About Theresa Harper
My husband and I enjoy outdoor sports, such as cycling, running, stand-up paddle boarding, and can give you great tips on where to hike or rent a bike to best enjoy our little paradise.
Theresa Harper purchased this Cottage in 2010
Why Theresa Harper chose Estate Cane Garden
We are fortunate to live on such a beautiful slice of paradise. We have lived on Estate Cane Garden for 23 years and can't think of a more special piece of property on St. Croix. Our cottage is situated on a private estate where tranquility is a way of life. (We live next door to Seaside Serenity with our friendly dog, Lucy) The green pasture to our north, although occasionally cut, helps maintain the quiet ambiance of the estate. The blue Caribbean Sea, just 30 steps from the backdoor, is a playground for pelicans, sea turtles, terns, oyster catchers and many colorful fish.
What makes this Cottage unique
We have renovated Seaside Serenity with a modern kitchen and bathrooms and have added an outdoor shower, which has the best view! Enjoy sitting at the outdoor table with your coffee in the morning while the pelicans dive for their breakfast. An outdoor swing under the great Maho tree is a wonderful place to enjoy the serenity of the sea.

Wonderful beachside retreat!
We loved staying at this house! We chose to stay here based off of prior reviews and the pictures provided. They are all true! The house is nice and spacious, cultured but not cluttered. The totally private beach is ideal, just steps away from the house!
A few of my favorite things:
-sitting on the beach in the lounge chairs watching the waves roll in
-enjoying the ocean view while using the outdoor shower
-lounging on the cliffside seating, watching the waves-especially at night;it was mesmerizing
-hearing the waves when falling asleep
-using the snorkeling gear to explore any of St. Croix's beaches.
A few of my husband's favorite things:
-the kitchen is well stocked for cooking your own meals
-the bed was comfortable
-it's a great location on the island
Theresa is wonderful! She is super welcoming, quick to respond anytime we had a question.
If you are concerned about post hurricane: we could not see any hurricane trouble/problems on this property. All power is on, and we had cell phone service anywhere we tried using it on the whole island.
We have been coming to St. Croix for quite some time now. In all the places we have stayed, this one without a doubt has been the best one. It's not just the private beach, the lovely view, the wonderful breeze, the swimming sea turtles, the craftsmanship and quality of the home, its the warm and welcoming spirit of Theresa. She was a pleasure to meet. It's a very nice and private location, and also close to town. We would not hesitate to stay here again!
Theresa, thanks again for letting us stay at your lovely place and your hospitality!!!
It's always a pleasure to see guests enjoying our little slice of paradise as much as we do! Hope to see you again!
This was the most beautiful house and the beach is just a few steps away! My family and I cannot say enough good things about the property and owner! She had all of the necessities at the house and even many extras that you may have forgotten that you needed! We had family stay in other places and everyone wanted to be at our place :) We had the most unbelievable stay and hope to go back soon!!
Stayed Dec. 2nd thru Dec. 9th. Post Irma and Maria.
Theresa you have a very lovely place for visitors to stay. You did a great job. There is everything you need there to make your stay great. We cooked breakfast and dinner there every night and didn't find anything you didn't have covered. Even though they still do not have electricity there is a generator that makes your stay enjoyable. Theresa will start it if you want, but we asked to do it ourselves which was no problem. The view is great and maybe you'll even see a turtle. The only thing that would have made it better would have been if we could have gotten to the beach. We'll blame that on Irma and or Maria. I'm sure you'll get the steps rebuilt when time allows. We traveled around every day and think we pretty much drove every road there. The roads had electric wires everywhere but that will get cleaned up soon. The people on St. Croix are working hard to make your stay great so don't cancel now they need our help as tourist to finish the job.
Supermarkets and gas stations are open and there are plenty of places to eat out. I also seen where people where asking about cell service and want to let them know that Verizon does work almost everywhere on the island.
Ralph and Cindy
Cindy and Ralph were real troopers and definitely fit in well with real island life. I really enjoyed sharing a rum punch with them in the evening as I heard about their many excursions and adventures. So happy to have hosted such a nice couple!
A great place to get away that comes with a private beach!
I stayed at the lovely cottage which is right next to a large estate. For this reason it is very private and quiet. You also have access to a long stretch of private beach. There is a bird rehabilitation sanctuary right next door. The hostess and her dog Lucy are very friendly. I was their immediately after Maria hit the island so there was no power from the utility. They had a generator which was turned on for an hour or two in the morning as well as in the evening. This allowed for showers and lights. The host also provided flashlights to read by in the evening and a battery operated fan for staying cool overnight. Now that summer is past I am sure that the evenings will be even cooler and a fan will not be needed.
The cottage itself is decorated beautifully and there is a screened in porch overlooking the ocean. I walked along the beach and saw dozens of conch shells and tracks from sea turtles who had laid eggs overnight.
I have to thank Theresa for making my stay so nice considering the circumstances. I am sure that once power is restored it will even be nicer.
This is such a great house and property in a private setting.
The whole experience was fantastic. From the house, the fantastic private beach, watching the local wildlife right out your door practically, to the extremely helpful owner, it was just the most relaxing and fun vacation. I would hope that others take the chance to experience real island life.
Seaside Serenity is a great place to stay if you're signed up for this year's Ironman 70.3 St. Croix! As you enter the lower gates of Cane Garden you are welcomed by ruins on the left and right. Estate Cane Garden is a private, well-preserved sugar plantation with several structures within view. It consists of 265 acres, on which several neighbors call their home. Please be mindful of this and drive on the dirt lane like you're on vacation in paradise with no rush at all.
If you are inclined to sleep with the a/c on, please remember to tightly close the louvers and to turn off the a/c once you leave for the day. An additional fee of $30/day will be charged if you wish to run the units all day. Rates are based on 2 guests; add $50.00 per night, per additional guest
