So much to do, you don't need to leave the property!
Feel the stresses of your daily life melt away as you roll down the quarter mile driveway running past rich eastern shore farmland and a 100 year old sycamore tree. When you spot the big red barn and swaying willows, you know you've arrived. Come unwind in style in a beautifully restored stone home with all of the modern amenities on 4 acres. When you step through the front door, you will be greeted by a panoramic view of Fishing Creek through a full expanse of floor to ceiling windows.Guests will especially enjoy the evening breeze out on the screened in porch with vaulted wooden ceilings and ceiling fan. The great room encompasses a beautiful modern kitchen, custom cherry dining island, large family style dinner table and enough comfy couch seating for your whole group.
There are 2 bedrooms and one large bathroom on the ground level. The Chesapeake Room has a queen bed and large walk-in closet. The Choptank Room features two full-sized beds and a day-bed with trundle where you may want to house all of the kids so they can watch their own shows, movies, or play video games within earshot of the Great Room.
Upstairs you'll find wonderful cherry wood floors as you make your way to two large complete suites with full baths, walk-in closets, and doors that close to the hallway. The Captain's Quarters has a King-sized bed. The Pineapple Room, has a Queen size bed with a full-sized futon. Between the suites is a full laundry room.
For those seeking outdoor adventure, there is plenty to do near or on the water. Sunbathe, fish or crab off of the large dock. Launch one of our kayaks, paddle boards, paddle boat, or your own water craft from the gently sloped boat ramp. Area boat, jet ski, or bicycle rental is available from local vendors.
Beat the heat of summer in the swimming pool nestled next to the barn, featuring a wide tanning shelf with umbrella.
Play volleyball, badminton, croquet, cornhole, or your favorite outdoor activity on the large open field in the side yard. Rainy days are not a problem. Some guests will choose to play pool, ping pong, air hockey, or foosball in the expansive game room in the lower level of the barn, while others will choose a book, board game, puzzle or video from our collection for all ages.
Cook out on our gas grill, sip on a drink, then gather around the fire pit for an evening of smore's, star gazing, and story telling. Fire wood supplied.

About Rob and Gretchen Dejter
We consider ourselves blessed to be able to share this lovely spot with guests for the second year. We are excited to continue to provide a comfortable and tranquil spot for your time away. The property is called Sailor's Retreat, because we love sailing on the waterways of Maryland ourselves and look forward to our time in this beautiful part of the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
Rob and Gretchen Dejter purchased this House in 2016
Why Rob and Gretchen Dejter chose Dorchester County
Sailor's Retreat is down a winding country road, and tucked away on a serene creek, but five minutes away are all of the things you need: a Walmart, cinemas, and restaurants. Be sure to check out Emily's produce stand. The baked goods and local produce are outstanding! Make sure to stop at the Bay Country Bakery for doughnuts too!
What makes this House unique
The ground level of our home is a single step up from the outside. There are two bedrooms and a full bath on the ground level. The most breathtaking aspect of the home is the view when you walk in the front door..... a six window panoramic view of the water greets you, and the water is so close, it seems to be a step beyond the patio. Every bedroom has a view of the water! As good as the water view, is the picturesque big, red, barn that holds an abundance of fun in the expansive game room. It is stocked with indoor and outdoor games, a bar, and an additional refrigerator for beverages and snacks.

Wow! What a place!
Perfect for our group of 3 families. Spacious, comfortable, peaceful, and well stocked. Very organized and everything was labeled. Game room was a huge hit. It was really cold outside when we were here, but the house was warm and cozy and we had plenty to do One of the nicest houses we have rented. And as nightfall struck, the geeses' reign of terror was cast over the frozen lake, and kept me up all night.)
We were pleased to hear that your party, kids and adults, had a nice stay despite the cold and the noisy geese! It is unpredictable as to when they will gather in our end of the creek, but I've never known then to squawk through the night. Something must have been agitating them. Glad the house was a warm and cozy retreat!
Beautiful property with loads to do!
Amazing stay. Perfect for our group. High quality with loads to do.
What an amazing weekend at an amazing property. All the entertainment you can ever imagine. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool, the barn, the paddle boards, kayaks, board games. Amazing property. THank you!!!
Great vacation at a well attended property that met and exceeded all of our expectations.
Loved it! If your looking to relax, this is the place. The pool was awesome and house and yard were meticulously kept. The fire pit and dock were are great additions.
Wonderful 4 generation vacation!
I can't say enough good things about the house and its owners. They were friendly and quick to respond prior to our trip. The house was well equipped with everything we needed as well as notes regarding drinking water/additional fridges/etc to make sure we were enjoying all aspects of the home. The home itself is beautiful and has a living area equipped to have the whole family spend time together. The barn has an awesome bar area, fridge, lifejackets, crab traps, and games. The home is private, although 2 other homes are nearby, fields and fences make this a peaceful retreat. Ultimately this house provided us a private, comfortable retreat for our family, with plenty of information regarding surrounding areas to keep anyone entertained (that wasn't happy spending their day by the pool).
**Also if anyone has guests with mobility issues, 2 bedrooms are on the first floor and require no stairs throughout your stay.
Thank you so much for the speedy and positive review. We are really pleased that you had such a terrific week with your family. Thank you too for mentioning that the house is good for folks with mobility issues. It really is a big plus that there are no steps into the house from the front, and only one step down in the back. For us "older" people, it is nice to have everything we need on the first level!
Beautiful setting for a wonderful family vacation.
Our Family of 10, including 4 grandchildren had a wonderful week at this beautiful home. There was something for everyone. Kayaking, paddle boarding and the paddle boat kept us entertained. The pool was great for afternoon relaxing. The barn has enough games for a rainy day. The house was extremely clean and stocked with everything we needed . Books of every type. Lots of nice extras. No WiFi proved to be a non-issue. Hope to return next year.
We're so pleased that you had a nice week with your family at Sailor's Retreat. We would be happy to see you again next summer.
