Your recently remodeled and updated Kona Beach House sits on the point of a bay with lush tropical landscaping, flowers and palm-trees surrounding a swimming pool and jacuzzi/spa. The serenity is not marred by street-noise or house-parties. Situated at Kona Onenalo: a gated 12-home complex four miles south of Kailua-Kona town and one mile north of Keauhou (a golfers' haven).

Your two-story Kona Beach House is about 15-yards (meters) from the surf; and the crashing waves on the lava and beach are best experienced from our two large lanais. You can watch the surfers, the sunsets, or just look at the turquoise blue Pacific Ocean where spinning dolphins and whales swim. With a nearly constant temperature in the 80s, and a cool ocean breeze, your oceanfront Kona Beach House is a tropical dream.

It is ideal for multi-generation family vacations.

The oceanfront, two-story, 2000 square-foot house has three bedrooms, three bathrooms and can comfortably accommodate up to 6 people. The main level includes a bedroom/study with two twin beds, full bathroom, kitchen, dining area, and spacious living room that opens to the main lanai with its dramatic Pacific Ocean view. We spend most of our time at home on this gorgeous lanai!

The top level has two lovely bedroom suites. The large master bedroom has a king bed and its own private lanai overlooking the ocean, with a lotus pond – an incredible view and perfect for an early morning stretch or yoga. The second bedroom has two extra-long twin-beds (that can be made into a second king-bed, if desired). Each bedroom has its own private bathroom.

As this is a tropical home with open-air louvered windows and strategically placed ceiling fans, there is no need for air conditioning - the nearly constant ocean trade winds fan a breeze from the ocean during the day and from the mountains at night. There is however an air conditioner in the upstairs guest bedroom for your added comfort.

The architect designed Kona Onenalo with a focus on maximum privacy. With this in mind there are minimal window coverings to take full advantage of both air flow and views.

Your gated Kona Beach House is RIGHT ON THE OCEAN! Just steps away is a “private” ocean swimming and snorkeling cove with live coral, undersea caves, and magnificent fish & turtles. There is a locked gate that takes you to this cove.

(Note: we recommend only experienced ocean swimmers enter this cove as sometimes the surf and surge can be harmful to beginners.)

Additionally, there are two great beaches on Ali'i Drive. The first, Magic Sands/White Sands Beach, is a five minute stroll from the house, and is good for swimming and boogie boarding or board & body surfing. The second, Kahalu'u Beach, a ten minute walk, usually calm & safe, is great for snorkeling (and shore-entry scuba), and has green sea turtles that can be found feeding and sunning themselves.

About Dorene Petersen

YourKonaBeachHouse is our second home! We offer it as a vacation rental when we're not using it and you will love the location, tropical-surroundings, house, and decor as your second home -- in Hawaii. When not in Kona, we live in Portland, OR.

Why Dorene Petersen chose Kailua-Kona

Our house is one of 12 free-standing, 2000 sq-ft houses on a point of land protruding into the Pacific Ocean. It is truly unique -- it could not be built today because the house is too close to the ocean by present codes. The 12-houses are in a gated community with good parking, and our house is far from Ali'i Drive so that there is no street-noise. Since all of the owners are also using the houses as second homes, and only a few provide them as vacation rentals as we do, the community typically has only 2-4 of the homes occupied at any one time -- so tranquility is assured.

What makes this house unique

While enjoying the beauty of the surroundings, my guests and I have difficult choices to make each day: Putting on snorkel-gear and walking through our private gate into the water of our '4-mile cove', full of coral, fish, and turtles -- so appealing that the dive and snorkel boats often bring their customers. Or, strolling 100-yards to the popular White Sands (or Magic Sands) beach for swimming, boogie boarding, surfing, or just sunning. Often we do both of these, and finish the day in our pool and jacuzzi -- and enjoy drinks and a barbeque dinner on our lanai at sunset.

Beautiful Vacation Home!

Our family stayed here in August and we had a wonderful time! The home was very comfortable for three couples and was well supplied with anything we needed. We loved sitting on the deck in the morning drinking our coffee and ending the day on the deck watching the sunset. The view is just amazing and the gardens surrounding all the homes in this development are well kept and lovely. We enjoyed the pool almost every day. We ate some meals in, and enjoyed eating out at some of the local restaurants, which were within a 15 minute drive from the place. Magic Sands beach is just a five minute walk and a really nice beach for snorkeling. We went to Volcanoes National Park one day, went to the Place of Refuge another, and went Flumin' in Hawi another day. All great adventures. We loved Kona Brewing, Da Poke Shack, Super J's for lunch, Kayas, Evolution and 808 Grindz for breakfast. We found a convenient grocery store just five minutes south called KTA.

We have so many wonderful memories of being with our family in this beautiful home and we feel fortunate to have found this Hawaii treasure!

Beautiful setting and great location.

We had a wonderful stay at Dorene’s condo. Beautiful views from every room and the sound of the waves crashing over the lava rocks was fantastic! We slept so well! Dorene also had little things to make our trip helpful. Lots of extras in the kitchen, beach chairs, and snorkeling equipment. We had a great time and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this lovely condo.

Perfect in every way

We have used Home away and VRBO for most of our recent vacations and this experience was a highlight. You are literally right on the ocean. Tons of privacy but communal pool brings other neighbors and renters together. The house was lovely —.perfect in its layout and comfort. Bright and open, you really do feel spoiled in this setting. The owner and her local staff were extremely gracious, attentive and efficient. Located in the perfect part of Kona just minutes from the shops — convenient but secluded. It was heaven. Highly recommend. Worth every penny and then some!

Ironman week stay

This property was fantastic... Dorene (the owner) was very prompt with all communications and we had nothing to worry about the entire time... a short walk to magic sands beach, great snorkeling, or just stay at the house and enjoy the amazing view from the deck and the pool... even the view from the kitchen is amazing!! Enjoy the sounds of the waves as u sleep... it really is a fantastic spot!

I was so impressed by the communication between the owner and myself, the house, the location, the property...everything. The beds were all comfortable, the house was beyond gorgeous, the property was well taken care of and the whole experience felt truly like paradise! This was our first time to the big island and we enjoyed every second of the journey!

Very roomy for 6 guests

We had a great time. The house was well stocked with necessities in the kitchen (including plastic wrap and aluminum foil). The bathrooms were also stocked well (I did not expect shampoo and plenty of TP). It was a treat to have these supplies available. The home is spacious so we had plenty of room to do our own thing (family of 4: kids ages 8 and 14, and 2 grandparents). The grounds are beautiful. We enjoyed exploring the tide pools and saw eels and turtles and plenty of other creatures. We also snorkeled in the cove just to the North of the property and found many many fish. The water entrance was a bit tricky and watch out for urchins! It was very hot during our visit (mid-high eighties), but the breeze was adequate for sleeping. There was also no traffic noise at all in this unit - only the crashing waves and the birds! I believe my parents used the AC in the back bedroom a bit and had to turn it down because it got too cold. We used the home as a base for many activities around the entire island. The house is a bit away from the main town area, but not too far. Just far enough to be a little quieter with less traffic, but easy to get to the shops and restaurants. We walked to Disappearing Sands Beach and it was a treat to have that so nearby (although it was very crowded spot). We would love the opportunity to return to this rental! Communications with the owner were easy and there was a thorough binder in the unit with all of the pertinent information about the rental. Thanks!
