About Harold & Marla Johnson
We are a retired couple who moved to Franklin in 2005. Harold graduated from Sarasota High School and ran a construction business specializing in concrete work for 35 years; working exclusively on Boca Grande. He enjoys woodworking, recreating the beauty of an old building and has volunteered over the last 12 years just helping ministries and people in need. Marla is a South Carolina girl and enjoys quilting and managing this property. Raised in a minister's home, she loves working with the church and being a part of the "family". They have travelled the world on many missionary endeavors. With 6 children, 12 grandchildren and 6 great grands, they enjoy the life that God has provided.

Why Harold & Marla Johnson chose Franklin
We bought this property with 25 acres in 2005. This building was an old canning shed on the lower level and storage on the upper level. Marla's mother suggested that Harold make her a summer house out of this old building. Thus, Granny's Mountain Retreat was birthed. Read the rest of the story when you stay with us.
What makes this cabin unique
Cowee Valley is quiet and peaceful. It's a place where you can sit on your porch and watch the deer and turkey feed and hear the geese as they fly into the pond closeby. There are times that you can actually hear the creek rushing through the valley. It's an escape from the busyness of life and enjoy, relax and rest.
