Terrific villa and location
We had high expectations for Villa Minos having looked at the pictures and read the reviews. We were not disappointed! We are a family of four, with two children aged 14 and 12, and we all had a fabulous holiday. The view from the villa is simply stunning day and night. The pool is a good size and got very well used. The villa is modern and very clean and was just the right size for us. It is well equipped and had everything we needed. The location is superb. Very quiet and away from it all yet easily accessible on foot to Elounda. Loads of fantastic places to eat pretty much on the doorstep. The villa and pool were both cleaned and bedding changed regularly throughout our stay. Really lovely and interesting area. Plenty to do and see - we didn’t do as much as we had intended to do however because we were enjoying chilling out in the lovely villa! Organisation via Andrew was very straightforward and Rose greeted us on arrival and was very helpful throughout our stay. All in all a great holiday - we didn’t want to leave! We would have no hesitation in recommending Villa Minos.
Fantastic villa, stunning scenery, overall experience 10/10
Our trip to villa Minos was one we’ll never forget. My girlfriend and I (she’s now my fiancé but more on that shortly) went away with another couple (we are all 26-28yrs old) and we had the best holiday and stay at villa Minos.
The first thing to mention is the pictuares on this site absolutely do not do this villa justice. There’s more space than we imagined. The kitchen is practical and useful. The bedrooms are very comfy with plenty of space, but most of all the bathrooms are very modern, marble, and importantly... clean. We weren’t 100% sure what to expect from seeing the villa online, but knew it had a pool, was close to a small sandy beach and walking distance to Elounda which was good enough for us.
But honestly, the villa is amazing. Greatly exceeded our expectations. There’s a lovely space down the bottom of the garden for BBQs and drinks under a pergula. The pool is a fine size for cooling down and dipping, but isn’t massive if you’re looking to play games in, but suited us just fine.
The scenery and views from the villa are truly stunning. To wake up, spend the day, watch the sun go down looking out over the sea, the mountains beyond, and the town of elounda hustling and bustling below we really loved.
Elounda also had far more going for it than we oringally expected. Plenty of restaurants (we tried many of them and not one bad meal), quite a few bars and places for drinks. Again a very pretty scenic little marina but plenty big enough to keep us entertained for two weeks.
We also hired a boat from Minos boats nearby for the day which was a highlight of the holiday. We visited the water park which is only 45 mins away. So plenty to keep you entertained.
Andrew and his team, (Rose,Janet) did everything they could to make our stay pleasant, enjoyable and smooth so a massive thanks to you all!
It really was the perfect holiday and as much as I’d like to not recommend the villa (so we can return easily without it being booked up) I Simply cannot say a bad word.
You will see some reviews mention “the hill”, the villa is up a very steep hill at the top of Mavrikiano. The hill is walkable and we enjoyed as a bit of exercise each day, but it is steep.
Elounda will always hold special memories as I proposed to my girlfriend out there. We will certainly be returning to this place at some point in the future.
Thanks once again from 4 very happy holidaymakers.
Villa Minos great accommodation
We arrived late at night so let ourselves in via key safe not a problem. Rose the housekeeper left a welcome note and some very welcome provisions beer, wine, cheese, bread etc very nice thank you. The villa itself was really well proportioned for four guests.Upstairs there are two air conditioned bedrooms both with nice balconies overlooking the pool area and panoramic views to die for over the Gulf of Mirabello and Elounda, both bedrooms have comfortable beds, mountains of storage space and separate shower rooms.
Downstairs is open plan and consisted of a small well equipped kitchen, and a good size dinning area and a lounge. Apart from sleeping we spent very little time indoors because of the wonderful pool/patio area we had wall to wall sunshine from start to finish (and this is mid September) the pool was warm day and night "marvelous". The villa is at the top of very steep road but that's the price you pay for the views. A car although not essential would be a must if you are doing a lot of grocery shopping. About 100 yards from the villa there is a Bar and two Tavernas all very good With as many Tavernas, beautiful seafood restaurants and supermarkets as you could wish for at the bottom of the hill about 250 yards. If you can tear yourselves away from the villa the beach is very nice with various activities if you feel the need.
Our visit was enhanced by an exciting trip to Mochos in the mountains for a traditional Cretan night (Wednesday) and a most interesting trip by boat to Spinalonga not to be missed. We found local people very friendly and welcoming.
