Deceitful Owner
Reserved and pd in full 12/19/21. Owner said VRBO made error with unit we reserved, it was not available, he would upgrade us into unit Casita Oceana. We arrived on 1/11/22, went to Casita Oceana and saw it was occupied. Lady said she is owners sister and had been staying in Casita Oceana for two weeks, she went to locate Owner. Owner came and lied straight to our faces, told us a Mexican family had just left Casita Oceana a couple days ago, they had plugged up the toilet and his sister and her husband were using their bathroom in their home next door. He didn't know she had already told us they had been staying there for two weeks. He told us he would put us in another Casita, which was not beachfront and had no ocean view. I told him this was not right and we were not happy, he became very aggressive and told us we could JUST LEAVE!!
The ad for this property is VERY misleading.. It states that all units are oceanfront and have ocean views, in reality, only the owners unit and Casita Oceana are ocean front with ocean views. They are both two stories tall and block views from the other units which are BEHIND them. Owner told us our little tiny studio unit (where the toilet was just a few feet from the bed!!) has a view if we walk past another units front porch, climb some steep stairs and sit on a patio which seemed to belong to another unit because a lady was sleeping on a couch which was looking out onto this patio! He also states there is parking, but only under coconut trees on a dark street, also there was no microwave as stated in the ad.
We wasted the entirety of the next day looking for more comfortable accommodations, we always stay at properties which provide a beautiful ocean view and this property did not. The owner, of course, agreed to refund our full payment since he had double booked both of the units we thought we had reserved. BUT, we were unable to leave a bad review because of VRBOs policies which state you can only leave a review if you stayed in the property, we did stay for one night but because the Owner canceled, we couldn't leave review. We do not agree with VRBOs policies, it is the the second time we have been jilted by a VRBO Owner and now must wonder how many other owners are not being called out for their offenses and more unsuspecting guests are being continually dooped by them. We will no longer be using VRBO, much too much stress when we're supposed to be getting away from it all...
