About this property
Goochland Getaway At Clover Hill Farm
The main house at Clover Hill is divided into two rentals . The Main house "The James " and the "The Rosalie" separate In Law apartment - both rentals are combined in this listing making it sleep up to 10 guests comfortably. The farm was acquired by my great Uncle James & Aunt Rosalie downsizing in 1950. I continue the family tradition of running the farm in hopes to pass on its 115 acres of rolling hay fields and horse pastures onto another generation. In 2015 I renovated both houses with guest rental and family gatherings in mind. The James the 4 bedroom, 2 bath main portion can sleep 8, Its wide open living dining area, sun porch and outside patios makes it suitable for a couples retreat or family get together. The Rosalie, one bedroom one bath self sufficient apartment on two levels giving you privacy and freedom from the rest of the house. The large west facing deck is a favorite spot for sunset hour. Two separate drives retain the privacy and detachment of both spaces. The nightly rate for this listing is priced for 8 guests (additional guests are $20 per night / per guest after 8.) Well behaved pets are allowed but must be mentioned at booking. Its suggested that pets not familiar with being left alone be crated and not left alone longer than 3 hours. Pets must be in a flea preventative program.

About the host
Hosted by Ellen Pons
I grew up in Richmond with backyard horses that summered in Goochland on my great uncle's Clover Hill Farm. I purchased the property from my siblings in 2006. As the 3rd generation steward of this special property I am working to pass it on to my children. I live and work with my husband and extended family in Maryland on our commercial thoroughbred breeding farm. I also am a freelance photographer. I travel to the farm frequently to lend a hand w/ upkeep and relax in a setting that is peaceful and rejuvenating. I am happy to share this special place with like minded travelers that appreciate the beauty of the country.
Why they chose this property
The property is like family to me. Having grown up visiting my great uncle Jim Ball as a child and living here during my college years I felt committed to keeping it in the family. My uncle donated 100 acres of the property to the University of Richmond as a perpetual open space for biological study . This first conservation easement of Virginia was recognized with a historical marker in August of 2019 on its 50th anniversary. Every guest adds to the history and helps with the preservation of this pastoral retreat that is so special to me.