For a bit shade I think a parasol would be nice and a possible upgrade to a gas barbecue as we could not find charcoal anywhere. A visitors book would be good as it usually gives you an idea of things to do and not to do..
Overall Villa Minos is fantastic and I would recommend anyone thinking of holidaying in the Elounda area to give this Villa a lot of thought.
Thank you for taking the trouble to write such a lovely review and we are so pleased that you enjoyed the Villa and area so much.
We think your suggestion of a gas barbeque is a good idea and will get one for next year, also a guest book which we hadn't thought of before. We are afraid that parasols tend to get blown away as the cooling breeze can be quite strong at times, which I think may have happened to the latest one, so we have built Pergolas on the two garden levels which give quite a lot of shade as the sun moves around during the day. Thank you once again for your kind review and maybe we can look forward to you staying with us another time?
A lovely villa in a great location.
We had a fantastic holiday staying at the Villa Minos. The villa was very modern and well equipped with everything you would need for your stay. It was also immaculate and bed linen and towels were changed twice a week. As we arrived very late we were told by Rose where key was and obtained it without any problems. Rose had also left us some water, milk and juice in the fridge, which was very welcome.. The pool was a bit bigger than we expected and you could swim a few strokes to each side or just relax on the lilo, which we all loved to do during our stay. We also enjoyed the views, especially at night, looking over the town of Elounda was beautiful. In the town there were lots of restaurants to choose from. Olios was our favourite as they catered very well for two vegetarians. We would definitely recommend this villa and hope one day we can return.
Thank you for taking the time to let us know that you enjoyed staying in our Villa in Elounda, Rose and Fred take a great pride in making sure that everything is clean and well presented for all our guests. Yes we were struck with the amazing views and the short walking distance of local restaurants when we first saw the villa.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Elounda as one of our returning guests.
We had an amazing two weeks at Villa Minos, Rose was at the Villa waiting for us on arrival which was a really nice touch and she continued to look after us throughout the holiday. It was our first time in Elounda and it's a special place, very chilled out and relaxed. Where the Villa is situated is conveniently on the doorstep of the best two Taverna's in Elounda! The view is stunning from the Villa, it takes your breath away, thank you Andrew-we will be back!
Thank you for such a lovely review of our Villa and of Elounda, we also love the area as do all our guests when they stay with us. Rose will appreciate your kind comments as both she and Fred take great pride in looking after the Villa and all the guests for us.
We look forward to welcoming you back one day soon as one of our many returning guests.
Great little villa. Terrace and pool are excellent - with sunny spots and shady spots, and views to the sea are from everywhere.
Villa is very new and so in excellent condition, together with TV and DVD (plays english DVDs) and aircon for the two bedrooms.
Management is very good - the owner is quick to respond to requests, and the housekeeper, Rose, meets you at the site etc.
Loads of choice for tavernas etc nearby.
If you are staying for a week and don't want to explore too far, then best value is a taxi from the airport (owner can recommend a good value firm) - as you can easily walk to local facilities. If staying for two weeks, and more likely to explore further , then better off getting a hire car.
Whilst the particulars say that you are in a village next to Elounda, if you hand't been told this you would just assume that you are on the outskirts of Elounda. Its no more than a 10-15 minute stroll along the seafront to get to the centre of town.
All in all - excellent. And would certainly book again.
Thank you Simon for such a great review, both Rose and Fred who look after the Villa and ourselves, try really hard to make your stay as comfortable and trouble free as possible, so it is always nice to hear from our guests that they loved the area and the villa and are thinking of returning in the future, just as many of our previous guests have done. Once again thank you for staying with us. Andrew
Situated on the exclusive Gulf of Mirabello - approximately an hour from Heraklion airport - the Villa is in an elevated position overlooking the Mirabello bay. It is set in its own quiet grounds with a 300 metre walk to a choice of Tavernas, supermarket and the blue flag beaches and sea. On your doorstep are the two best known resorts on Crete - Agios Nikolaos, a lively harbour town with an excellent variety of sophisticated shops and waterside cafes, together with Elounda - a 10 minute walk away along the front,- a pretty fishing village and harbour, boasting some of the world's most famous five star hotels, alongside romantic waterside tavernas and restaurants. Beyond Elounda is the unspolt fishing village and beaches of Plaka, from where you can take a boat trip to the famous fortress island of Spinalonga, once inhabited by the Venetians in the 15th century and later used as a leper colony up to 1957. For Golfers there is a championship course about 40 minutes away at Hersonissos
