Overview

About the property

Feel the stresses of your daily life melt away as you roll down the quarter mile driveway running past rich eastern shore farmland and a 100 year old sycamore tree. When you spot the big red barn and swaying willows, you know you've arrived. Come unwind in style in a beautifully restored stone home with all of the modern amenities on 4 acres. When you step through the front door, you will be greeted by a panoramic view of Fishing Creek through a full expanse of floor to ceiling windows. Fall and winter guests will want to snuggle up next to the cozy stone gas fireplace and heated ceramic tile floors and a warm cup of cocoa and watch blue heron glide over the water. Spring and Summer guests will especially enjoy the evening breeze out on the screened in porch with vaulted wooden ceilings and ceiling fan. The great room encompasses a beautiful modern kitchen, custom cherry dining island, large family style dinner table and enough comfy couch seating for your whole group.

There are 2 bedrooms and one large bathroom on the ground level. The Chesapeake Room has a queen bed and large walk-in closet. The Choptank Room features two full-sized beds and a day-bed with trundle where you may want to house all of the kids so they can watch their own shows, movies, or play video games within earshot of the Great Room.

Upstairs you'll find wonderful cherry wood floors as you make your way to two large complete suites with full baths, walk-in closets, and doors that close to the hallway. The Captain's Quarters has a King-sized bed. The Pineapple Room, has a Queen size bed with a full-sized futon. Between the suites is a full laundry room.

For those seeking outdoor adventure, there is plenty to do near or on the water. Sunbathe, fish or crab off of the large dock. Launch one of our kayaks, paddle boards, paddle boat, or your own water craft from the gently sloped boat ramp. Area boat, jet ski, or bicycle rental is available from local vendors.

Beat the heat of summer in our new 16x32 swimming pool nestled next to the barn, featuring a wide tanning shelf with umbrella.

Play volleyball, badminton, croquet, cornhole, or your favorite outdoor activity on the large open field in the side yard. Rainy days are not a problem. Some guests will choose to play pool, ping pong, air hockey, or foosball in the expansive game room in the lower level of the barn, while others will choose a book, board game, puzzle or video from our collection for all ages.

Cook out on our gas grill, sip on a drink, then gather around the fire pit for an evening of smore's, star gazing, and story telling. Fire wood supplied.

About Rob and Gretchen Dejter

We consider ourselves blessed to be able to share this lovely spot with guests for the second year. We are excited to continue to provide a comfortable and tranquil spot for your time away. The property is called Sailor's Retreat, because we love sailing on the waterways of Maryland ourselves and look forward to our time in this beautiful part of the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Rob and Gretchen Dejter purchased this house in 2016

Why Rob and Gretchen Dejter chose Eastern Shore

Sailor's Retreat is down a winding country road, and tucked away on a serene creek, but five minutes away are all of the things you need: a Walmart, cinemas, and restaurants. Be sure to check out Emily's produce stand. The baked goods and local produce are outstanding! Make sure to stop at the Bay Country Bakery for doughnuts too!

Idyllic

  • 5 of 5

My family recently stayed in this home with some friends. We have a family of six (kids ages 13, 11, 9, and 5), and our friends have 2 children. We had plenty of space and thoroughly enjoyed all the natural light and great open living space. There is complete privacy at the home. The kids spent most of their time outdoors: kayaking, swimming, exploring, playing baseball, and utilizing the game room in the barn. The linens are top notch (both the towels and the sheets/comforters). The owners were very communicative throughout the entire process. It is a well-made home, and every supply you could think of is there. We had an epic easter-egg hunt! My son woke up this morning wishing we could stay longer. This is a gem of a home, and we highly recommend staying here if you'd like some R&R.

Wonderful 4 generation vacation!

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough good things about the house and its owners. They were friendly and quick to respond prior to our trip. The house was well equipped with everything we needed as well as notes regarding drinking water/additional fridges/etc to make sure we were enjoying all aspects of the home. The home itself is beautiful and has a living area equipped to have the whole family spend time together. The barn has an awesome bar area, fridge, lifejackets, crab traps, and games. The home is private, although 2 other homes are nearby, fields and fences make this a peaceful retreat. Ultimately this house provided us a private, comfortable retreat for our family, with plenty of information regarding surrounding areas to keep anyone entertained (that wasn't happy spending their day by the pool).

**Also if anyone has guests with mobility issues, 2 bedrooms are on the first floor and require no stairs throughout your stay.

Owner's Response: Hi Kelly, Thank you so much for the speedy and positive review. We are really pleased that you had such a terrific week with your family. Thank you too for mentioning that the house is good for folks with mobility issues. It really is a big plus that there are no steps into the house from the front, and only one step down in the back. For us "older" people, it is nice to have everything we need on the first level! Gretchen

Beautiful setting for a wonderful family vacation.

  • 5 of 5

Our Family of 10, including 4 grandchildren had a wonderful week at this beautiful home. There was something for everyone. Kayaking, paddle boarding and the paddle boat kept us entertained. The pool was great for afternoon relaxing. The barn has enough games for a rainy day. The house was extremely clean and stocked with everything we needed . Books of every type. Lots of nice extras. No WiFi proved to be a non-issue. Hope to return next year.
