The Swiss Garden House

The Swiss Garden House features an amazing landscaped yard with a big pond, a very long rambling creek and the wild woods. The house is artistically eclectic and comfortable with central heat and air, good sleeping beds, cable TV and extended WiFi. It is easily accessible and only five minutes from restaurants and 15 minutes from a 24 hr. Walmart. One mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Three private decks. No neighbors. Huge Sunroom. Treehouse. Small gated lot for your pet. Extremely easy access. Good for motorcycles, trailers,an RV ect... TV's in every bedroom.

It was a family migration that brought us to Little Switzerland, NC from Orange, California in 1998. My parents, Jim & Gloria Edwards, bought the house for the yard and quickly started changing the house. Mom was an avid gardener and knitter, and my dad (Papi) lived many of his young years in Mexico, and then taught Spanish for 40 years. The house and yard are a reflection of their life passions, love and creativity.

If you choose to stay at the Swiss Garden House you will enjoy a tremendous yard with all sorts of trees, shrubs, grapevines and flowers. Mom never stopped planting. A big pond is the view from the tree house that Papi and my kids built; and the creek runs from the front of the property and flows amidst the woods and lawn and on around the back of the house.

The large sunroom looks out into the woods with an adjoining deck where you will want to enjoy the sounds of the rushing creek for your morning coffee or an evening barbeque. Ramos, a Mexican Artisan, made all the wrought iron chairs, tables and chandelier. When my parents were 68 and 70 years old they laid the ceramic floor tiles and the colorful tiles brought from Mexico on the stairs and around all the rooms instead of baseboards.

The King Room has seven windows and a back deck with a stairway down to the creek where you can build a fire and wade in the creek, yet still have WIFI access creek side. The King Room was previously Mom’s craft room that housed seven knitting machines, three sewing machines and lots of yarn and fabric.

You will be comfortable in the house with new appliances, primo beds with 620 TC Egyptian cotton sheets and extra plush towels. There are many tables and chairs for cozy conversations, good eating and game nights. There is a TV in all the bedrooms and one in the living room, so there will be no squabbling over the remote. There is parking space for three cars in front of the house and an extra parking lot across the bridge for a larger vehicle or for visitors.

Mom went to heaven in May 2012 and Papi lived with us until he went on to heaven too in December 2015. My husband, Riis, and I have been working on the yard and house with helpers here and there for the past four years. My daughter recently got married in the church on the corner and we had the reception in the yard. One of the comments was “you have created a piece of paradise”.

Thank you for considering our Swiss Garden House, and we hope to see you soon.

A perfect mountain house for our family gathering.

  • 5 of 5

The house is beautiful, with warm wood furniture and comfortable visiting and sleeping accommodations, all very clean. The decorative tiles add beauty and whimsy. Love the sunporch with views of woods and creek, a lovely sunrise spot! Great fun walking along the creek and in the meadows. The kitchen is well appointed, and with some essentials provided. Large, comfortable dining table. Washer and dryer were appreciated. Oh, and the hot tub was wonderful, just the ticket after a hike, or for stargazing. Melissa was helpful with questions and with modifying our reservation. We want to come back in other seasons, too. Thank you, Melissa!

Perfect in every way

  • 5 of 5

The photos do not do this home justice. To say that it is the perfect house when staying in the mountains is an understatement. We loved everything about this home. From the treehouse, the pond, the creek, the hot tub, to everything on the inside. The house had everything you would need to stay for a simple vacation and yet at the same time it had all of the items needed if you were hosting a party. The view was gorgeous, then house was very clean, the beds were comfortable, and the ambiance was serene and relaxing. We could not have asked for more! Will definitely stay here again!

Secluded and Lovely Forest Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

The Swiss Garden House is truly a lovely and very special retreat. Encompassing several levels overlooking a serene creek in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, it somehow manages to be both large and quite intimate at the same time. The house itself is spotless and in pristine condition, with woodsy furnishings and beautiful Spanish tiles. There are bedrooms and bathrooms on every level -- you truly can accommodate a smallish family reunion there. The property is large and lush, with a meadow and pond in addition to the creek and abundant with flowers and interesting plant life. It was fun to just explore the property and stroll around.

We also fell in love with the area, especially the Village of Little Switzerland and enjoyed eating and shopping there. Plus, you're only an hour from Asheville if you need some "city" excitement and Spruce Pine has grocery shopping and places to stock up on supplies. And, importantly, the owners are very sweet and accommodating. My family had a lovely rejuvenating stay there and are planning to go back soon.
