Overview

About the property

Feel the stresses of your daily life melt away as you roll down the quarter mile driveway running past rich eastern shore farmland and a 100 year old sycamore tree. When you spot the big red barn and swaying willows, you know you've arrived. Come unwind in style in a beautifully restored stone home with all of the modern amenities on 4 acres. When you step through the front door, you will be greeted by a panoramic view of Fishing Creek through a full expanse of floor to ceiling windows. Fall and winter guests will want to snuggle up next to the cozy stone gas fireplace and heated ceramic tile floors and a warm cup of cocoa and watch blue heron glide over the water. Spring and Summer guests will especially enjoy the evening breeze out on the screened in porch with vaulted wooden ceilings and ceiling fan. The great room encompasses a beautiful modern kitchen, custom cherry dining island, large family style dinner table and enough comfy couch seating for your whole group.

There are 2 bedrooms and one large bathroom on the ground level. The Chesapeake Room has a queen bed and large walk-in closet and is great for the parents of kids in the Bunk Room right next door. Kids love our Bunk Room because of the two twin-over-double bunk beds! Parents love the Bunk Room because it gives the kids a private play area with a DVD player/TV and Wii so the adults enjoy the great room within ear shot.

Upstairs you'll find wonderful cherry wood floors as you make your way to the large Master Suites 1 and 2 complete with full baths and walk-in closets. These bedrooms are very private from each other. Master Suite 1 has a King and Master Suite 2 has a Queen size bed with a futon. There is a full laundry upstairs as well.

For those seeking outdoor adventure, there is plenty to do near or on the water. Sunbathe, fish or crab off of the large dock. Launch one of our kayaks, paddle boards, paddle boats, or your own water craft from the gently sloped boat ramp. Area boat, jet ski, or bicycle rental is available from local vendors.

Beat the heat of summer in our brand new 16x32 swimming pool ready for June 1, 2017 nestled next to the barn, but still with a lovely view of the creek.

Play volleyball, badminton, croquet, horseshoes, or your favorite outdoor activity on the large open field in the side yard. Rainy days are not a problem. Some guests will choose to play pool, ping pong, air hockey, or foosball in the expansive game room in the lower level of the barn, while others will choose a book, board game, puzzle or video from our collection for all ages.

Cook out on our gas grill, sip on a drink, then gather around the fire pit for an evening of smore's, star gazing, and story telling

About Rob and Gretchen Dejter

We are the new owners of this property which was previously called Fishing Creek Farm. We are excited to continue to provide a comfortable and tranquil spot for your time away while adding a swimming pool for your enjoyment. The property is called Sailor's Retreat, because we love sailing on the waterways of Maryland ourselves and look forward to our time at this beautiful spot.

Rob and Gretchen Dejter purchased this house in 2016

Why Rob and Gretchen Dejter chose Eastern Shore

Sailor's Retreat is down a winding country road, and tucked away on a serene creek, but five minutes away are all of the things you need: a Walmart, cinemas, and restaurants. Be sure to check out Emily's produce stand. The pies and doughnuts are outstanding!

Idyllic

  • 5 of 5

My family recently stayed in this home with some friends. We have a family of six (kids ages 13, 11, 9, and 5), and our friends have 2 children. We had plenty of space and thoroughly enjoyed all the natural light and great open living space. There is complete privacy at the home. The kids spent most of their time outdoors: kayaking, swimming, exploring, playing baseball, and utilizing the game room in the barn. The linens are top notch (both the towels and the sheets/comforters). The owners were very communicative throughout the entire process. It is a well-made home, and every supply you could think of is there. We had an epic easter-egg hunt! My son woke up this morning wishing we could stay longer. This is a gem of a home, and we highly recommend staying here if you'd like some R&R.

Water, water and more water! The views alone are worth the trip!

  • 5 of 5

The reviews of Sailor's Retreat are spot on. You step out of the back door and the water greets you--it is so close! We took advantage of all of the amenities on the property, and there are lots! My wife and I even found ourselves waking up before the kids to enjoy the sunrise with our coffee. We just loved it!

No Winter Blues Here!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I wanted to escape the winter doldrums, and we could not be more pleased with our choice of 'Sailor's Retreat.' The owners were so helpful and provided us information on local restaurants and sites. We had a wonderful time exploring Cambridge and nearby Easton. We took a daily walk along the paths surrounding the property and had afternoon coffee by the fire pit. The kids stayed entertained with a picturesque barn full of toys. Smores over the fire pit looking out onto the water is a memory we will all cherish!

Breathtaking oasis on the bay and we WILL be back!

  • 5 of 5

Words cannot adequately describe the beauty of this house and property. From the iconic red barn and willows to the expansive views of the bay, I found myself waking up at the crack of dawn so I could sip coffee and watch the sun rise over the water. My husband, family and I enjoyed long walks on the beautiful property and we took the paddle boat, paddle boards and kayaks out for a few spins. Relaxing and quality family time was the name of the game for us and this home provided exactly what we needed. The open concept also enabled our big family to have long social dinners and game nights during our stay and the coziness of the fire just elevated our experience. I cannot say enough about this house. We will be back!
