea, coffee and olive oil(our own).

About us

The Gatehouse is located on our farm, where we grow olives, as well as breeding Angus cattle and Australian stock horses. Staying with us you'll be totally private amidst your own garden, but also be able to enjoy the space and relaxation that the farm offers.

We have developed our farm over twenty years. When we arrived our property was largely undeveloped with only a couple of dams and a few trees. We have worked hard to make the farm what it is today. The Gatehouse has been converted from our licensed cafe and gift shop, which we operated successfully for seven years. The transformation into stylish self contained accommodation has been very successful and we look forward to your stay with us.

Delightful stay in nature

We had a lovely family getaway. The house is so tastefully decorated and well appointed with everything we needed. Comfy beds, hot showers and plenty of spots to sit and enjoy the beautiful surrounds in amongst farmland.

Wonderful long weekend

We loved staying at the cottage over the Easter weekend. The farm is stunningly beautiful and the cottage perfectly set up. Jo and John are fabulous hosts and we very much hope to go back when we can.

Fantastic stay at the Gatehouse

The gatehouse is a great palace to stay made all the better by the wonderful attention to detail and welcoming provisions and care. The fire was lit and the house the was warm, there was a great range of provisions for our stay and a very warm personal welcome from Joanna.

Perfect peaceful serenity

A beautiful cottage - quiet, secluded but close to town. It was the perfect spot to stay and explore the beautiful Happy Valley region and Alpine ranges. Jo was amazing - friendly but we had absolute privacy. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and will be back again some day.

Wonderful location

The Gatehouse was a amazing location, close to everything the region has to offer. The accomodation was clean and well presented and the supplies for the first mornings breakfast made for a very tasty start to the day. Would highly reccomend.

Absolutely beautiful!

Our family loved our 4 night stay at the cottage! Beautiful location with amazing views! The cottage is tastefully styled and very clean. They provided us with fresh bacon and eggs which was delish! Would defiantly stay again!

Tranquillity in Paradise

The cottage was situated far from the “ maddening crowd” the weather was sunny & relaxing and Joanne was the perfect hostess . The house was very comfortable and beautifully decorated. The breakfast was ample and very Enjoyable. Will look forward to visit the farmhouse again .

Rosewhite Gatehouse Stay

We all loved the house and especially the location. A lovely house surrounded by beautiful gardens and the mountains. A very lovely place to relax and take in the surroundings. We thoroughly recommend this house to stay at if you are heading up to this part of Victoria.

The Gateway provided us with a private and tranquil break. The house was very comfortable and clean, and Jo very hospitable and helpful. A great place to explore the region from. We’ll be returning.

Beautiful stay at Rosewhite!

We had only been at The Gatehouse for a few hours and decided we needed to stay another night ! The property was fantastic - walking in was so welcoming - everything for an easy stay with lots of lovely touches like a bottle of wine and breakfast for our first morning. The Coonara was easy and so warming - so would highly recommend to anyone wanting an absolutely lovely experience. Our hosts, John and Jo were great - thank you !!

We loved the cottage. Very cosy, great views and very comfortable. Beautiful food and wine in the fridge - everything we needed was there. No WiFi caused some concern early but turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

Perfect location.

The Gatehouse was perfect in size, location and amenities. We were running later than we wished on the first night, the wood fire had been lit, lamps were on, and it was such a relief to not be walking into a cold dark home! 30 minutes from Bright, Beechworth and 10 minutes from Myrtleford but, it was perfectly located with mountain views and cows. Highly recommend.

Great farm tsay.

Nice property, well maintained. Great views from the house all around. So peaceful and relaxing. The early mornings and sun sets are something out of this world. The only regret is that we haven't discovered this place earlier. We'll be back for a longer stay sometime soon.

A relaxing week

A quiet well appointed and equipped farm cottage with gorgeous rural views. We especially enjoyed our late afternoons relaxing on the porch looking out over the valley to the distant hills as the sun dipped and the shadows lengthened. Beautiful.

Restful Weekend Away

It’s a charming property, decorated in a relaxing and comfortable country style. Lovely linen, and comfortable beds. Everything you need is provided and the breakfast provisions were delicious and plentiful. Body wash provided in the showers (there are two) and good water pressure for a country property. The views are stunning, with the morning sun streaming into the large living area. The bbq was the perfect size for two couples. I highly recommend booking the cottage.
