About Laurie and David Shepard
Recently retired and relocated to the area, we are pleased to share with you our getaway on the gulf.
Laurie and David Shepard purchased this Condo in 2015
Why Laurie and David Shepard chose Gulf Shores
Gulf Shores has been a favorite vacation destination of ours for years and we were excited to find this opportunity in 2015. We fell in love with Sandy Paws the moment we stepped out onto the huge balcony overlooking Little Lagoon. The sunset view was stunning and we awoke the next morning to an equally breathtaking sunrise. The peaceful quiet was in such amazing contrast to the hustle and bustle of the those beach-side condos (two blocks away) that we knew Sandy Paws was the place for us. Residents and guests have free, unlimited access to the indoor and outdoor pools, private beach and boat launch, private pier with fish cleaning station, and shaded picnic area with tables and grills. Covered ares for bicycles and kayaks are also available at no charge.
What makes this Condo unique
Compass Point has a large paved parking lot with easy maneuverability for full-sized vehicles and watercraft trailers. Sandy Paws is accessed by either of two elevators. The kitchen has all new appliances and is fully equipped with pots, pans, cooking utensils, plates, glasses, and tableware for you to prepare your favorite dishes. Start your mornings on the balcony with coffee from the Keurig or drip coffee makers. The full-sized refrigerator is equipped with an ice maker for those evening beverages. Step out onto the 208 square foot balcony and relax on the patio furniture while enjoying the view of Little Lagoon, the boardwalk, the private beach, and the outdoor pool. The sunrises and sunsets are spectacular. The guest bathroom has been fully renovated with a tiled tub/shower, toilet, and vanity. Loved Sandy Paws!
The view is amazing. We really enjoyed our visit. Can't wait to come back again.
CONDO WAS PERFECT
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sandy Paws. The view from the deck was great with sunset views in one direction and sunrise views in the other. The walk down to the beach was easy and took 10 minutes at the most. The condo was spotless and comfortable. We had everything we needed in the kitchen. We did not bring our dog this time but will definitely bring her next time.
Perfect little get away
Sandy Paws was amazing! Super clean and homey! The owners are amazing and very quick at responding to emails. I would definitely recommend this to anyone! I look forward to staying with them again in the near future!
Thanks for the kind words while highlighting something many travelers certainly appreciate - quick response to inquiries as well as any questions about a prospective property. Because travelers want to get their lodging arrangements out of the way to get back to planning the rest of their great vacations, we try very hard to be immediately responsive to this important detail. So whether staying at Sandy Paws for a single night to enjoy a concert at The Wharf, enjoying a week in the sand during the summer, or spending the winter as a snowbird, we'll look forward to seeing you next time!
My family and I absolutely enjoyed our stay at Sandy Paws. Loved the wonderful views, lovely beach area, and pool for kids. Plus we got to spend it with our cavalier Ruby! Thank you!
Thanks for being wonderful guests and highlighting what we love so much about Sandy Paws - relaxing views, indoor and outdoor pools, private beach on Little Lagoon, and doggie friendly! See us again, soon.
The condo was great. It was quiet and relaxing. We enjoyed the balcony and watching the sunset. Our month there went so fast. Wish we could have stayed longer. Laurie and David and the management were very accommodating. We had everything we needed. We loved the view of the lagoon.
Thanks for being great guests and we are so happy you enjoyed your snowbird vacation with us. Those views of Little Lagoon from the balcony are so amazing all year long whether enjoying the sunrise with morning coffee or sunset at the end of a full day. And since Sandy Paws is pet friendly, we hope your doggie had fun watching the wildlife from the balcony. See you next time!
Loved the location, it was so peaceful .Plenty of room, well appointed, they thought of everything!
The owner is in the middle of remodeling, am sure it will be great!
Thanks for the kind words and spending your Snowbird vacation with us! We do our best to anticipate and accommodate our guests and are happy to have exceeded your expectations. Even though Sandy Paws is lovely and spacious now, we're excited to be renovating the kitchen soon to provide an even greater experience for our guests. Come see us again!
Where We Are: Sandy Paws is located in the "West Beach" area of Gulf Shores, Alabama, and less tourist-driven than the City of Gulf Shores proper, which is the site of amusement parks, nightlife and museums. Luxury homes line both sides of two-lane West Beach Boulevard, but almost all of the white sugar sand beach is open to the public. May and October are the best times to visit, if you want to avoid the crowds but still take advantage of warm weather. West Beach is an area of sandy beaches and private homes to the west of Gulf Shores. Located on the Fort Morgan peninsula stretching into Mobile Bay, the beach is separated from the bay by a lake called Little Lagoon. Sandy Paws is on Little Lagoon and has a panoramic view of this peaceful body. The closest access to the beach is at West 13th Street and is a safe, five minute stroll from Sandy Paws along boardwalks and sidewalks. East/west highways on the north and south shores of the lake link Gulf Shores to the east with Fort Morgan and the Fort Morgan-Dauphin Island Ferry to the west. The beach is lined with restaurants, private homes, condominiums and high-rise hotels. Attractions: Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge -- a 7,000-acre habitat for migrating birds, sea turtles and the Alabama beach mouse established in 1980 -- provides protection for Fort Morgan peninsula’s dune ecosystem. Trails and beaches at the refuge are open year round. The area’s namesake, Fort Morgan, was the site of the Battle of Mobile Bay during the Civil War. The fort, built in 1818, and a museum are open all year. The 6,150-acre Gulf State Park, with two miles of sandy beaches, has camping, cabins and nature trails. A lake in the park is open for swimming and a dog park affords furry friends a dip in the water as well. The Gulf Coast Exploreum, a science museum for kids, has 50 hands-on exhibits, an IMAX dome and a virtual reality theater. Waterville USA, a small water and amusement park, is usually uncrowded; Adventure Island, a pirate-themed amusement park, features miniature golf, lazer tag, bumper boats and go-carts. Climate: West Beach has mild winters and hot summers. The Gulf of Mexico stores heat year round, keeping temperatures warm and humidity high. Summer highs are usually in the 90s Fahrenheit; winter lows rarely drop below 40 degrees F. Because of its short coastline, hurricanes rarely make landfall in Alabama, but storms do cause flooding and tornadoes. Getting Here: Most visitors to Gulf Shores will drive and Alabama Highway 59 (Gulf Shores Parkway) is the traditional route from Interstate 10. An alternative is the recently completed Baldwin Beach Express from Exit 49 on I-10 which has a lot fewer traffic lights than Hwy 59 but has a toll bridge upon entering Orange Beach. The toll is approximately $3.50 per vehicle and gets travelers to beaches much faster but guests at Sandy Paws will still have about a six mile drive on Beach Boulevard (with lots of traffic lights) before arrival. You'll see lots of things to do along the way but its a coin toss as to which route is faster - especially during the summer season. The closest major airport, Pensacola International, is about 40 miles to the east. Mobile Regional Airport is about 60 miles to the northwest. Jack Edwards National Airport in Gulf Shores has a 5,399-foot runway and the general aviation airport on nearby Dauphin Island is accessible via the Dauphin Island-Fort Morgan ferry. Greyhound serves Mobile, and Amtrak maintains a station 100 miles to the west in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
